GENERAL

Due to a section of the track being unsuitable for racing near the 1500m, Racing Queensland with the confirmation from QRIC Stewards and Club Officials altered the starting distance for Race 6 to 1400m.

SUNSHINYDAY – Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey Adam Sewell stated that in his opinion SUNSHINYDAY did not handle the step up in class and distance in today’s event.

RACE 2: GREAT NORTHERN QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP (1050m)

Stewards inquired into the circumstances where TAYLOR’S RAGE was checked rounding the turn near the 900m. After taking evidence from apprentice Brooke Johnson (EMBEZZLES), jockeys Les Tilley (TENNYSON MISS), Raul Silvera Olivera (NEXT LEGACY) and Hannah Richardson (TAYLOR’S RAGE), it was established that EMBEZZLES crossed in advance of TENNYSON MISS, when clear to do so. TENNYSON MISS then stepped inwards from that runner marginally, which resulted in NEXT LEGACY shifting in and away, with jockey Silvera Olivera taking immediate action. TAYLOR’S RAGE, which was racing to the inside of NEXT LEGACY, was then checked as a consequence. As stewards could not attribute blame fully to one rider to a degree that warranted a charge being issued, the circumstances were noted and reported as such.

I'M NOT GREY – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted inwards, bumping the hind quarters of EMBEZZLES.

NEXT LEGACY – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race examination revealed the filly to have lost its near hind shoe in running.

Apprentice Chloe Lowe pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, 12 times in total. Apprentice Lowe’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, with stewards ordering the suspension to commence midnight the 13th August 2025 and to concluding midnight 21st August 2025, following a suspension apprentice Lowe’s incurred at the Toowoomba meeting on Monday 28th July. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration the QRIC whip penalty template.

BRAVE COWBOY BILL – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

BULL DIMPLE RUM – Jumped away awkwardly and then bounded for a number of strides shortly afterwards, losing significant ground as a result.

GRAND DE LAGO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having competed at Middlemount on the 26th of July 2025 and was cleared to start. Was held up for clear racing room in the home straight until a point near the 300m.

RACE 5: FRENCHVILLE SPORTS CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400m)

BOOM CRUSHER – Was carried wider by FINE AND RARE which laid outwards near the 200m. Was unable to obtain clear racing room in the home straight until a point near the 200m.

ANGE – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey Jackson Murphy stated that ANGE was inclined to overrace after having blinkers applied for the first time, and after being trapped wide throughout, the filly tired noticeably over the final stages. Jockey Murphy further added that filly was not fluent in its action over the final stages, therefore he elected to ease the mount out over the concluding stages. Trainer Jess Kuhn was advised to report to stewards on the filly’s condition in the subsequent days.

When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice Chloe Lowe stated that GENERAL HIPPO did not appreciate the tempo set throughout the early stages and despite her efforts, the gelding would have benefitted restraining and finding cover instead of overracing.

FREEMAN – Was held up for clear racing room in the home straight until a point near the 300m. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice Bailey Wheeler stated that he was slightly disappointed in the gelding’s overall performance and in hindsight, may have been better served racing in a more forward position.

THE LAST SAGA – Bumped by PREPOTENT which shifted inwards shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey Sean Cormack advised that THE LAST SAGA failed to show early speed in the event, however travelled well towards the rear of the field. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, in particular obtaining a significant lead in the middle stages, apprentice Brooke Johnson stated that after beginning from the wide barrier, it was her intention to attempt to be situated on pace near the lead, however MASALI RAFFA commenced to overrace quite fiercely in the early stages and was quite difficult to restrain. Apprentice Johnson added that once her mount commenced to overrace, instead of being trapped wide she elected to push forward hoping her mount would settle and race in a comfortable position.
