RACE 5: RTCQ OFFICE TECHNOLOGY MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)

Correct weight for this race was delayed when trainer of second placed Tim Cook (THREE TEES) lodged a protest against the winner BOOM CRUSHER (Sean Cormack) alleging interference over the final 50m. After considering submissions from the riders and trainers of both horses, it was established that leaving the 100m BOOM CRUSHER shifted outwards marginally while at the same time THREE TEES was inclined to lay inwards under pressure and the two runners may have brushed slightly near the 50m. Despite the narrow margin of a nose between the two runners at the finish, stewards could not be satisfied that THREE TEES suffered any interference that would warrant changing the placings, therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.

BOOM CRUSHER – Trainer Darryl Johnston was reprimanded under AR106(1) for presenting the gelding without a tongue tie which is part of its declared gear. Stewards were mindful of the trainer’s excellent record in relation to this type of matter for the past 10 years.

When considering the submissions of the trainer stewards permitted the gear adjustment to transpire. Trainer Vale was subsequently fined $200 under AR206(2) for failing to correctly notify gear to be worn by MOSCOW CITY. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

Apprentice Orr advised that he was instructed to ride neutrally in the early stages, however soon after the start he was concerned that he may be trapped wide so therefore elected to progress forward. Apprentice Orr further added that once he progressed forward, he applied minimal pressure to his mount and did not intend to lead however due to the lack of genuine speed to his inside, he was able to find the lead comfortably.
