Jockey Butler stated that after beginning well, he was able to obtain a comfortable position on pace behind the leader in the early stages. Jockey Butler added that at a point near the 400m, his mount commenced to become awkward in its action, and passing this point, his mount failed to let down. Jockey Butler further added that over the final 100m, after becoming concerned with his mounts action, he elected to ease and not place HIGHGROUND under any more pressure. Stewards noted jockey Butler’s comments. HIGHGROUND underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be lame in the right-foreleg. Trainer M Oates was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
