SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Rockhampton 29 January 2026
Race 2 – GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE (1100 Metres)
Stewards inquired into the circumstances where WAYNO appeared to be checked lost ground rounding the turn near the 900m. After taking evidence from apprentice McKenzie Apel (WAYNO) and jockey Adam Sewell (SUMICH) it was established that racing towards the 900m turn SUMICH had showed good speed when wide on the track and commenced to cross towards the inside and when doing so crossed in advance of WAYNO when not quite sufficiently clear, resulting in that runner having to be restrained. When assessing the matter stewards issued a reprimand under the provisions of AR131(a) against the license of jockey Adam Sewell for carelessly crossing when insufficiently clear.

GENERAL

Stewards approved the following overweights:

Race 5.         Warwick Satherley (1/2kg)
Race 6.         Warwick Satherley (1/2kg)
Race 7.         Ryan Wiggins (1kg)

RACE 4: HOTONDO HOMES QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1050 Metres)

Stewards inquired into the reasons for a barrier blanket being applied to ANTHROPOLOGY when it was not listed as part of the horse’s gear. After taking evidence from jockey Ryan Wiggins, starter, Robert Burnell and assistance starter Chase Greenhill it was established that jockey Wiggins questioned the application of the barrier blanket and assistant starter Greenhill incorrectly referred to the Starters Report for the wrong race and had erred by applying the gear. The starter and assistant were advised to ensure that the process adopted for applying gear behind barriers is structured to ensure that this type of error does not occur. Due to the circumstance of ANTHROPOLOGY finishing second in the race, no action could be taken in relation to the horse being declared a non-starter in accordance with the provisions of AR204.
