GENERAL
Due to persistent showers after the original penetrometer reading being taken at 6am, the track was downgraded to a Soft 6 at 7.20am.
Due to apprentice Maddie Mankelow being unable to attend due to injury, apprentice McKenzie Apel was the approved rider replacement for DEFERENTIAL in race 5 and OHH ERROL in race 6.

RACE 1: GREAT NORTHERN BM60 HANDICAP (1817 M)
GARINION RIGH – Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining the lead near the 1500m. When asked to comment on the seemingly poor performance in comparison to its recent race starts, jockey Aiden Holt stated that apart from the weight impost, he was unable to offer a tangible reason for the disappointing performance. GARINION RICH underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a poor post-race recovery with the mare displaying signs of the thumbs.
BOLD BLAZE – Was inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
REPLACE THE ACE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining the lead approaching the 1200m. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
GENERAL WOLFFE – Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice Amy Graham pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, 12 times in total. Apprentice Graham’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, with the suspension commencing midnight 24th February 2026 and to conclude midnight 4th March 2026. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration the QRIC whip penalty guidelines, her guilty plea and clear record.
KAYLEEN'S PROFIT (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages.
MR GREY – Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed MR GREY to be lame in the right foreleg. Trainer Warwick Satherley was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
RACE 2: TAB BM65 HANDICAP (1400 M)
MAIKROW – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start by RETAINER which shifted outwards. Overraced in the early and middle stages.
RETAINER – Shifted outwards shortly after the start and bumped MAIKROW.
GREY IMPACT – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly throughout.
PEAKING TOM – Stewards permitted jockey Raul Silvera Olivera to ride PEAKING TOM 1kg over the declared weight. Trainer Jess Kuhn was fined $100 under the provisions of AR227(a) for negligently failing to request the 1kg overweight for jockey Silvera Olivera. Slow into stride.
STAR CHANCE – Raced keenly in the early stages and was inclined to hang in when rounding the turn near the 900m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 3: MILNER CONSTRUCTIONS BM60 HANDICAP (1050 M)
LA PETITE MAISON – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
COBBO – Raced keenly throughout. Jockey Raul Silvera Olivera was fined $100 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) for his use of his whip on two consecutive occasions prior to the 100m.
DETERMINATION – Began awkwardly and bumped with ELECTRIC BRAE at the start. Near the 900m, was briefly tightened and raced in restricted room when LA PETITE MAISON shifted in marginally when not fully clear. Jockey Ryan Wiggins was reminded to exercise greater care in similar circumstances with stewards noting that his mount was inclined to lay inwards, despite his efforts, at the point of the incident.
ELECTRIC BRAE – Bumped with DETERMINATION at the start. Was disappointed for a run between COBBO and CRYPTIC PRISM near the 250m, having to check to avoid heels for some distance thereafter and was then held up for clear running until a point passing the 100m.
HARD TO DISMISS – Inclined to lay outwards when placed under pressure on occasion in the home straight.
RACE 4: RED LION HOTEL MAIDEN HANDICAP (QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE FOR 2&3YO ONLY) (1200 M)
BOLD CHANGE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight, and then again briefly passing the 200m. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
PROVISEUR (NZ) – Trainer Kerrod Smyth was fined $100 under LR67(1) for failing to declare apprentice Tom Orr as the rider for PROVISEUR (NZ) by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
AUTUMN GALE – Bumped by SUMICH shortly after the start when that runner shifted outwards. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and passing the 800m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LEICA FLAMINGO for a number of strides. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
SUMICH – Shifted outwards shortly after the start, bumping AUTUMN GALE. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice McKenzie Apel stated that SUMICH failed to travel comfortably throughout the event and in her opinion, the gelding may not have handled today’s softer track conditions. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities
ANTHROPOLOGY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey Ron Stewart stated that upon jumping his saddle had slipped, which placed him at some disadvantage and may have attributed to his mount over racing in the early stages. Jockey Stewart added that despite the aforementioned circumstances, the mare, in his opinion, was disappointing overall. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
BADLIFEDECISION – Bumped on jumping by WHENHARRY METELSIE which shifted outwards.
LUNA READY – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
WHENHARRY METELSIE – Shifted outwards on jumping, bumping BADLIFEDECISION.
RACE 5: MASOT CLASS 4 PLATE (1200 M)
DEFERENTIAL – Apprentice McKenzie Apel was the approved rider replacement for apprentice Maddie Mankelow (injured). Was hampered on jumping by HENRY’S BLADE (NZ), which was carried inwards, and NICCONORI which was carried outwards. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice McKenzie Apel dropped her whip passing the 400m.
HENRY'S BLADE (NZ) – Blundered on jumping and soon after the start, was impeded by SILVER HAMMER, which shifted inwards, and was then carried inwards hampering DEFERENTIAL. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
KING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping, impeding and carrying NICCONORI outwards.
OUR TURN NOW (NZ) – Began awkwardly and blundered shortly after the start.
SADDLES – Slow to begin. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
NICCONORI – Impeded at the start by KING SPIRIT which shifted outwards and was then carried out by that runner, hampering DEFERENTIAL. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure over the final 250m.
SILVER HAMMER – Shifted inwards at the start, impeding and carrying HENRY’S BLADE (NZ) inwards. Laid outwards when placed under pressure over the final 300m. Apprentice Tahlia Fenlon was fined $300 under the provisions of AR132(6)(b) for raising her arm above shoulder height when applying the whip on a number of occasions in the home straight.
ZIPITALIST – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards.
MOISSANITE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not started in a race for almost 6-months and was cleared to start.
RACE 6: ARC BM55 HANDICAP (1400 M)
VICTORY'S GHOST – Commenced to overrace approaching the 1200m and continued to overrace for some distance thereafter.
OHH ERROL – Apprentice McKenzie Apel was the approved rider replacement for apprentice Maddie Mankelow (injured). Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1000m. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
DEVOTED DEPUTY – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages.
OUR HEART THROB – Laid inwards when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
