GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 2 – Jockey Sean Cormack +1kg
Race 2 – Jockey Warwick Satherley +0.5kg
Race 3 – Jockey Warwick Satherley +0.5kg
Race 7 – Jockey Raul Silvera Olivera +1kg
 
The following runners underwent pre-race veterinary inspections after competing in the preceding days or returning from an extended period of time and were cleared to start:
Race 3 – NOTFORTHEMONEY
Race 4 – BO BO BEWARE, GENERAL WOLFFE
Race 5 – SUBSIDISE
Race 6 – SMART MISSION
Race 7 – HOU LONG GWAI, BADLIFEDECISION
 
Trainer Zoe Hohn was reprimanded under the provisions of LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider for BADLIFEDECISION in race 7 by the prescribed time. In adopting this approach stewards were mindful that Ms Hohn had not had a breach of this rule in 10 years.
 
Prior to the running of race one following a track inspection stewards upgraded the track to a soft 5 at 11:58am.
 
Some publications reflected the minimum riding weight for apprentice M Apel as 53kg. This weight change was made yesterday and Miss Apel was required to ride at her declared minimum weight of 54kg as per the close of acceptances for today’s meeting.
 
 
 
RACE 1: TAB QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1100M
 
COAL SEAM – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Raced greenly under pressure over the final 400m. Ducked in under pressure near the 50m.
 
BARBARIAN KING – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
DUB STEPPING – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with WASABI BARBIE. Raced keenly during the early stages. When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance trainer T Button stated that he was disappointed with the performance and could offer no explanation to the performance. He further added that it would be his intention to conduct blood tests on the gelding and undertook to report to stewards any findings.
 
WASABI BARBIE – Bumped on jumping when DUB STEPPING shifted out and RATTLESNAKEWHISKEY shifted in. Jockey Chris McIver, when questioned advised that his mount travelled well during the run, however, was disappointing when asked for an effort leaving the 500m. The rider added that the filly will continue to derive benefit from further race experience. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J McConachy expressed his disappointment with the performance of WASABI BARBIE and advised the filly had pulled up big in condition and it was his intention to have blood tests conducted and advise of any anomalies. Post-race samples were collected from WASABI BARBIE.
 
MISSILE SPIN – Very fractious to load into the barriers. Trainer T Bourke was advised that a warning has been advised that a warning has been placed against the barrier loading manners of the gelding. Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages and had to be restrained from the heels of MISSILE BABY near the 900m. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
RATTLESNAKEWHISKEY – Near the 900m when attempting to obtain cover commenced to over race and had to be restrained from the heels of WASABI BARBI.
 
MISSILE BABY – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CRAIGLEA MONNIE – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly and inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 400m. Had to alter course near the 50m when COAL SEAM ducked in under pressure.
 
 
 
RACE 2: GET YOUR CYS CALCUTTA TICKETS OPEN HANDICAP 1100 M
 
MASTER MONTARO – Raced keen in the early stages. Inclined to lay out under pressure in the initial stages of the home straight and then inclined to lay out over the final 300m.
 
TIZSO FAB – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
KING SPIRIT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
 
PRIDE OF VENUS – Began awkwardly and bumped with KAREEM. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 300m.
 
KAREEM – Bumped on jumping and was slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SARAQAEL – Trainer / Jockey Warwick Satherley advised that the gelding would be ridden more conservatively by comparison to recent starts. Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
PRETTY SLICK – Began awkwardly.
 
 
 
RACE  3: MP SECURITY QTIS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M
 
PROVISEUR (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
SAN JUAN – Began awkwardly and knuckled soon after the start. Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight and then laid in under pressure over the final 400m.
 
SILVERTAIL – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HEROIC TALENT – Raced in restricted room for a distance near the 650m when racing to the inside of NOTFORTHEMONEY. Brushed with NOTFORTHEMONEY near the 300m. Jockey R Silvera Olivera was reprimanded under AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out fully to the finish in determining penalty stewards were mindful that jockey Olivera’s actions had no tangible effect on the finishing positions and he had not been spoken to previously under this rule.
 
LEICA FLAMINGO – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
NOTFORTHEMONEY – Over raced in the early stages. Over raced and awkwardly placed at the heels of WHENHARRY METELSIE and was restrained near the 650m resulting in HEROIC TALENT racing in restricted room for a number of strides. Brushed with HEROIC TALENT near the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SEND THE MONEY – Over raced in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice A Graham was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on 9 occasions prior to the 100m and 10 times in total.
 
WHENHARRY METELSIE – Over raced in the early stages.
 
 
 
RACE  4: CYS WEEKEND 10-12 APRIL BM62 HANDICAP 1600 M
 
OUT OF ACES – Briefly inconvenienced near the 900m when KAYLEEN'S PROFIT (NZ) shifted in. Apprentice M Apel (KAYLEEN'S PROFIT (NZ) was advised to take greater care when shifting ground. 
 
BE BOB ALOOLA – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. Near the 150m switched in across the heels of KAYLEEN'S PROFIT (NZ) when that runner shifted out marginally when under pressure.
 
BO BO BEWARE – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GENERAL WOLFFE – Slow to begin. Had some difficulty on occasions in the home straight obtaining clear racing room until a point near the 250m. Hung in under pressure over the final 250m.
 
KAYLEEN'S PROFIT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
SPIRIT TALKER – Raced keenly in the middle stages. When questioned in relation to his mount leading, which is contrary to the usual racing pattern, jockey C McIver advised that he was instructed to attempt to be handy in the run if possible. The rider then added after jumping well and pressing forward initially he was able to settle comfortably in front and was not genuinely pressured. The rider further added that it had not been his intention to lead however the lack of genuine speed from other runners resulted in him adopting the tactic of leading.
 
 
RACE  5: JAMIE PARNELL PSYCHOLOGY CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1050 M
 
BETTA THAN PRESLEY – Began awkwardly. Bumped near the 100m when BETTA THAN PRESLEY shifted out. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
LUXOR PRINCE – Slow to begin.
 
SUBSIDISE – Began awkwardly. Over raced noticeably in the early stages. Apprentice A Graham advised that despite her desires she was unable to get her mount to settle in the run and as a consequence this proved detrimental to the finishing efforts of the mare. Trainer M Stephens advised that it is his intention to spell the mare after todays disappointing effort and SUBSIDISE may have not handled the quick back up from racing at Mackay on 19 March 2026. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
TENNER – Shifted out under pressure on a number of occasions in home straight resulting in the rider having to stop riding and straighten her mount several times. Shifted out and bumped with BETTA THAN PRESLEY near the 100m.
 
JUST LIKE ROSIE – Slow into stride.
 
 
 
RACE  6: SUPAGAS BM60 HANDICAP 1300 M
 
PREPOTENT – Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
 
AMBERINGER – Began awkwardly and blundered, shifting in and bumping with SUJEED. Bumped with SMART MISSION on a number of occasions near the 400m when attempting a run to the inside of that runner. Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight until a point near the 200m. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
ELECTRIC BRAE – Raced wide in the early stages. Briefly impeded and had to alter course approaching the 100m when SUJEED shifted out under pressure.
 
STORM FORCE TEN – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with SUJEED.
 
LEASE – Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.
 
SMART MISSION – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Bumped by AMBERINGER on a number of occasions near the 400m when that runner attempted to shift out into clear running. Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.
 
MOISSANITE – Jockey A Sewell advised that he did not intend to settle so far forward, however after being trapped wide he allowed his mount to progress forwards to race outside the leader near the 850m. Jockey A Sewell was reprimanded under AR132(6)(c) for applying the whip to his mount when out of contention.
 
SUJEED – Bumped by AMBERINGER at the start when that runner shifted in and was then bumped by STORM FORCE TEN which shifted out. Held up for clear racing room until a point leaving the 400m. Laid out under pressure over the final 300m.
 
HARD TO DISMISS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
PENSEUR POSITIF – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Laid in under pressure over the final 300m. Apprentice G Semmens was reprimanded under AR132(6)(c) for applying the whip to his mount when out of contention.
 
 
 
RACE  7: MELISSA-GAYE DESIGNS 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1400 M
 
Stewards inquired into the circumstances where BADLIFEDECISION lost ground and appeared to be checked nearing the 1200m. After considering evidence from riders A Holt (CASH ARTIST), A Sewell (VILLANDRY), apprentice S Tierney (BADLIFEDECISION) and R Silvera Olivera (CARRARA KING) it was established that VILLANDRY shifted inwards marginally and placed BADLIFEDECISION in tight confines, simultaneously CASH ARTIST shifted in and away from CARRARA KING when that runner advanced forward, resulting in both VILLANDRY and DADLIFEDECISION racing in restricted room and ultimately BADLIFEDECISION being checked. As stewards were unable to attribute sufficient blame to any rider or riders to the degree of culpability that warranted a charge and as such the circumstances of the incident were noted. In making this determination stewards were mindful that the available vision, head on the start, was of limited assistance to fully determine the position of the runners involved.
 
HOU LONG GWAI – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
CASH ARTIST – Fractious in the barriers, lunged forwards and burst through the front of the gates. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Trainer D Johnston was advised that a warning would be placed against the barrier manners of the gelding. Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
OUR HEART THROB – Shifted in on jumping bumping with BOOM CRUSSHER. Had difficulty obtaining clear running until a point near the 300m.
 
BOOM CRUSHER – Began awkwardly and bumped with OUR HEART THROB.
 
I'M NOT GREY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VILLANDRY – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NATIVE BEE – When questioned in relation to the performance jockey W Satherley state that during the early stages he had to pressure the gelding in the early and middle stages in order to stay in touch with the field, he further added that when asked for an effort in the early stages of the home straight NATIVE BEE failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer D Rideout was advised that a warning would be placed on NATIVE BEE’s record due to being uncompetitive.
 
SADDLES – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Laid in under pressure once obtaining clear racing room approaching the 400m. Trainer R Thompson, when questioned regarding the apparent improved performance, stated that following its most recent start the gelding was showing signs of a virus and tying up, has been treated accordingly and responded well. The trainer further stated that a freshen up between runs was also beneficial.
 
BADLIFEDECISION – Began awkwardly.
 
SIDESHOW FRANKIE – Raced keen in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
