SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
1st May 2026 - MACKAY
Stewards acceded to a request from jockey Tasha Chambers to alter the commencement date for a 7 day suspension of license to reflect the suspension commencing midnight 8th May 2026 and to conclude midnight 15th May 2026.
GENERAL
A number of runners accepted to compete at today’s meeting and all runners in race 7, the Sherrin Rentals 2026 The Archer, were subject to hair and blood sampling in the days preceding the meeting.
Due to this meeting being rescheduled from Sunday 3 May 2026, late rider changes were approved as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 2: Tasha Chambers (TARONG) +0.5kg
Race 6: Ashley Butler (OBLIGATED) +1kg, Daniel Moor (DREAM START) +1kg
Stewards approved jockey Daniel Moor to ride 1kg over the allotted weight due to the circumstances resulting in the re-scheduling of the meeting.
RACE 1:RAY WHITE ROCKHAMPTON RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1100m
QUARRY MAN (NZ) – Shifted outwards at the start and bumped with DARTH INVADER.
IDHANA – Raced keenly in the early stages.
DARTH INVADER – Shifted inwards at the start and bumped with QUARRY MAN (NZ).
TEN CARAT LUCY – Raced keenly in the early stages and approaching the 800m when racing in restricted room, shifted outwards bumping MARELLITY, carrying that runner wider. When questioned in relation to today’s performance, jockey Ashley Butler advised that the mare over raced during the early and middle stages and when asked to improve, TEN CARAT LUCY failed to respond to his initial efforts, however had finished off well over the final stages. Jockey Butler added that he advised trainer Clinton Taylor that in his opinion experimenting with gear changes and racing distances may be beneficial to have TEN CARAT LUCY perform at its optimum. Trainer Taylor confirmed jockey Butler’s comments and stated that he would consider the options available.
MARELLITY – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of DARTH INVADER before being bumped and carried wider on the track near the 800m by TEN CARAT LUCY when that runner shifted outwards. Apprentice Nikki Olzard reported that MARELLITY’s tendency to over race throughout the event resulted in the filly being difficult to settle.
RACE 2:ELDERS COMMERCIAL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1100m
HELLO PUNTERS – After being loaded in the barriers became fractious and reared, becoming cast for a short period. Was subsequently removed and underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Laid inwards when placed under pressure near the 300m and bumped with NEXT LEGACY. Trainer Maddysen Sears was advised that HELLO PUNTERS would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate by way of official trial or jump-out to the stewards’ satisfaction.
SWITCH THE STARS – Began awkwardly.
NEXT LEGACY – Bumped by TARONG which shifted outwards at the start. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 400m, hang inwards, despite the efforts of its rider, and placed TARONG in restricted room for a number of strides.
TARONG – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards bumping NEXT LEGACY. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 400m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides when NEXT LEGECY hung inwards, despite the efforts of its rider, and GYPSY’S DAUGHTER shifted outwards.
GYPSY'S DAUGHTER – Began very awkwardly and threw its head in the air. Commenced to race keenly passing the 800m. Raced greenly in the home straight. Approaching the 400m, shifted outwards and placed TARONG in restricted room for a number of strides. Laid outwards under pressure near the 200m before being corrected by its rider.
RACE 3:DLV FINANCE MAIDEN PLATE (QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE 2&3YO ONLY) 1200m
AGNAR – Inclined to lay inwards under pressure over the final stages. Apprentice Tahlia Fenlon was spoken to advisedly regarding the height of her arm when using the whip. Apprentice Tahlia Fenlon was found guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out fully to the end of the race by ceasing her efforts one stride immediately prior to the finish line, which in the opinion of stewards prevented her mount from finishing in a closer position (2nd). Apprentice Fenlon’s license to ride in races was suspended for three weeks, with the suspension to commence midnight 14th May 2026 and to conclude midnight 4th June 2026. In determining the penalty, stewards took into account the QRIC penalty guidelines, apprentice Fenlon’s not guilty plea and her recent poor record under the rule.
PROVISEUR (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
GEM MAKER – Slow to begin.
WATCHFULWILDERNESS – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
CHECK ONE TWO – Began awkwardly and dipped shortly after the start.
SPORT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
BELVEDERE MISS – Began awkwardly.
RACE 4:MILNE BROS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1300m
LONERGY – Bumped with BRAZEN SAILOR at the start.
SUJEED – Began awkwardly. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
WILDSPITZE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid outwards when placed under pressure over the final 300m.
BETTER THAN WORDS – Leaving the 1100m, bumped with THE LAST SAGA and was carried outwards marginally. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
THE LAST SAGA – Leaving the 1100m, bumped with BETTER THAN WORDS. Inclined to shift outwards when placed under pressure over the final 150m.
BRAZEN SAILOR – Began awkwardly and bumped with LONERGY at the start.
LUXOR PRINCE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages and near the 1050m, shifted inwards of its own accord and contacted the inside running rail.
SPELLMASTER (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
RACE 5:FRASERS LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1100m
DON PEDRO – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 400m, shifted outwards carrying NORTHUMBRIA wider on the track and as a consequence RED BEAUTY, which was endeavoring to obtain a run between NORTHUMBRIA and DARK GLEAM, having to alter course outwards to maintain clear running. Apprentice Chloe Lowe was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. Inclined to hang inwards under pressure over the concluding stages.
NORTHUMBRIA – Leaving the 400m, carried wider by DON PEDRO which shifted outwards.
DARK GLEAM – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards, bumping with RED BEAUTY. Inconvenienced near the 30m when RED BEAUTY shifted inwards. Jockey Daniel Stackhouse was advised to exercise greater care when allowing his mounts to shift ground in future.
SAILOR'S RUM – Shifted inwards at the start, bumping RED BEAUTY and became unbalanced for a number of strides shortly afterwards.
ANSWERING – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride as a result.
RED BEAUTY – Buffeted between DARK GLEAM, which shifted outwards and SAILOR’S RUM which shifted inwards at the start. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight before shifting wider near the 400m.
RACE 6:BENTLEYS (QLD) PTY LTD 2026 THE FITZROY OPEN HANDICAP - ***WEIGHTS RAISED 0.5*** 1300m
LIVING FREE – Shifted inwards near the 800m resulting in REAL KEY having to check. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
DEMON AWARD – Commenced to over race in the early stages and near the 900m had to restrain to avoid the heels of LETMELETGO. Was inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight and was held up for clear running until a point passing the 300m.
REAL KEY – Near the 800m, had to steady from the heels of LIVING FREE when that runner shifted inwards when not fully clear to do so, and as a consequence DREAM SMART had to check from its heels. Apprentice Bella Youngberry was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Tightened for racing room near the 150m when LIBERTY STEPS shifted outwards under hard riding. Jockey Dylan Turner was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
LIBERTY STEPS – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride as a result. Shifted outwards under pressure near the 150m, tightening REAL KEY for a number of strides.
DOUBTING EYE – Slow to begin.
LETMELETGO – Raced wide in the early stages.
DREAM SMART – Near the 800m, had to steady from the heels of REAL KEY, which was inconvenienced as a consequence of LIVING FREE shifting inwards.
BELTHIL – Commenced to over race in the early stages and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DEMON AWARD. Held up in the home straight until a point near the 400m and commenced to hang inwards when placed under pressure thereafter. Jockey Angela Jones reported to stewards upon returning to scale that BELTHIL raced green throughout and had proved difficult to ride. Trainer Billy Healey stated that given the postponement of the originally set date for today’s meeting, BELTHIL may have raced fresh as a consequence.
KATHY'S BEAU – Proved difficult to load. Trainer Clinton Taylor was advised that a warning would be placed on KATHY’S BEAU’s record for its barrier loading manners. Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
SCRUB CHAIN – Slow to begin.
ODEGAARD – Raced wide throughout.
RACE 7:SHERRIN RENTALS 2026 THE ARCHER 1300m
HERE TO SHOCK (NZ) – Leaving the 250m, was tightened and had to steady to avoid the heels of BOOMTOWN BOSS which shifted inwards.
ROTHFIRE – Raced wide in the early stages. Leaving the 250m, had to check and lose its rightful running when BOOMTOWN BOSS shifted inwards under riding when insufficiently clear. Jockey Angela Jones pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding in that she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting inwards when not clear of both HERE TO SHOCK (NZ) and ROTHFIRE. Jockey Jones’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days, with the suspension commencing midnight 9th May 2026 and to conclude midnight 22nd May 2026. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the QRIC Careless Riding Template, jockey Jones’ guilty plea, previous record, and the status of the race.
GIVEMETHEBEATBOYS (IRE) – Near the 80m, briefly tightened for racing room before being eased and losing momentum when THE INFLICTOR shifted inwards for a stride before being immediately corrected by its rider.
ROCKRIBBED – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
YELLOW BRICK – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight.
THE INFLICTOR – Shifted inwards for a stride near the 80m, briefly tightening GIVEMETHEBEATBOYS (IRE) before being immediately corrected.
ANEMACORE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.
BOOMTOWN BOSS – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Leaving the 250m, commenced to shift inwards when not fully clear to do so under riding, resulting in HERE TO SHOCK (NZ) having to steady and continued to shift inwards further, checking ROTHFIRE which lost its rightful running. Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
BATTLEFIELD – Began awkwardly. Was required to alter course and shift outwards to maintain clear running leaving the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of heat stress.
CHERRY ROSE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a lead position near the 1050m. Laid outwards under pressure over the final stages when tiring.
RACE 8:PARADISE LAGOONS AMATEURS CUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1600m
MORE TROUBLE (NZ) – Bumped with PREPOTENT at the start.
SMART ACTION – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey Ryan Maloney was fined $500 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 12 times in total. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the QRIC whip penalty guidelines and jockey Maloney’s previous record which indicated no prior whip offences within the last six months. Stewards also noted that jockey Maloney applied his whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m on two separate occasions.
PULVERISER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and had to be restrained from the heels of PREPOTENT for a number of strides near the 1050m. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
INCA TRAIL – Shifted outwards at the start, bumping BAVARIAN LADY.
PREPOTENT – Bumped with MORE TROUBLE (NZ) at the start. Raced wide in the early stages.
BAVARIAN LADY – Bumped by INCA TRAIL which shifted outwards at the start and lost ground as a result.
