TORERO- Knuckled on jumping away, then failed to muster early speed losing valuable ground.
SPEEDING DRAGON- Stewards questioned Jockey J Geppert in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance. Jockey Geppert advised that the gelding began well and obtained its customary forward position, however when crossed by another runner near the 700m the gelding never travelled comfortably from that point and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary inspection failed to reveal any abnormalities.
FINAL CHAPTER- Steadied to avoid heels near the 700m and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
Race 7: MARANOA REGIONAL COUNCIL BENCHMARK 60 H’cap – 1640m
Prior to the declaration of correct Stewards considered an objection lodged by the connections of the 2nd placed MURPHY’S COAL DUST (T Williams) against ATEACES (L Tilley) being declared 1st, alleging inference in the home straight. Stewards after taking evidence from all relevant parties and after viewing the patrol films found that whilst ATEACES did shift in and brush MURPHY’S COAL DUST near the 150m, any interference suffered to MURPHY’S COAL DUST was minimal and did not exceed the 1 length margin between the runners at the conclusion of the event. Therefore Stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judge’s semaphored numbers.
SHAKES- Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail shortly after the start.
DOMINICO- Blundered on jumping away.
RED BERETTA- Raced wide throughout.
JANDY GIRL- Raced wide throughout.
ROCK ON IVY- On returning to scale Jockey Goltz reported that the mare never travelled comfortably during the event and in his opinion may not have been suited racing on the sand racing surface for the first time today.
Race 8: XXXX GOLD ROMA CUP OPEN H’cap – 1640m
MISHANI GLADIATOR- Stewards considered an application by Jockey J Geppert to be paid a riding fee and any prize money percentage earned by MISHANI GLADIATOR on the basis that he believed he had a confirmed engagement to ride the gelding when in fact Apprentice M Haley rode the horse. After taking evidence from Jockey Geppert and Trainer J Manzlemann, Stewards were unable to identify if in fact a confirmed engagement in the favour of Jockey Geppert had occurred, and therefore his request was denied.
Correct weight was delayed whilst Stewards questioned the riders in the event and the Starter Mr T Sheehan in relation the start of this race which saw PERFOMIA lose considerable ground and TINTS take no part in the race. The intention of Stewards was to determine if the Starter had correctly effected the start or if a false start had occurred. Upon questioning by Stewards Mr Sheehan advised that he had effected the start of the race and therefore in his view a false start had not occurred. After viewing the patrol films and taking evidence of the riders, Stewards satisfied that Mr Sheehan had in fact effected the start of the race and therefore a false start had not occurred. Stewards were then required to determine if PERFORMIA and TINTS were afforded a fair start and furthermore if PERFORMIA had gained any advantage at the start. After taking evidence in relation to this matter from the respective riders and viewing the patrol films, Stewards found that shortly prior to the start PERFORMIA reared high in the barriers making heavy contact with the front gates. A short time later start the start was effected and due to PERFORMIA having lunging forward, this resulted in the mare forcing its barrier to open marginally quicker than the remaining barriers. As it was evident that PERFORMIA actually lost ground at the start, Stewards were satisfied that it had not gained any advantage. Furthermore it was established that the mares own actions were the sole reason for it losing ground, and therefore PERFORMIA was declared a confirmed starter in the event. In relation to TINTS Jockey Evans advised Stewards that as a result of PERFORMIA, which was drawn alongside TINTS, rearing in the barriers, he was not completely settled in the saddle prior to the start. He added that when the barriers opened he in fact thought a false start had occurred and therefore immediately restrained TINTS out of the event. As Jockey Evans had incorrectly formed the view that a false start had occurred there were no grounds upon which Stewards could rule TINTS a non-runner and therefore it was deemed a confirmed starter and correct weight was declared.
BESEECH- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
A DEPENDANT- Raced wide throughout.
REAL FAVFULOUS- Over raced in the early stages of the event and had to checked of heels making the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion.
