GENERAL
 
Jockey G Steele did not ride at this meeting due to personal reasons. Rider replacements as per the Stewards Summary.
Jockey R Tilley was permitted by Stewards to ride 1.5kg above the allotted weight in Race 1- SHE MEANS BUSINESS due to no other rider being available.
Stewards permitted Appr O Kendall to replace Jockey G Steele on HARAMAIN due to no other rider being available.
Amended start time for Race 5 was 4.00pm due to impending storms in the vicinity.
 
Race 1: CLUB HOTEL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 2-Y-O &UP.
Handicap 1000 metres
 
AFROGINASOCK- began awkwardly and bumped SHE MEANS BUSINESS shortly after the start, the declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing the Trainer of AFROGINASOCK Mr M Kropp an opportunity to view the photo finish image. After viewing the photo Mr Kropp was satisfied of the margin and the Judges placings. Stewards subsequently declared correct weight.
 
CANDY DAWN- blundered on jumping, was then bumped by another runner.
 
RUNARD REDNUT- travelled wide after entering the home straight for the remainder of the event.
 
AS GOOD AS READY- Stewards questioned Trainer Mr C Smith regarding the seemingly improved performance of his horse. Mr Smith advised the gelding got lost during his last two (2) runs at Rockhampton and did pull up shin sore after the run on the 11th of January 2022, the gelding was then spelled and since returning to work has worked well and the stable thought he would go well and was expecting a forward showing today. Stewards noted Mr Smith’s explanation.
 
BEAN FORTUNATE- reared as the start was affected and lost ground.
 
CULTURAL ICON- began awkwardly and bumped CANDY DAWN shortly after the start. Travelled extremely wide over the concluding stages.
 
SHE MEANS BUSINESS- began awkwardly then was bumped by another runner shortly after the start. At the Scales area Jockey Tilley reported to Stewards that he had lost an iron shortly after the start, becoming unbalanced from the 950m then when he began to regain control the Mare was traveling at the rear of the field and uncompetitive from that point.
 
 
 
Race 2: HALL CHADWICK CLASS 3 PLATE
 
AT THE HELM- Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination of the horse due to the presence of blood in both nostrils when it returned to the mounting yard. This examination revealed the gelding had the presence of blood from both nostrils with no trauma apparent. Acting under AR 79 (4) the horse shall not without the permission of Stewards: be trained, exercised, or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of three months; and then only after a satisfactory of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward.
 
BOOM OR BUST- S MCGOVERN- travelled wide with no cover when entering the home straight for the remainder of the race.
 
LASCO- travelled wide with no cover for the majority
 
ORDESA- travelled wide with no cover for the majority of the event, was tailed off from the 800m point and raced disappointing from that point despite the efforts of the rider to improve.
 
 
 
Race 3: STATHAM CHEESMAN BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1000M
 
 
HANGRY- began awkwardly, lost some ground when approaching the 950m when inconvenienced by another runner and from that point travelled wide for the majority of the event, weakened over the concluding stages of the race.
 
STRALEX- Travelled extremely wide for the majority of the event.
 
BETTER BE GREAT- did jump out at the start and hampered HANGRY whose rider was forced to take hold for a short distance approaching the 950m point, travelled wide for the majority of the race.
 
GHETTO BOY- stewards were advised by Jockey C Rogers that her mount felt okay in running but weakened badly over the concluding stages of the event. Stewards noted her comments.
 
 
Race 4: MORGANS FINANCIAL ROMA PICNICS CUP BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M
 
 
FROZE- was slow to begin, travelled wide with no cover during the early and middle stages, began to improve into the race from the 400m point then travelled five (5) wide outside the leader from the 200m and finished off the race strongly over the final stages.
 
PURPLE CUP- slow to begin, travelled wide from the 800m.
 
BOOMSHAKE THE ROOM- slow to begin, was bumped by GEKKO shortly after the start which had jumped out.
 
GEKKO- began awkwardly when it jumped out and bumped another runner shortly after the start.
 
BLACK STREAM- became fractious in the barriers prior to the start, began awkwardly when it jumped out and the start and bumped RIPOVA.
 
RIPOVA- bumped by another runner shortly after the start, travelled wide during the middle stages of the event.
 
 
Race 5: PICKLES LADIES BRACELET OPEN Handicap 1200 metres
 
 
AMERICAN GENIUS- began awkwardly.
 
BRYNEICH- began awkwardly.
 
VERTICAL- slow to begin, raced wide for the majority.
 
BUZZER BEATER- travelled extremely wide after entering the home straight for the remainder of the race.
 
HOCKED- travelled wide for the majority of the event, raced disappointingly over the final stages, a post-race veterinary examination was ordered by Stewards due to a seemingly disappointing performance. This examination revealed lameness to the right foreleg of the gelding, Stewards spoke with Trainer C Smith he advised that the horse was soreness in the right foreleg and the gelding would now be retired. Stewards noted Mr Smith’s comments and advised him that a veterinary certificate would be required should the horse race again.
 
THE CARPENTER- Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr T Hall regarding a seemingly improved performance of the gelding today. Mr Hall advised Stewards that the run in Toowoomba may have looked disappointing, but he felt the horse was unlucky and he was happy with the run. The horse has continued to work well and does particularly race well when fresh. Mr Hall advised that he expected a forward showing today and was confident the gelding would race well. Stewards noted Mr Hall’s explanation.
