GENERAL
As Jockey S. Sweedman was unable to attend today’s meeting due to illness. Rider replacements were made as per the steward’s summary.
Apprentice S Bailey was the declared rider of VERY GRATEFUL (Race 3), and OAKFIELD BADGER (race 6) however withdrew her services prior to running for acceptable reasons. Changes were made as per the Stewards summary.
Approved overweight:
Race 6: OAKFIELD BADGER – C Taylor +1kg – No other suitable riders available.
RACE: 1 RABOBANK QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
The start of this race was delayed when SAMURAI WAND reared, fell and dislodged Apprentice K Barker in the mounting yard. SAMURAI WAND underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Apprentice Barker was also cleared of any injuries.
Upon arrival at the barriers TAMIEKA WARRIOR had presented with blood in mouth and subsequently scratched on Veterinary advice at 1:32pm. On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on TAMIEKA WARRIOR to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - MAFIOSA – 18c win, 15c place.
2nd – EXTRA HANDS – 24c place.
3rd – MRS VEE – 26c place.
Trainer W Baker was advised a veterinary clearance would be required for TAMIEKA WARRIOR prior to racing again.
This race was further delayed when SAMURAI WAND became fractious behind the barriers harmlessly dislodging Apprentice Baker. SAMURAI WAND was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 1:34pm. On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on SAMURAI WAND to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - MAFIOSA – 7c win, 7c place.
2nd – EXTRA HANDS – 11c place.
3rd – MRS VEE – 12c place.
Trainer W Baker was advised SAMURAI WAND would need to trail to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
EXTRA HANDS – Slow to muster early speed. Laid in when placed under pressure from the 200m to 100m.
DANCING TROFFEA - Near 1000m while racing keen hung out and raced very wide from that point on.
MRS VEE - Raced wide throughout.
RACE 2: STATHAM CHEESMAN BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1640 M
START STRUTTING – Race wide for the majority. Rider C Taylor reported the gelding failed to travel at any stage throughout the event.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer W Baker was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for being uncompetitive.
FIRE AND LIGHT – Slow to begin. Wide for the majority.
POCKET EIGHTS – Bumped on jumping.
SWITCH TO GO – Shifted out abruptly, bumping heavily with POCKET EIGHTS causing that runner to shift out and bump with TIME TO TESTIFY who was obliged to be eased and lost ground when crowded between POCKET EIGHTS and THE DARK SIDE racing to its outside.
PACKAGE - Wide for the majority.
TIME TO TESTIFY– Eased and lost ground shortly after the start when crowded between runners. Tailed off from the 500m. When questioned, rider App R O’Connell reported after losing ground at the start the gelding recovered well and made up ground, however his mount started to compound ground near the 600m and when placed under pressure did not respond to his riding and elected not to place the gelding under pressure from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer W Baker was advised the gelding would need to trail to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
SAINT MARTIN – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
THE DARK SIDE – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after jumping becoming temporarily unbalanced. Tailed off from the 500m. When questioned rider M Savva reported her mount raced keen early, and when placed under pressure failed to respond to her riding and elected not to place the gelding under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Traner R Hay was advised the gelding would need to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
BOLD BEAUTY – Began fairly. Raced wide for the majority.
RACE 3: ANGLICAN CHURCH GRAMMAR SCHOOL (CHURCHIE) BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000 M
IL TORO D'ORO – Slow to muster early speed. A post-race veterinary examination no obvious abnormalities.
HEY PUMPKIN – Laid in over the concluding stages.
QUEEN OF SSORTS - Raced wide for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the right foreleg. Trainer L Hatch was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
MISS RAPIDE – Bumped and lost ground on jumping. Raced wide for the majority

SAY WHEN SUTTY – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide for the majority.
RACE 4: ELIZABETH FERRIER MEMORIAL / AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY CHOICE CLASS 3 PLATE 900 M
A LOT OF BOOTY– Began awkward and bumped.
THUNDERING SOUL – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
TOSMIAN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
LUNESSA - Raced wide for the majority.
I'M NELSON – When questioned, Apprentice H Saunders felt her mount resented the kickback and did not travel comfortably throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
BONTOBEWILD – Rider Apprentice R O’Connell could offer nothing to explain the disappointing performance adding that the mare failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
RACE 5: HALL CHADWICK BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 M
VELOCE METEOR – Reared as the gates opened losing ground.
TRAPEZE LEGEND – Apprentice R O’Connell was treated by QAS officers for a blood nose after being struck by a rock from the kickback and was cleared to continue his riding engagements.
GOBBLED – Slow to begin.
STECARA - Raced wide for the majority.
BARCLAY'S BANK – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
ELIZABASS - Raced wide for the majority.
KOBE ASCOT – Slow to begin.
DOITLIKEMAXWELL - Began awkward and bumped. Raced wide for the majority.
RACE 6: JOHN FRITH MEMORIAL / MORGANS BRACELET OPEN HANDICAP 1200 M
KA BLING - Bumped with MISTREY EMPEROR passing the 150m.
ROLL UP – When questioned, Apprentice R O’Connell could offer nothing to explain the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
MISTREY EMPEROR – Raced keen early and middle stages. Bumped with KA BLING passing the 150m.
VILLADEN (NZ) – Bumped passing the 100m.
ZENA BOY– Eased down in the home straight. When questioned, Apprentice I Jessop felt the gelding did not appreciate the track surface, never travelled comfortably and elected not to place pressure on the gelding in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer G Schrader was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding.
OAKFIELD BADGER – Passing the 100m bumped with VILLADEN when shifting out.
LIP SIP SUK - Began awkwardly and slow to begin.
