RACE 4:ROMA VET / PRIMO FOODS CLASS 1 PLATE          1000 M

Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight, Rider P. Hamblin (REVANTAS, 2nd place) viewed the Stewards patrol footage before lodging an objection against apprentice E. Simsir (FULLY SUBSCRIBED, 1st place) alleging interference near the 500m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage it was established that at a point near the 600m REVANTAS raced in restricted room to the inside of FULLY SUBSCRIBED, which had shifted in marginally. It was further established that at a point near the 500m, REVANTAS raced in restricted room between FULLY SUBSCRIBED, which had stepped in marginally, before being corrected by its rider and LAID BACK BON which had stepped out slightly before being corrected by its rider. As a result of these minor shifts, rider P. Hamblin raced in restricted room before being checked passing the 500m and losing ground. After considering the evidence, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any interference suffered by REVANTAS near the 500m was solely attributed to FULLY SUBSCRIBED along with having regard for how both horses finished the race off and the margin, dismissed the objection and declared Correct Weight on the Judges numbers.

At a subsequent inquiry both apprentice E. Simsir and apprentice K. Barker were reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for shifting ground and advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances.

BOULEVARD BOY - Shortly after the start bumped with SOCCEREW. Approaching the 500m bumped with STARTLING CAT and LAID BACK BON.

DESTINY GUNGHO – Late scratching at 1:32pm, Stewards orders. After apprentice H. Saunders was legged onto the gelding, DESTINY GUNGHO bucked and dislodged H. Saunders in the mounting yard. Then galloped riderless before jumping out of the mounting yard towards the stalls before being recaptured. A veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cuts attributed to contacting the fence after it jumped over the mounting yard gate. Apprentice H. Saunders was examined by QAS, where she was passed fit to fulfill her remaining engagements. DESTINY GUNGHO was warned for its pre race behavior.
Prior to correct weight Stewards ordered that all bets placed prior to 1:32pm the following deductions ought apply:

1st FULLY SUBSCRIBED 3c w, 4c p
2nd REVANTAS 4c p
3rd BOULEVARD BOY 4c

REVANTAS – Approaching the 600m raced in restricted room to the inside of FULLY SUBSCRIBED. Near the 500m had to be checked when in restricted room between FULLY SUBSCRIBED (E. Simsir), which had shifted in marginally and LAID BACK BON (K. Barker) which had shifted out marginally.

STARTLING CAT – Began awkwardly, shifting out and bumping SOCCEREW.

LAID BACK BON – Approaching the 500m bumped with BOULEVARD BOY.

SWEET ABOUT ME – Lost ground at the start. When questioned as to why SWEET ABOUT ME had began in a manner that made it lose ground at the start. Apprentice V. Soulsby explained that she may have been slightly on the mare’s mouth as the gates opened and SWEET ABOUT ME overreacted to her hold and as a result lost ground at the start. Stewards noted her comments.

SOCCEREW - Shortly after the start was bumped by STARTLING CAT, which had began awkwardly.

RACE 5:CHURCHIE SCHOOL / BRISBANE BOYS COLLEGE / EVEREST BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP        900 M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 mins due to the protest in the previous race.

Correct Weight was delayed significantly to allow Stewards to ascertain the reasons for apprentice A. Graham being dislodged at the start. Primarily to determine if LUNAR EIGHT was denied a fair start. Due to a technical error, the head on footage took several minutes to be available for Stewards to review. Once reviewed it was determined that A. Graham was dislodged due to a racing incident and as a result declared Correct Weight.

LUNAR EIGHT – Shortly after the start was heavily bumped and became extremely unbalanced due to TOY STORY shifting out abruptly and as a result dislodging apprentice A. Graham. Galloped riderless for the remainer of the event. A. Graham was immediately attended to by QAS who passed her fit to resume riding.

INTENSE STEEL – Slow into stride. Raced wide without cover throughout.

TOY STORY - Knuckled on jumping away. Shortly after the start bucked and then shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with LUNAR EIGHT becoming unbalanced. Rider D. Evans reported that as TOY STORY commenced awkwardly, his saddle shifted back and then TOY STORY bucked on one occasion before shifting out underneath him. He added that as his saddle was shifted, it placed him at a slight disadvantage throughout the event. Stewards inquired into the incident which resulted in apprentice A. Graham being dislodged. After reviewing the available patrol films as well as gathering evidence from D. Evans and A. Graham it was deemed that A. Graham had been dislodged due to the abrupt shift and heavy contact made by TOY STORY which had bucked. Stewards advised trainer V. Jones that TOY STORY is now suspended and must officially trial to the satisfaction of Steward due to bucking.

Following the running of this race, although A. Graham was passed fit by QAS, Stewards determined on the available footage that due to the manner in which A. Graham was dislodged and the manner in which her head struck the ground deemed her unsuitable to continue riding and stood her down for her remaining ride. Stewards directed A. Graham to obtain a medical clearance prior to resuming work and race riding due to this incident.

RACE 6:IPSWICH GRAMMAR SCHOOL / PACIFIC WEST QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP        1640 M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 mins due to the previous delays in Race 4 and Race 5.

NITROGEN – Laid in under pressure in the straight.

BUGDEN – Laid in passing the winning post on the first occasion. Apprentice H. Saunders reported that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, when asked for an effort near the 500m, weakened considerably and was disappointing. A stable representative was at a loss to explain the performance and reported to Stewards that the gelding had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and the stable expected a forward showing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards advised the stable to report any significant findings on return to the stable which could explain the performance.
PROCLAIMER – Disappointed for a narrow run near the 400m between JEROME and RANGI TOA.

RANGI TOA (NZ) – Slow to begin.

KANTAI – Deemed a late scratching at 2:29pm due to there being no available rider. Prior to Correct Weight Stewards ordered that all bets placed prior to 2:29pm the following deductions ought apply:

1st KRIACTION 14c w, 14c p
2nd IL TOTO D’ORO 15c p
3rd PACKAGE 11c p
