She indicated she had been instructed to ride the horse back in the field, as is its customary racing pattern, and attempt to secure cover as the gelding has a tendency to race greenly. Miss Eilbeck added she was unable to obtain cover and as such the horse commenced to hang out after passing the 1400m and continued to do so until passing the 500m. ONE UP then commenced to hang in and continued to do so in the home straight. She also stated that when a run between runners commenced to close passing the 200m, she was obliged to alter course and shift wider on the track to secure clear running. Apprentice Eilbeck further stated that, in her opinion, if the horse had raced more tractably it would have finished closer to the winner. Trainer Mr M. Mair indicated that it would be his intention to trial the horse prior to its next race start. A warning was placed on the horse’s racing manners.
KING ARCHER – Jockey G. Geran was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty stewards took into account this was the first time the cushion track had been used for a considerable period of time and also jockey Geran’s good record.
