GENERAL
As T. Wolfgram, T. Bell and L. Williams were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards' Summary Sheet.
As A. Best was stood down from riding engagements at the Gold Coast yesterday, he was examined by the club’s doctor and cleared to fulfil riding engagements today.

Race 1: Swim Between The Flags Maiden H'cap – 1200m
I DOUBT I CAN – Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of R. Fradd as the rider of the horse. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
OMITTANCE – Slow to begin.
BASILISK – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages.
ALL TOO REAL – Bumped by another runner near the 200m.
BE THE MAGIC – Inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight.
PURE FETISH – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
ST CORVARA – Finished tailed off. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be making a mild respiratory noise. Trainer P.Duff advised the horse had previously been scoped for this condition, however following today’s performance will be further examined and will advise stewards should anything significant come to his attention and he would review the horse’s current racing preparation.
TARTING ME UP – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be severely distressed. Trainer A. Hayward advised stewards that the gelding would now be retired from racing. However he was advised that a full veterinary clearance would be required should TARTING ME UP return to racing.
Following this race the track rating was downgraded to Soft 7.
Race 2: Dicky Beach Nippers QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1400m
RAYS ARE LUCKY – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in the back half of the field if circumstances permit. After beginning well, the horse raced in a forward position 3 wide.
GOTYACOVERED – Rider M. Cahill reported that his saddle shifted back shortly after the start, placing him in difficulties throughout the race.
ON DEMAND – Overraced in the early stages.
GOWAN BRAE – Steadied to avoid heels near the 200m.
BROOKTON ICE – Rider R. McMahon was reprimanded for shifting out near the 200m, causing another horse to be steadied. Stewards advised R. McMahon he must be fully clear prior to shifting ground.
SWEET CRACKER – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 3: Your Home Consulting Maiden Plate – 1600m
MISS TRISTY – Correct weight was delayed when T. Harrison, rider of the 2nd placegetter, wished to view the stewards’ patrol video over the concluding stages to ascertain if she had grounds to lodge an objection against Olympic Queen being declared the winner. Subsequently jockey Harrison declined to proceed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s semaphored placings. Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages.
OLYMPIC QUEEN – Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race.
WHAKATOI – Held up and unable to improve from the 600m until leaving the 400m and then shifted out to obtain clear running, making contact with another horse on a number of occasions. Rider J. Byrne was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. Shifted in under pressure leaving the 100m and bumped another runner.
NOTHING VENTURED – Bumped on a number of occasions near the 400m and became unbalanced.
PINK CHAPERONE – Bumped by another runner leaving the 100m.
Race 4: Davies Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Class 3 H'cap – 1600m
UMASAGA – Stewards acceded to a request from trainer C. Anderson for this horse to be declared a late scratching at 1.17 pm due to the downgrade of the track.
ATTITUDINAL MISS – Slow into stride. Lost its near fore plate in running.
CRAMMING – Slow into stride.
MAKOSSA – Raced wide in the early stages. Finished tailed off. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
CLEVER BOY – Shifted in near the 900m, making contact with the running rail, then shifted out bumping another runner.
DARYL’S RUN – Bumped near the 900m causing the rider to become unbalanced.
QUIET COLLECT – Stewards questioned apprentice L. Tarrant regarding the riding tactics adopted today as the mare’s normal racing pattern was to race back in the field. He stated that his mount began well and was positioned forward, and while it was not his intention to lead today, the mare travelled comfortably in that position. His explanation was noted.
Race 5: M & S Reynolds (Kitchen & Cupboards) Class 1 H'cap – 1400m
MELATTE – Slow to begin.
KARIEGA – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
BARNTOWN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
GAS BURNER – Raced wide throughout.
BREWING – Raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Mullins It Class 1 H'cap – 1000m
The start of this race was delayed to allow an interstate race to be concluded.
WHAT A SENSATION – As M. McGillivray was unable to claim down to his riding weight, B. Appo was substituted as the rider of the mare. He was subsequently fined the sum of $100. Bumped near the 200m. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
OH CANDY – Tightened at start. Rider J. Hull reported his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the race.
GOLD BUTTONS – Tightened at start, losing ground. Unable to obtain clear running leaving the 500m until a point after passing the 100m. Shifted out when attempting to obtain clear running and bumped another runner near the 200m.
BOER – Tightened at start.
CHANGE OF LUCK – Tightened at start, losing ground.
COOL JES – Tightened at start. Steadied when racing in restricted room after passing the winning post. Lost its near fore plate in running.
KERRICAIT – Steadied near the 300m when racing in restricted room.
Race 7: Caloundra Towing/Tow N Ride Trays H'cap – 1000m
TOUGH TAIMZ - Trainer K. Kemp was fined $100 for failing to advise a rider by the required time.
TAMBO’S JEWEL – Slow to begin. Trainer S. Kendrick was questioned regarding the circumstances of the mare wearing bar plates, which was not officially notified in its gear. He stated that due to the mare having hoof problems it had raced in bar plates during its previous preparation, and, in his opinion, was part of its normal racing gear. The explanation was noted.
MISS MEGA HERZ – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice E. Ljung advised that whilst her mount was slow to begin it was never comfortable in today’s track conditions. Trainer P. Sexton agreed with her assessment and the explanation was noted.
Race 8: Dicky Beach Supporters Club Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
ZEEVA – Kicked behind the barriers and subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4.45 pm. All monies invested on Zeeva were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

ANGELS CROWN – Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped.
APACHE SOX – Bumped soon after the start and shifted out and bumped again.
IT’S A THRILLA – Bumped soon after the start. When questioned into the performance, rider B. Stewart was unable to offer any tangible explanation other than the gelding worked hard in the lead when challenged by another runner, however was disappointed with the performance. Trainer G. Taylor was most disappointed with today’s performance after expecting the horse to race well, and gave an undertaking to advises stewards of any abnormality that may come to light in the days following which may have had a bearing on today’s performance.
FATHER SHADY – Rider L. Tarrant attempted to shift out from around the heels of ANGELS CROWN where there was insufficient room between that horse and IT’S A THRILLA and was obliged to shift back in, clipping the heels of ANGELS CROWN and blundering. L. Tarrant was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
HIDDEN ROSE – Trainer K. Anderson was questioned regarding the improved performance in winning today. She reported that she extended the mare out to 1600m for its previous start and, in her opinion, failed to run out the distance. Mrs Anderson added she freshened the mare up and dropped it back in distance today, adding that the mare appreciated today’s track conditions. Stewards noted the explanation.
WAVERLEY HEIGHTS – Inquiry into the disappointing performance. Rider A. Badger stated that after beginning well the gelding was reluctant to race truly in the early and middle stages and as a result of this lost ground despite her urgings and then found the line fairly. She added that the horse raced in this manner at its previous start. Stewards noted the explanation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
