As this was not able to be done due to the horse being fractious, stewards ordered that it be declared a late scratching at 1.12 pm. All monies invested on Bentles were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:

7 cents in the dollar for the Win #1
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #13

Consideration was given to a protest lodged by B. Grylls, rider of the 2nd placegetter More Soccer, against Bearskin being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 800m and again from the 200m to the finish. On the evidence, stewards found that crowding which occurred near the 800m was not fully attributable to Bearskin shifting in slightly at that point, and further they were of the view that after establishing running to the outside of Bearskin near the 150m, Bearskin did shift out in the run to the finish, however stewards were of the view that any interference suffered by More Soccer as a result of Bearskin shifting out did not exceed the 1¼ lengths margin between the 2 horses and therefore the protest on both grounds of interference was dismissed.

YABA DABL DOOYA – Jumped away awkwardly, almost dislodging its rider.

JETINTOIT – Rider L. Cassidy reported his mount began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly and then had to be checked off the heels of another runner shortly after the start.
