Race 1: MANSELL BULK HAULAGE PTY LTD MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M

SUNFAST – Began awkwardly. D. Browne was questioned regarding his riding tactics. He indicated that it had been his pre-race instructions to ride forward, however despite the gelding beginning awkwardly and making heavy contact with the horses to its outside, he attempted to ride forward, however was unable to muster sufficient speed and after travelling a short distance elected to shift closer to the fence near the rear of the field. He added that when approaching the home turn the gelding overraced and he was obliged to steady from heels on two occasions, near the 600m and again near the 500m. He added that the gelding was, however, able to obtain clear running in the home straight and in his opinion finished the race off well. Trainer M. Brosnan confirmed the instructions were to go forward and indicated that it would be her intention to continue to instruct riders to settle the horse in the forward half of the field.

CELESTIAL GODDESS – Stewards questioned trainer A. Jones in relation to the horse’s seemingly improved performance. He indicated that as per the stewards’ report from the horse’s last start, the mare travelled quite wide in the field and had a very difficult run, however despite this he was very pleased with its finishing effort and as such expected a forward showing in today’s event.

MORE SAVINGS – Rider obliged to stop riding and alter course to secure clear running shortly after passing the 400m.

MONSCHAPELLE – Inconvenienced on jumping away.

NAVILLUS REXTED – Raced wide without cover.

CALL ME BILLY – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 2: CELLAR MAINTENANCE AUSTRALIA MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400M

ALL CASHED UP – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Lost its near fore plate in running. Shifted in near the 1300m, made contact with another runner and became unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer T. McCarthy indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell.

INTEGRITY – Forced to race considerably wide. Inconvenienced after passing the 400m when another runner shifted out to secure clear running.

RED ‘N’ BROWN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

WARNING SIGNAL – Bumped heavily on jumping away. Became unbalanced after being bumped by another runner leaving the 1300m. Raced wide throughout.

LEXIE EMILIA – Raced wide throughout.

ALPINTORO – Raced three wide without cover.

DUCHESS MOLLY – Jumped away awkwardly, made heavy contact with another runner and lost ground. Held up in the home straight and was obliged to alter course on a number of occasions prior to the 100m.

UNIQUE PEARL – Slow to begin.

LUV HUNTER – Attempted to buck soon after the start and was retired from the race. Trainer M. Bailey was advised that the horse must compete in two official barrier trials prior to being permitted to start again.

Race 3: FUJI XEROX BUSINESS CENTRE SUNSHINE COAST CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M

UMASAGA – Momentarily held up after passing the 400m and was obliged to alter course to secure clear running.

SCOTTY BE GOTTI – Bounded in the air as the start was effected. C. Schmidt was asked to comment on the performance. She indicated that after beginning awkwardly and taking up a position in the second half of the field, she was forced to niggle the horse throughout the early stages in order to hold its position and when asked for an effort in the home straight the gelding, in her opinion, only finished the race off fairly. She indicated that she recommended to connections to step the horse up over 1600m and experiment with the addition of blinkers to the horse’s gear. Trainer S. Lee agreed with Ms Schmidt’s comments and gave an undertaking that he would advise stewards of anything that came to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.

ANGELS CROWN – When questioned regarding her tactics, R. Payne indicated that she had not intended to set such a fast tempo in the event, however the mare resented being restrained when she attempted to settle the horse after leaving the 900m and again approaching the 700m. She added that the trainer would now look to dropping the horse back in distance to attempt to allow the horse to settle.

SPEED TO BERN – Jockey G. Cooksley reported that the saddle slipped back shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

HITMAN HARRY – Began awkwardly, made heavy contact with its outside barrier gate and lost ground.

Race 4: BATTERY WISE SUNSHINE COAST QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1300M

ASHGROVIAN – Stewards questioned rider L. Tarrant and trainer G. Burns regarding the tactics of leading in today’s event. L. Tarrant indicated that he had been instructed to ride the horse back in the field from its wide alley, however after travelling 200m he elected to ride forward as he was unable to secure a position closer to the fence and was obliged to continue to lead passing the 800m. Trainer G. Burns confirmed the instructions.

FORTINI – Slow to begin.

ASTHECOURTCOMMANDS – Jumped away awkwardly. Inconvenienced leaving the 900m, had to be steadied and then was obliged to race wide without cover.

BRADBURY’S GOLD – Inconvenienced approaching the 800m and obliged to steady to avoid heels.

BOWLER LANE – Commenced to overrace when the pace slackened leaving the 900m and shifted out, inconveniencing another runner, and was then obliged to race wide without cover. Trainer L. Tipper was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration inside the off hind cannon.

STONECAST – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1200m, when racing in restricted room to the inside of RED CLAW, became unbalanced and lost significant ground.

Following his ride in this race D. Browne was stood down for medical reasons and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 5: PLACEMAT CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed due to apprentice M. McGillivray being late in weighing out, resulting in his mount being late arriving at the barriers. Apprentice McGillivray was fined $200.

The start was further delayed when LAMBOURN had to be resaddled and when SEPT DE COEURS proved difficult to load. Trainer S. Kendrick’s representative was advised that SEPT DE COEURS would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.

TWISTED MOUNTAIN – Tightened for room on jumping away.

SEPT DE COEURS – Raced wide throughout. D. Griffin reported that after being fractious in the barriers the horse did not begin well and was therefore further back in the field than he would have liked, and after suffering minor interference near the 700m did not run on as anticipated. He felt that this could be attributed to being ridden further back in the field along with the horse’s overall temperament during the event.

SINE TIMORE – Held up from the 400m until near the 250m.

BIRDIE BLITZ – Tightened for room on jumping away.

TURVANNA – Raced wide throughout.

YAHUSHA – Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: REED PROPERTY GROUP CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1800M

Due to the paramedics attending to a patron, the start of this race was rescheduled to 3.40 pm.

At the request of its rider, ENDOY was inspected by the veterinary surgeon who found the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Acting on this advice, stewards declared ENDOY a late scratching at 3.38 pm. Trainer D. Heinemann was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for ENDOY prior to its next start. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ENDOY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

OUTSTRIP – Held up rounding the home turn and until leaving the 300m.

ONE LUCKY SHEILA – Finished tailed off. S. Fawke indicated that he had been instructed to ride in a forward position with cover if possible, however when caught wide passing the 1600m he elected to allow the mare to assume the lead and felt that the horse set a steady tempo throughout the race and in his view was disappointing when asked for an effort in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Connections indicated that the horse may be sent for a spell.

Race 7: QFFS & PRIME FOODSERVICE MEATS BM75 H’CAP – 1400M

EYE WINSOME – Raced wide without cover.

ROYAL CONSORT – Jumped away awkwardly. Had difficulty securing clear running from the 250m until approaching the 100m.

DUGAN – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. R. Fradd reported that he had been instructed to ride the horse in the second half of the field and in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate being restrained and overraced in the early stages. He added that the horse may have pulled up short in its action. Trainer N. McCall indicated that in light of today’s performance the horse would now be retired from racing.

Race 8: TENSENS GROUP PTY LTD CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

Trainer T. Thomas was reprimanded for presenting NIK NIK to race without a bit lifter. Stewards permitted the horse to race without this gear.

DETER – Connections advised that from the wide barrier it will be the intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position. The horse was ridden accordingly.

THE CATHOLIC GIRL – Raced wide throughout.

TANZANITE – L. Tarrant was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on TANZANITE in that he did not ride in a forward position, which is in contrast to the horse’s previous racing pattern. He indicated that after beginning very awkwardly and making heavy contact with the barrier partition, he was obliged to take up a position in the second half of the field. Held up over the final 100m and went to the line without being fully tested.

NIK NIK – Slow to begin.
