From SCTC, 8.2.15 – Race 6.

Trainer R. Heathcote was fined the sum of $100 for failing to effect a gear change to nose roll off for Kona Breeze.

Race 1: Yalumba Wines Maiden Plate – 1200m

FEELIN’ THE HEAT – Jumped away awkwardly. Improved onto heels of another runner and had to be checked near the 500m. Had difficulty securing clear running from the early stages of the home straight until approaching the 200m.

MCDINGA – Slow to begin. Weakened badly from the 500m and finished at the tail of the field. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. A swab sample was taken. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the gelding prior to its next race start.

LEGALLY COOL – Inconvenienced by another runner near the 200m.

ACTIVE ROCK – Raced 3 wide throughout.

EMERGE – When asked to comment on the performance, rider J. Byrne stated that it had been his intention to race in a forward position and obtained a position outside the lead during the early stages. He was satisfied with the pace set in the middle stages, however from leaving the 500m he was of the view that the mare commenced to weaken and was very disappointing in the run to the line. He could offer no explanation for this. Trainer S. Kendrick indicated he would have blood tests and veterinary examinations performance and would report to the stewards regarding those findings, and would give consideration to the immediate racing future of Emerge.
- Subsequent to this event Trainer S. Kendrick reported Emerge had been given 10 day break and has been statisfied with the horses work since returning.

SCRAP COPPER – Lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 2: Coast BMW Maiden H'cap – 1600m

GROBBELAAR – Slightly slow to begin and crowded for room. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance of the gelding, rider D. Browne indicated that he was obliged to take up a trailing position at the tail of the field and after travelling well throughout the event shifted wider upon entering the home straight and felt that the horse let down strongly, however weakened from the 200m and proved disappointing. Stable representative Miss M. Sharpe indicated that, in her opinion, the horse may not have handled the week back up from its last start in addition to the step up to 1800m for the first time. She also advised that the stable would monitor the horse’s condition in the coming days and advise stewards of any abnormality that becomes apparent.

AMAZING MR HUGHES – Began awkwardly. Rider L. Cassidy reported that at no stage did the horse travel comfortably in the rain affected conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and swab sample was taken.

SENSE THAT – Overraced and shifted out to avoid heels approaching the 800m.

PAPAGO – Held up from rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.

HE’S DIFFERENT - Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

CASINO MOON - Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

ROCK ON IVY – Raced 3 wide without cover and then raced greenly in the home straight, making an abnormal respiratory noise on pulling up. Trainer D. Baker indicated he would now experiment with the addition of a tongue tie for the horse’s next race start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

OUR PLAYDOUGH – Raced wide throughout.

SAHARA GOLD – Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Lloyd was $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.


Race 3: XXXX QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1400m

I AM BRUSE – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and until the 200m.

CHOSEN HEART – Slow to begin. Had difficulty securing clear running after passing the 300m and until approaching the 150m.

RED SAMBUCA – After being crossed in the early stages, began to overrace and proved difficult to settle for some distance. Tightened for room near the 600m and had to be steadied.

FIRE PLACE – Raced 3 wide without cover. Rider A. Allen indicated that despite having to race wide before being ridden forward to assume the lead approaching the 600m, he felt the horse had not been forced to work too hard in the early stages and felt the gelding was entitled to run on in the home straight, however the gelding commenced to hang out rounding the home turn and proved very disappointing in the run to the line, adding that on pulling up he noticed an abnormal respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination indicated of the horse confirmed the presence of a respiratory noise indicative of the horse being a roarer. Stewards advised trainer Mr L. Birchley he must obtain a veterinary certificate for the horse, and also that it must perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.


Race 4: Sunshine Coast Local News Class 5 H'cap – 1400m

As J. Cooksley became indisposed after riding in Race 3, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of Roweiner.

ROWEINER – Slow to begin. Rider J. Taylor indicated that the horse may not have handled the rain affected conditions. Trainer W. Kenning agreed with jockey Taylor’s comments.

NOOGOORA BURR – Hung out throughout the event.

NOT A SINGLEMOMENT – Rider T. Bell reported that the mare travelled well throughout the event, however when asked for an effort in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. He indicated that it was his recommendation to connections to send the horse for a short spell. Trainer S. O’Dea stated he was disappointed with the performance and would have a veterinary examination performed on the horse tomorrow and would report the findings to stewards. He added he would give consideration to sending the horse for a spell.


Race 5: Searite Container Repairs Class 3 Plate – 1800m

CRAMMING – Slow to begin.

SHOW A NOEE – Raced wide in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which weakened in the home straight, revealed anhydrosis. Trainer C. Lavin will be interviewed in the coming days regarding the performance.

HARPSUND – Slow to begin.

BLUE MINI – Raced wide throughout.

HARBOUR SPRINGS – Lost near fore plate in running.


Race 6: Slade Bloodstock Class 1 H'cap – 1000m

Apprentice jockey M. McGillivray was reprimanded for being late to the mounting enclosure.

SOLITAIRE BABE – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

AERIAL PING PONG – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.

KLEINTON KID – Raced wide without cover.

WALTER – Raced wide without cover.

SMALL TALK – Raced wide without cover.

VISONA RED – Rider D. Browne reported that the horse had sweated up badly prior to the race and travelled well throughout the event however did not respond to his riding from the 400m and became unbalanced in the home straight. He felt that the horse had failed to handle the soft racing conditions. Trainer S. Mackinnon agreed that the horse did not handle the soft racing conditions and was of the view that the horse would take a fitness benefit from today’s event.

SUNDAY RAIN – Lost near fore plate in running.


Race 7: Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Class 2 H'cap – 1200m

MIDNIGHT CURFEW – Raced wide throughout. Rider J. Lloyd indicated he had concerns with the horse’s action over the concluding stages and for this reason he did not pressure the horse over the final furlong, and indicated that the stable advised him that the horse would now be sent for a lengthy spell. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

MUSIC OF LIFE – Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 8: Bank Of Queensland Mooloolaba Class 1 H'cap – 1400m

KING OF THE BAY – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.24 pm after becoming agitated in its race day stall.

FAIRYTALE BELLE – Slow to begin.
