SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From SCTC, 12.4.15 – Race 6

Trainer R. Wilson reported to stewards subsequent to this event that WAR HAMMER was found to be suffering from a virus, with significant nasal discharge. He advised that veterinary attention and treatment had been undertaken and the horse would be given a short spell.

Race 9

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons for Legal Counsel falling near the 1200m of this event. Stewards took further evidence from jockey A. Taylor, rider of LEGAL COUNSEL, and after viewing the patrol footage, found that at a point approaching the 1200m Punters Journey, after having obtained the lead, was steadied and shifted out slightly. This in turn caused WEWONYA which was also being steadied, to shift out, resulting in Legal Counsel, which was racing to the outside of this horse, striking the heels of WEWONYA, blundering and falling. In all the circumstances stewards could not attribute blame to any rider involved in this incident and considered it an unfortunate racing incident and took no further action.

Race 1: Statewide Taxation Services Maiden Plate – 1000m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by A. Spinks, rider of the 3rd placegetter, LEGAL ASSISTANT, against TANNIC being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 200m. After taking evidence from the riders concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video it was found that whilst jockey Spinks was taken wider on LEGAL ASSISTANT by TANNIC over the final 200m, stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered was sufficient to reverse the placings and correct weight was subsequently semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

MUSTANG JACK - Became fractious in the barriers and put its head down as the start was effected and lost considerable ground, and then was further hampered by SUPERIOR DRAGON, which reared and shifted out, losing ground.

SUPERIOR DRAGON: Reared at the start and lost ground. Raced wide and hung out for the majority of the race.

LEGAL ASSISTANT – Shifted out near the 500m to obtain clear running and made heavy contact with another runner.

EMERGE – Was inconvenienced and forced wider by another runner near the 550m.

EXCEED WITH SPEED – Raced wide without cover and was forced wider by another runner near the 550m.

Race 2: Kelly Equine Veterinary Services Class 3 Plate – 2200m

COUP D’ETAT – Shifted out approaching the 800m and in doing so initiated contact with another runner, forcing that horse wider on the track. Stewards questioned C. Maund regarding his reasons for shifting wider on the home turn which afforded clear running for the favourite SUPER COACH back to his inside. Jockey Maund explained that he had been instructed by trainer J. Thomas to ensure that his mount was the widest runner in the home straight as the horse has previously had a tendency to resent racing inside of other runners. He accepted that in hindsight he may have erred in shifting as wide as he did, however he was endeavouring to fulfil the instructions he had been given. Stewards confirmed the instructions with Mr Thomas, however advised jockey Maund that, in their opinion, he had erred, but given the margin between first and second, stewards did not take further action.

QUICK SPUR – Received pressure from another runner and was forced wider form the 800m and continued to buffet with that horse until near the 600m.

Race 3: Karl Dehaen Equine Service Maiden H'cap – 1400m

TRIPLE WON – Connections advised that with blinkers on for the first time it would race in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the start after being kicked by another horse behind the barriers and was subsequently cleared to take its place in the field.

DUKE OF STAGHURST – Slow to begin.
