Stewart regarding the performance of his mount and also the tactics adopted. Jockey Stewart indicted that as the horse had previously settled worse than midfield in its races he had anticipated that he would ride filly in a similar fashion. He added his mount began well in today’s event and he obtained cover quickly, however the filly overraced in the middle stages and he gave consideration when the pace was only steady to shift wider and continue to the lead, however as this had not been the horse’s pattern he was reluctant to do so and when the pace quickened passing the 800m he remained following the leaders. He added that the horse did not respond to his riding in the latter stages of the race and felt that this was as a result of the horse overracing in the early stages. He indicated that he had suggested to connections that the horse would be more inclined to settle in its races if the blinkers were removed from its gear, or it may be a better option to consider riding the horse on the speed. Trainer L. Ross indicated that following today’s race it would be his intention to leave the blinkers on the filly and race over a shorter distance at its next race start. He explained that after entering the home straight he positioned himself to take this run, however he did not feel there was sufficient room between those 2 horses and after waiting for a short period he elected to shift out around the heels of SOL WITNESS. He stated that after making this decision SOL WITNESS shifted out slight and, in his view, this presented a run between those horses, however he had already committed to shifting to the outside of that horse’s heels.
