Connections were advised that under the provisions of AR. 53A the horse will now be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.
DEVLIN POCKET – Slow to begin.
CHAT TIME – Trainer C. Anderson advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a mid to back position if circumstances permit. The horse settled in a midfield position.

As B. Stewart was to be overweight, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of SARGOOD LANE. B. Stewart was fined $100.
CASH LEAKAGE – Had to be steadied from heels near the 500m due to a weakening runner. Had some difficulty securing clear running over the final 100m.

Race 3: WISHLIST SUNSHINE COAST HEALTH FOUNDATION QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
BRAD THE LAD – Overraced and raced greenly during the early stages, having to be steadied from heels.
ONE UP – Overraced in the early stages. Hung out from the 800m to the 400m.
WICKED INVESTMENT – Slow to begin. Collapsed in the enclosure following the event, attended to by the veterinary surgeon, recovered in the swab stall and was diagnosed to have suffered heat stress. Trainer P. Butterworth was advised that the horse must be sent for a spell and must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again. Stewards questioned apprentice M. McGillivray and trainer P. Butterworth regarding the tactics adopted as apprentice McGillivray rode very vigorously during the first 400m to obtain the lead at a point passing the 800m. Apprentice McGillivray indicated that he had been informed that the horse has a tendency to be slow to begin and with this in mind he was asked to be positive out of the barriers in an attempt to obtain a position in the forward half of the field. He indicated that near the 1000m, after having ridden vigorously, he felt he would settle the horse in a three wide position trailing SHIROTAI, however when that horse continued forward and he was left in a three wide position without cover, he elected to pressure the horse again in order to be positioned closer to the fence and he was then forced to continue to the lead when COMMAND HUNTER shifted away from the fence near the 800m. Stewards advised apprentice McGillivray that, given the circumstances in that he had ridden vigorously for the first 200m, he would have been better served to remain in a three wide position rather than ask the horse for a further effort when leaving the 1000m. Whilst stewards felt that this was an error in judgment, they did not feel that the error should render him culpable under the rules and took no further action. Trainer P. Butterworth was reprimanded as in the circumstances stewards felt that he should have advised them of an alteration in the way in which the horse was to be ridden.
A STELLAR CAUSE – Overraced in the early stages.
D’LEEAJET – Had to be steadied from heels near the 900m.
ONE MANSINI – Raced wide throughout.
TAHITIAN FLYER – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: ALFASI HIRE BM75 H’CAP – 2200M
LASCAR – Raced wide from the 1300m and laid in under pressure in the home straight. Stewards questioned R. Fradd regarding his riding of the horse after passing the 1600m where it appeared he had opportunity to improve forward when the pace slackened significantly. He stated that he had considered pressuring the horse to go forward, however DANISH HOMBRE improved quickly to his outside and he was therefore forced to steady and as a result he elected to shift back to the inside to trail WHATALOVELYDAY. A short distance later he attempted to shift out and follow CLASSIC STAR in order to improve into the race. After doing so CLASSIC STAR obtained a position one off the fence and as a result he was then positioned three wide and unable to improve. Stewards accepted the explanation.
WHATALOVELYDAY – Steadied near the 1300m when placed in restricted room.
STAR FORMATION – After being slow to begin, was then ridden forward when the pace slackened approaching the 1600m and obtained the lead after passing the 1200m.
DANISH HOMBRE – Ridden forward from the 1600m when the pace slackened in order to obtain a position closer to the lead.
SCOOT FILOOT – Trainer J. Munce was advised that the horse is barred from competing at TAB venues until such time as its form improves at non-TAB venues. Stewards interviewed K. Gates regarding her actions when approaching the 1600m, which were to significantly steady the pace after having obtained the lead, which resulted in a number of horse which were trailing having to be steadied and take evasive action to avoid heels. Stewards advised jockey Gates that in the circumstances they were satisfied she had excessively steadied the pace and issued her with a reprimand under AR. 137(a).
Race 5: NURTURE FINANCIAL GROUP MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400M
SIR GREGOR – Raced greenly throughout and then whilst racing greenly approaching the 400m was inconvenienced by another runner which shifted out.
MAN ON THE MOVE – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages and then raced wide from the 900m.
SPIRIT MINDED – Connections advised that because of the wide barrier it would be the intention to have the horse ridden back in the field. The horse raced in a rearward position and had a tendency to overrace in the early stages. Obliged to shift wider on the track after passing the 400m in order to avoid the heels of another runner.
TONNA POWER – Obliged to shift wider on the track after passing the 400m in order to avoid the heels of another runner.
