Supplementary Report

From Doomben, 20.1.17 – Race 7

BALBOA ROCKS – Performed poorly and trailed the field throughout. Connections were advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.

______________________________

Race 1: Bolack Publications Pty Ltd Class 3 H’cap – 1600m

DARBADAR – Slow to begin.

HIDDEN GOLD – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

MYSTERIUM – Shifted out under pressure over the final 150m.

Race 2: Maleny Hotel Maiden H’cap – 1600m

TRAVISTEE – Change of tactics. Connections advised if circumstances permit the horse would be ridden in a more forward position than its previous starts from the favourable barrier position today. The horse was ridden accordingly. Apprentice S. Lacy reported her mount raced greenly throughout the event and hung out from leaving the 700m.

PAGE ONE- Jumped away awkwardly.

STRIKER THOMAS – Bumped by another runner and became unbalanced at the start. Near the 500m was placed in restricted room and had to be steadied. Overraced throughout the event.

RISEUPSKATING – Inconvenienced by another runner shortly after the start.

JET TRAIN – Which was positioned wide in the early stages was ridden forward after passing the 1200m to secure a position outside the lead approaching the 800m. Bumped by another runner passing the 400m.

PIPEMAJOR – Shifted out near the 400m and bumped another runner. Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount hung out throughout the event, particularly under pressure in the home straight.

IM JUST PINK – Stewards asked jockey R. Stewart to comment on the tactics adopted and the performance of the horse. He indicated it had been his intention to ride in a more forward position, however after beginning well and attempting to secure a position in the forward half of the field formed the opinion he would be caught wide if he continued to press forward and therefore he elected to steady and take up a position in the second half of the field. He added that after passing the 600m he placed pressure on IM JUST PINK and the mare did not respond immediately, however when shifted wider on the track in the home straight, responded to his riding and finished the race off strongly.

Race 3: Mask Events Class 1 H’cap – 1000m

VIENNA POWER – Stewards granted permission for the horse to not race in a nasal strip as it was unable to attached.

THE AMBASSADORE – Jumped away awkwardly. Lost ground in the early stages when unable to muster early speed. Hung in rounding the home turn.

COOCHIN BOY – Raced greenly in the early stages of the home straight.

ALMAZAN – Laid out rounding the home turn.

ODELIA – Held up for a short distance after passing the 400m. Rider dropped his whip near the 150m.

PICS PEARL – Raced greenly without cover. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had sustained an injury to the off fore tendon.

Race 4: Q Advertising Class 5 H’cap – 1400m

PERFORATION – Change of tactics. Connections advised they were not happy with the gelding’s finishing efforts and therefore the horse would be ridden in the second half of the field if circumstances permit in order to have it settle. The horse was ridden accordingly. Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse.

SCRABBLE – Jockey L. Tarrant reported that the horse felt short in its near fore action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Kendrick was be advised that the horse would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Trainer S. Kendrick advised stewards that in light of today’s performance, the horse will now be sent for a spell.

Race 5: Sea Vista Developments Maiden H’cap – 1200m

OUR GRACIOUS DANE – Slow to begin.

REAL MACHINE – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide.

FOXY MISS – Overraced in the early stages and was then held up rounding the home turn.

JOEL – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

TESTA DONNA – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage, and also causing the horse to be steadied to avoid heels near the 300m.

SET TO CONQUER – Raced wide without cover. Jockey J. Lloyd reported to stewards that his mount became awkward in its action from the 600m and as a result did not pressure his mount over the final 300m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Connections were advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

Race 6: Meredith Kitchens Benchmark 62 H’cap – 1200m

JETINTOIT – Slow to begin. After passing the 1000m had to be checked from heels and shifted wider on the track. Obliged to alter course after passing the 200m to secure clear running.

REJUVENATE – Slow to begin. Jockey J. Morris, rider of MASSIVE ATTACK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 1000m he did direct his mount inwards when not sufficiently clear of SILVER SCREEN, forcing that horse to be taken in on to REJUVENATE, causing REJUVENATE to make contact with the running rail and its rider having to check severely at this stage. Jockey Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period of 12 days, to commence at midnight, 28 January and to expire at midnight, 9 February. Held up for clear running from the 400m until approaching the 200m.

TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – Slow to begin.

SILVER SCREEN – Forced inwards and bumped near the 1000m. Was placed in restricted room approaching the 500m and had to be steadied. Then continued to be held up for clear running until the 300m.

MASSIVE ATTACK – Laid in from the 600m, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

Race 7: Sedgwick’s Boutique Benchmark 62 H’cap – 1800m

USENA – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden forward from the wide alley if circumstances permit. Ridden at the tail of the field. Held up for clear running from the 600m and had to be restrained from heels on a number of occasions approaching the 400m before securing clear running at a point approaching the 350m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and made contact with the running rail near the 250m. Jockey S. Bogenhuber was questioned as to her reason for riding at the tail of the field after stewards had been advised that the horse would be ridden forward from its wide alley. She advised that after travelling a short distance she was of the opinion that runners to the inside were being ridden aggressively and she would have been forced to ride very aggressively in order to cross those runners, adding the fact that the horse was having its first start wearing blinkers was also a factor in making this decision.

MONACO SNOB – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

SKYTASTIC – Raced wide from the 700m.

SHARP SPEEDO – Held up for clear running from the 450m until near the 200m.

QABLA – Raced wide for the majority of the race without cover.

ASALWAS – Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount was inclined to hang out throughout.

CALL ME RUSTY – Stewards questioned J. Guthman-Chester regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages when he restrained to allow ASALWAS to shift across his line at a point near the 1400m, which resulted in his mount losing ground when the pace of the race being set in the early stages was quite slow. Apprentice Guthman-Chester after hearing the stewards concerns and viewing the patrol footage agreed that this had been a poor decision on his part given the slow tempo that was being set, and agreed he had made an error or judgement at this point of the race, particularly given that his horse is one-paced and he would have been better served to allow the horse to stride forward and retain the lead. Stewards advised apprentice Guthman-Chester, in the circumstances, given his status as an apprentice, that no further action would be taken.

Race 8: Secutor Securities Pty Ltd Class 1 H’cap – 1400m

STAR ECHO – Slow to begin.

SCRIPTS – Overraced and laid out from approaching the 900m.

DEFECTIVE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and made heavy contact with another runner near the 150m.

TORNADO OF SOULS – Heavily bumped by another runner near the 150m.

FATA MORGANA – Raced wide.

REAL NATURAL – Raced wide.

DAUPHIN DE FRANCE – Raced wide without cover. Jockey J. Lloyd was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on his mount. He indicated that despite drawing a wide alley he had been instructed to attempt to obtain a position one off the fence just behind the lead. In attempting to comply with those instructions he rode without committing to a forward or rearward position, and when in a 5-wide position passing the 1200m, pushed forward and raced 3 wide without cover. He advised stewards he had considered restraining to obtain cover at the rear of the field, however was of the view that given the pattern of racing today, this would not have been advantageous to the horse’s finishing position, and for this reason rode aggressively to take up a forward position. Stewards noted the explanation.
