SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Deagon Trials – Thursday 19 July 2018:

Prior to the running of Trial 8, stewards, upon inspection of REWA LAD, found that the incorrect horse had been presented to trial and was in fact another horse named BIG BISCUITS. Stewards subsequently scratched REWARD LAD and inquired into the circumstances and established that the G. Cornish stable had failed to correctly identify these two horses and as such Mr Cornish pleaded guilty to a charge under LR. 40(b) and was fined the sum of $300.

GENERAL

As D. Browne and J. Hoopert were injured and L. Dittman was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: IRON JACK AUSTRALIAN LAGER CLASS 3 H’CAP – 2200M

LATINO LOVER – When the pace was only steady in the early stages, was ridden forward from the 1400m to assume a position outside the lead after passing the 1200m.

REAL STING – Lost the near hind plate in running.

CLASSY RUBY – Overraced for a short distance when challenged for the lead after passing the 1200m until leaving the 1000m.

KING RAGNAR – Hung out under pressure after passing the 400m.

LAUDIT – Slow to begin.

FRANCISCA – Overraced when the pace slackened approaching the first turn.

Race 3: FUJI XEROX BUSINESS CENTRE SUNSHINE COAST MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

MULLAGHMORE – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

IT’S NOT AN ISSUE – Raced three wide without cover. Inconvenienced after passing the 300m.

SECRET SITES – Slow to begin.

TESTA DONNA – Raced greenly throughout.

Race 4: SUNCOAST CABS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M

NINE CIGARS – Overraced in the early stages when restrained to obtain cover.

DRUMADOIR – After being caught wide in the early stages, was ridden forward and assumed the lead passing the 800m.

WICKED MAMA – Laid out between the 800m and the 400m.

OSMOSIS – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight, had difficulty securing clear running and was obliged to steady from heels near the 200m.

BUXTON – Laid in under pressure from the 400m onwards.

LITTLE DRUMMER BOY – Stewards permitted the horse to race without blinkers following an assurance from trainer B. Gill that a gear change of blinkers off had been effected with Racing Australia. Stewards instructed Mr Gill to provide email evidence to support his assurance that the gear change had been made.

Race 5: FLYING START SYNDICATIONS MAIDEN PLATE – 1600M

DEBONAIR DES – Restrained from heels when the pace slackened leaving the 900m, shifted wider on the track and raced three wide without cover from that point onwards. Placed in restricted room whilst weakening near the 500m.

NIGHT WHISPER – Restrained from heels when the pace slackened leaving the 900m, shifted wider on the track and raced three wide with cover from that point onwards.

TRUE RAIDER – Had difficulty securing clear running between the 500m and the 400m.

MAI TAI RAIN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

ON SHOW – Placed in restricted room and steadied near the 500m, obliged to restrain from heels and lose ground from that point until leaving the 400m when racing at the heels of a tiring runner. Again disappointed for clear running approaching the 300m before altering course to the outside approaching the 250m.

RELIABLE LASS – Bumped heavily by another runner on jumping away. Restrained from heels when the pace slackened leaving the 900m, shifted wider on the track and raced three wide with cover from that point onwards. L. Cassidy reported that the horse weakened badly from the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg. Connections were advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

ROCK DANCER – Jumped away awkwardly, made heavy contact with another runner and lost ground.

Race 6: SLADE BLOODSTOCK PTY LTD BM70 H’CAP – 1600M

The start of this race was delayed when BEAU ISA, which cast the off fore plate, required farrier attention behind the barriers.

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, M. McGillivray, the rider of NATURAL BLACK, placed 4th by the Judge, lodged an objection against DUTCH TREAT being declared 3rd, alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that near the 50m NATURAL BLACK had gained a tight run to the inside of DUTCH TREAT, and although DUTCH TREAT had shifted slightly back towards the fence, there was no interference to the running of NATURAL BLACK and therefore stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

NATURAL BLACK – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.

LITTLE WEALTH – Overraced badly in the early stages.

PERSONALISED – Overraced badly in the early and middle stages.

NOSSUH – Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead passing the 900m.

Race 7: SUNSHINE COAST FOODSERVICES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow J. Orman (TAKES TIME) and C. Gallagher (MORION) to view the stewards’ patrol footage in the home straight. After viewing the videos jockey Orman declined to lodge an objection.

BEVEILE, which reared and became cast in its stall, was declared a late scratching at 3:35 pm on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on BEVEILE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 3:35 pm:

3 cents in the dollar for the win #9
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #9
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
3 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6

Trainer D. Duryea was advised that BEVEILE will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.

TAKES TIME – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied near the 700m when obliged to race in restricted room and then overraced and was steadied near the 600m. Checked when tightened for room leaving the 50m. Stewards inquired into the circumstances of this incident and established that MORION, which was racing to the outside of TAKES TIME, had laid in under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten near the 150m and again, despite the efforts of its rider, over the final 50m. Stewards were not satisfied that any rider was at fault in this incident.

MISTER SPINKS – Held up momentarily passing the 400m and then became awkward when obtaining clear running approaching the 300m.

PLAY THING – Jumped awkwardly and was restrained from heels shortly after the start.

Race 8: RACE ZONE RACING SUPPLIES H’CAP – 1000M

TYCOON ACE – Found to have blood in its offside nostril on return to scale. Trainer T. Sears was advised that the horse must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to racing again.

SILIQUA – Slow to begin.

HIDDEN ROSE – Placed in restricted room shortly after the start and was steadied.

Race 9: SUNSHINE COAST DAILY CLASS 2 PLATE – 1400M

MAGIC SEASON – Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer F. Phillips was advised that before racing again the horse must trial satisfactorily and a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, must be produced.

MR RED SHOES – Slow to begin.
