General
As C. Gallagher and M. Hellyer were not riding at today’s meeting, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Hahn Super Dry Maiden H’Cap - 1000m
EULEILAH – Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. As its arrival on course was delayed, the filly was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
ROAD STORM – Slow to begin, then was bumped by FORENSIC AUDITOR.
FORENSIC AUDITOR – Began awkwardly and shifted in and bumped ROAD STORM. Shortly after straightening was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure.
BELLE’S PLUCK – Raced 3 wide without cover. When asked to explain the performance today, apprentice M. Murphy explained the gelding travelled fairly throughout the event, however failed to respond when asked for an effort and proved disappointing. He further added the blinkers were removed for today’s event and, in his opinion, that gear may need to be added for its next race start.
DER SIEGER – Raced 3 deep with cover for the majority of the race.
Race 2: Summer Bright Benchmark 75 H’Cap – 1200m
MANA – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
SASSO CORBARO – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 3: Iron Jack Class 2 H’Cap – 1800m
SHADAL – Slow to begin. Caught wide early and progressed forward to race outside the leader from the 1400m. Lost its off fore plate in running. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore foot. Prior to leaving the course was treated by the veterinary surgeon. Stable representative for trainer C. Waller was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the horse racing again.
EVOLO – Slow to begin. After passing the 400m laid in abruptly and became awkwardly placed at the heels of WINNING WAYS, and then continued to lay in for the remainder of the race.
WINNING WAYS – After passing the 1400m when in a trailing position commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels on a number of occasions when the pace steadied.
GREYNOMAD – Had to be steadied to avoid heels leaving the 1300m. Held up momentarily rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
LILAKAI – Passing the 1200m due to the slow tempo was obliged to shift out to avoid heels.
Race 4: Furphy QTIS 3yo Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
ROCKNAVAR – Jumped inwards at the start, bumping GREAT KEPPELL.
GREAT KEPPELL – Bumped at the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
YOURGUNAHEARMEROAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MISSIE ARCHER – Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained from heels. Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post.
SASSY STYLE – Raced keenly whilst in the lead.
GOLDSAY – Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained from heels.
Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
RED STINA – Bumped by ROCKNAVAR passing the 600m, which was shifting out to improve. In the early stages of the home straight had some difficulty securing clear running.
Passing the winning post was bumped on the hind quarters by MISSIE ARCHER, which shifted out under pressure.
MISTA LONGHORN – Slow to begin, losing considerable ground. Apprentice C. Bayliss was fined the sum of $300 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
Race 5: James Squire One Fifty Lashes QTIS 3yo Benchmark 70 H’Cap – 1600m
SEENTOOMANY – As the start was effected reared slightly and began awkwardly, losing ground. After racing in a rearward position when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight failed to respond and weakened to finish a distant last. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer M. Costa was advised the horse must undergo an ECG, with the results to be forwarded to stewards, including a veterinary clearance, and that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
DAWSON DIVA – Prior to the start being effected lunged forward in the barriers. Overraced in the middle stages of the event.
BAREFOOT – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
Race 6: Hahn Super Dry 3.5 H’Cap – 1400m
SHE’S RELIABLE – Began awkwardly.
TATCEE – Bumped at the start.
SPIRIT AND FIRE – Had a tendency to race greenly and laid in between the 1200m and 800m.
THE ZOFF – Raced 3 deep throughout and when weakening in the home straight had a tendency to lay in leaving the 300m.
MIA’S GOT CLASS – Following the event jockey J. Byrne reported that he elected not to pressure his mount over the final 100m as he was of the belief that the mare may have sustained an injury. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
THE ADMINISTRATOR – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be supplied prior to it next race start.
Race 7: The Gorgeous Class 5 Plate – 1000m
ALASKA – Trainer W. Bannerot was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Checked near the 300m when attempting a narrow run to the inside of MISTOFFELEES, which shifted in slightly. Apprentice J. Murphy, rider of MISTOFFELEES, was reprimanded under AR137(a) and advised to show more care in similar circumstances.
TRUCULENT – Held up for a short distance entering the home straight.
DESERT COWBOY – Held up for clear running leaving the 400m until approaching the 300m.
MISHANI ELECTRA – Raced 3 deep throughout.
SECRET MO – Raced 3 deep throughout with cover.
Race 8: XXXX Gold Benchmark 62 H’Cap – 1200m
SIENNA ROSE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
JACKPOT – Forced wide rounding the home turn.
SMUG SATISFACTION – Inclined to lay in in the early stages of the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance which was below market expectations, apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester reported his mount travelled well in a handy position to the home turn, however when placed under pressure a short distance later failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than some mild dehydration.
