SYLVESTER – Trainer B. Ahrens was reprimanded under AR102 for failing to lodge a stable return reporting that the horse had been gelded.

SIMPLY SO – M. Hellyer was questioned regarding the tactics adopted and the horse’s performance. Jockey Hellyer advised stewards that he had been instructed to settle at the tail of the field, which reflects the horse’s racing pattern, and given the horse began from a wide alley, he felt this was the best option. He added that the horse overraced and had to be restrained from heels after passing the 800m and again after passing the 600m. He indicated that he had intended shifting wider on the track around the heels of IMPLACABLE when approaching the 400m, however, after the horse had overraced, this caused his mount to be positioned to the inside of that horse’s heels. He further added that shortly after the 400m a run presented itself between IMPLACABLE to the outside and GYPSY’S TIP to the inside, which he placed pressure on the horse to obtain. He did not feel that at this point of the race the mare responded as he would have liked and whilst it did improve into the run, when the run commenced to tighten near the 200m, the horse was bumped by IMPLACABLE on a number of occasions and was reluctant therefore to proceed through the run. He added that despite there being tightening in the home straight, he felt that overall the horse’s performance was disappointing. Stewards, after reviewing the patrol footage, accepted the explanations tendered by jockey Hellyer.

IMPLACABLE – N. Thomas reported that his mount hung out until the 400m and then laid in under pressure from that point onwards.

Race 4: SUPAVIEW SECURITY & SUNSCREEN MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

BIRKIN BLACK – Shifted out slightly near the 500m and made contact with another runner.

ZARREEN – Restrained after passing the 400m and took no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Jockey L. Tarrant advised stewards that at that point of the race he felt that the horse had suffered an injury in a hind limb and as a result it commenced to weaken and he then restrained the horse. A later post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be showing signs of distress with possible systemic implications. The horse was subsequently treated prior to being transported back to the stables. Trainer J. Walk was advised that the horse would require a veterinary clearance and must perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next start.

ON THE BOSSA NOVA – Laid in under pressure from the 400m. Apprentice M. Murphy was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Race 6: DIGITAL VISION DIRECT QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

ASTRO BOY TOY – Overraced when the pace slackened approaching the 800m.

Race 8: TAB CLASS 1 PLATE – 1800M

HE’S THE DEEL – T. Brooker reported that she had been instructed to attempt to obtain cover, however the horse overraced and she was obliged to lead and in light of this she recommended to connections to consider removing the blinkers prior to next start. T. Brooker was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out to the end of the race.

NIATROSS – Held up rounding the home turn and had difficulty securing clear running until approaching the 200m and then laid in under pressure.
