Race 1: AUSCREDITS CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1400M

On return to scale D. Griffin, the rider of ITALIA BELLA, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against AMERICAN GENIUS being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 250m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that AMERICAN GENIUS shifted out noticeably over the final 200m, at which point ITALIA BELLA improved wider on the track to race to its outside. Stewards were of the view that the shift by ITALIA BELLA away from AMERICAN GENIUS was minor, that no contact was made between the runners and that jockey Griffin was not impeded from fully testing his mount over the concluding stages. Bearing in mind the manner in which both runners finished the race off and the margin separating them at the finish, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had AMERICAN GENIUS not shifted ground ITALIA BELLA would have won the race and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

AMERICAN GENIUS – Shifted out under hard riding over the final 200m. J. Bayliss was reminded of his obligations when his mounts are shifting ground.

HIDDEN BUDGET – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

ROCK ON DESTINY – A. Spinks was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Spinks’ good record in relation to this rule, however were also mindful of the totality of his whip use.

Put in some awkward strides rounding the home turn, shifted wider and then was eased down over the final 250m. A post-race veterinary examination determined that the filly may have a wind issue. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, would be required, and that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of stewards, prior to returning to racing.

DECK OF ACES – Trainer I. Prizeman was fined $100 for failing to declare A. Sewell as rider by the prescribed time.
