GENERAL
As S Thornton will not be riding at today’s meeting due to injury riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
JOLLO was injured en-route to the course and was subsequently a late withdrawal by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice at 12:50pm. Trainer P Duff was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance to Stewards prior to the horse racing or trialing again.
 
Race 1: ANZAC DAY Maiden Plate 2200 metre
 
NUBE VIAJERA (Lacy) – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Over-raced for a short distance approaching the 1600m.  Stewards questioned rider S Lacy in regards to the tactics adopted in today’s event in which she lead, which is in contract to its most recent racing pattern. Ms Lacy advised Stewards that whilst she had been instructed to be positive out of barriers, it had been the intention to obtain cover behind the leaders however when it became apparent that she would be caught wide, she took the initiative to allow the gelding to stride forward to a position outside the leader. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
DEAR SIBLING – Slow to begin. After being bumped near the 300m laid in under pressure and made contact with HUDOO VUDOO on a number of occasions over the concluding stages.
 
HUDOO VUDOO – Tightened on jumping. Near 300m shifted out and bumped DEAR SIBLING and was then bumped on two further occasions over the concluding stages.
 
BLUE CORNER – Began awkwardly.
 
DUTCH DELIGHT (NZ) – Tightened on jumping.
 
SYVEL GOLD – Raced keen in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 2: LEST WE FORGET QTIS Two-Year-Old Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres
 
ANGEL LIKE – Began awkwardly. Performed below market expectation. Rider M McGillivray advised he was disappointed in the filly’s finishing effort however could offer no tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination identified slow post-race recovery and a mild case of the thumps.
 
SON OF PHAROAH – Was bumped and forced wider near the 900m and as a result raced three wide for the remainder.
 
CHESTER'S ANGEL – Inclined to lay in from the 600m.
 
MISTER LARRABEE – Slow to begin. Near the 900m shifted out and bumped SON OF PHAROAH.
 
KALPANA – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running for a short distance near the 500m.
 
IT'S ALL TALK – Inconvenienced on jumping and lost ground. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
Race 3: CALOUNDRA RSL SUB BRANCH Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
ALLY'S BOY – Slow to begin and was inconvenienced shortly after jumping and lost ground. Laid in under pressing from the 400m. Restrained from heels over the concluding stages.
 
ALLEZ ZOU (NZ) – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn. Lost a near fore plate in running.
 
MOONSHINER – Began awkwardly.
 
THE VIRUS – Tightened on jumping.
 
QUEEN LAGERTHA – Performed below market expectations. Rider R Stewart reported that the horse was challenged for the lead in the early stages and as a result over-raced and in his opinion this had a detrimental affect on the mares finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
HARD EIGHT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
LADY MUMMA – Tightened for room on jumping and shortly after was bumped on the hind quarters by THE VIRUS and became momentarily unbalanced.
Race 4: SCTC HOPS & HORSES TWILIGHT RACES 30.04.21 Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
The start of the race was delayed when LAURIE became fractious in the barriers, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. Trainer M Kropp was advised that a warning would be placed against the geldings barrier manners.
 
DAEDALUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages. Near the 800m shifted out to avoid heels and raced wide for the remainder. When inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight rider J Orman lost the use of the offside reign.
 
LAURIE – Rider M McGillivray reported that they gelding laid out throughout, particularly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
THE LANDING – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
JENO – When inclined to lay in in the home straight and was placed in restricted room near the 100m.
 
BEAUETA – Fractious in the barriers and kicked out. Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.
 
DUBAI CLASSIC – Blundered on jumping. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
Race 5: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS Class 4 Handicap 1600 metres
 
FIREBOX – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
DRUMADOIR – Held up for clear running rounding home turn and App W Peel dropped her whip near the 300m.
 
TOP ORDER – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 2200 metres
 
YOUNGBLOOD – App L Kilner was fined $300 for use of the whip 8 times prior to the 100m, which is 3 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)
 
NEPTUNE'S CHOICE – When questioned rider L Cassidy stated that in his opinion the gelding races best on rain affected conditions.
 
HE'S THE DEEL – Slow to begin
 
IRISH PARDON – A post-race veterinary examination identified the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer K Hickmott was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.
 
NIATROSS – Raced wide for the majority.
 
BOLD DELAGO – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
ELECTRIC ELLYSE – Slow to begin
GROUP THINK (Bayliss) - Jockey J Bayliss pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 132 (5) in that he used his whip in an excessive manner, that being 20 times. Jockey J Bayliss license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days, to commence midnight 25/04/21 and to expire midnight 09/05/21.
 
Race 7: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres
 
QUEEN SWEEPER – Slow to begin. Near the 800m commenced to hang out until a point entering the home straight. Trainer S Kendrick was advised that filly will be required to successfully complete two official barrier trials prior to racing again.
 
SHAMATON – Trainer T Gollan was fined $100 for the late declaration of B Thompson as the rider.
 
STREAKA – Bumped on jumping. Raced four wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight making contact with SNAPPY REPLY near the 200m.
 
SNAPPY REPLY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.  Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have Cardiac Arrythmia. The stable representative was advised that the horse shall not start in a race until the Stewards have received a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG and must official trial in the presence of Stewards. A post-race swab was also taken for analysis.
 
BELISTIC MAN – Slow to begin. Forced wider near the 800m when QUEEN SWEEPER hung out and again forced very wide from the 600m when QUEEN SWEEPER continued to hang out.
 
MISTRESS OF DOOM – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until a point approaching the 200m.
 
VAST KAMA – Bumped on jumping.
 
Race 8: HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICOLE MAGUIRE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
INVIGORATING – Began awkwardly, shifted in and lost ground.  A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed it to be exhibiting a respiratory condition. Trainer S O’Dea was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance with satisfactory results of an endoscopic examination prior to the horse racing or trialing again.
 
NO REFUND – Became fractious in the enclosure, Trainer A Williamson was advised that a warning will be placed on the geldings pre-race manners. Began awkwardly.
 
DEE DAY DIVA – Tightened on jumping and lost significant ground. Rider M McGillivray reported that the mare laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
SHAMROCK LU – Rider B Thompson report that the gelding raced green under pressure in the home straight.
 
STARBUSTER – Began awkwardly and shifted out and making contact with ME MUM'S FOXY.
 
BUZZER BEATER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
KARAYER – Tightened on jumping and lost significant ground. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding to be lame in off-fore leg. Trainer C Munce was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.
 
ME MUM'S FOXY – Tightened for room on jumping.
 
SET ME UP – Tightened for room on jumping was checked and lost ground.
 
UNLIKELYOCCURRENCE – Tightened between runners on jumping and a short distance later clipped heels and blundered.
 
Race 9: SKY RACING Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres
 
KRAMERIC – Bumped on jumping. Over-raced badly when restrained to secure cover and as a result raced with its head in the air for short distance
 
BOFORS – When passing the 400m bumped heavily and became unbalanced when PERNELL shifted out to secure clear running. Following a Stewards inquiry, it was established that when PERNELL (R Fradd) shifted around the heels of DURUNDUR LAD (B Thompson) to improve, he did so where there was insufficient room between that runner and BOFORS (J Bayliss) and as a result of this rider R Fradd was reprimanded under AR131(a)
 
FORTIFIED (NZ) – Began awkwardly and made contact with KRAMERIC.
 
PERNELL – Began awkwardly. Made heavy contact with BOFORS near the 400m.
 
MEMORIAL DAY – Rider V Venkaya was reprimanded for his whip action in raising his whip arm above shoulder height.
 
NOBLE ARTIST – Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
REAL EMPRESS – Raced three wide without cover throughout.  
 
DURUNDUR LAD – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
THRASHER – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
 
WINERIES – Tightened for room and steadied on jumping. Raced wide from the 800m. Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
QUEEN OF THE NIGHT – Bumped on jumping.
