Race 1: BATHERSBY LEGAL QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Class 1 Plate 1000 metres
 
NOTIONS – Slow to begin. Rider T Wolfgram when asked to comment on the performance indicated that after being slow to begin he was positioned further back that he would have liked. The filly then raced greenly in the middle stages and did not quicken when asked to improve rounding the home turn. However in his view the horse was doing its best work over the concluding stages and would appreciated a step up in distance.  
 
SHE SHALL RULE – Slow to begin. Near the 200m shifted in and became momentarily unbalanced.


TAKEN BY THEFT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
WINTER VIOLET – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 2: LIVAMOL QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Class 1 Plate 1000 metres
The start was delayed when GENERAL WOLFFE was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. The start was further delayed when track staff who were standing outside of the course proper, had to be repositioned at the request of the riders.
 
GENERAL WOLFFE – Raced greenly and shifted out abruptly near the 300m.
 
GREY DEFENCE – Raced wide without cover throughout. Shifted in after passing the 800m placing LE FORCE and SUPER FAMOUS in restricted room, became unbalanced for a short distance after making contact with LE FORCE. Rider B El-Issa was advised to exercise more care in similar situations.
 
REFERO – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until a point approaching the 300m.
 
AMISFIELD – Change of Tactics - Trainer T Edmonds advised that the gelding, from the wide barrier will be ridden further back than its previous starts if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
INCLUSION – Became fractious in the tie up stalls pre-race and as a result underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. A post-race veterinary examination identified lacerations to both hind legs.
 
LE FORCE - Trainer D Hansen was fined $100 for the late declaration of Jockey T Wolfgram as the rider. Obliged to race in restricted room when passing the 800m and became unbalanced as a result. Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced near the 250m.
 
SHAJAEA – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay out throughout. Trainer J Symons reported the gelding returned with minor lacerations to the off hind leg consistent with having been galloped on.
 
START STRUTTING – Began awkwardly and shortly after was bumped and lost ground. Near the 800m was bumped by MISHANI TROUBLE which shifted in and became unbalanced.
 
SUPER FAMOUS – Began awkwardly. When obliged to race in restricted room leaving the 800m commenced to over-race and whilst being restrained shifted out making contact with LE FORCE causing that horse to become unbalanced. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 3: NORTH COAST SLASHING Maiden Handicap 1800 metres
 
The starting position of this event was moved forward a short distance when it was established that due to the rail position, the barriers would be situated on a newly installed crossing. This decision was made to reduce the possibility of horses’ slipping on jumping away.
 
NOT TOO HARD (NZ) – Near the 1600m was taken wider when BULGARI hung out and as a result had to be restrained from the heels of VALERIO PRINCE. Rider R Fradd reported that the filly did not run out a strong 1800m.
 
VALERIO PRINCE – Rider B Thompson reported that the gelding did not travel comfortably throughout the event and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
BULLGARI – Rider M Hellyer reported the gelding was inclined to hang out throughout. Over the final 100m the rider was obliged to stop riding in order to avoid the heels of NOT TOO HARD which shifted in and as a result was held up for clear running and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
DUTCH DELIGHT (NZ) – Slow to begin. Passing the 1000m shifted out to improved and raced wide until obtaining the lead passing the 600m.
 
HARD EIGHT – Raced wide from the 800m.
 
PRINCE HUSSON – Tightened between runners on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight after being held up rounding the home turn. Lost a near fore plate in running.
 
Jockey R Fradd was examined by the Club’s Doctor following his ride in this event and stood down from his remaining rides. Riding changes as per summary.
 
Race 4: PADDY WALSH PAINTING & SOLID PLASTERING Class 3 Handicap 1400 metres
 
FORT WAYNE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BARITONE (IRE) – Tightened for room on jumping. Held up for clear running over the final 100m and was unable to be fully tested.
 
GETYOURGREYON – Due to the slow tempo was restrained from heels near the 800m, before shifting wider and as a result raced wide for the remainder.
 
ELOTROLADO – Raced in restricted room to the inside of BIRKIN BLACK near the 800m.
 
REDENZO GAL – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
CONCEALED DYNAMITE – Slow to begin.
 
BIRKIN BLACK – Became fractious in the enclosure and kicked the fence and as result underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed suitable to race.
 
Race 5: SUPAVIEW SECURITY & SUNSCREEN Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
CLUB DOUBLE – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with ROARING SPIRIT.
 
GREYT INTENTIONS – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.
 
SIR EX BE - Trainer S Kendrick was fined $200 for the late declaration of Jockey R Wiggins as the rider. Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start commenced to over-race and whilst being restrained shifted out was awkwardly placed at heels. Raced wide throughout.
 
PURE PURGATORY – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
QUEEN LAGERTHA – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
FIFTY FOUR SQUARES – Tightened for room on jumping. Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
ROARING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with CLUB DOUBLE
 
SEIZETHEMOMENT – Trainer B Ahrens, when questioned into the improved performance, stated that the stable has always had an opinion on the geldings ability however this had not been reflected when presented to race. He added that he was quite disappointed in the geldings most recent performance and had an endoscopic examination performed which had failed to explain the performance. Mr Ahrens indicated that since that start he had altered its training program and kept the gelding fresh. He also added, the horse was able to easily lead in today’s event and these two factors in his opinion may have contributed to the improved performance.
 
GENTLE PRINCE – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels over the concluding stages and was steadied.
 
Race 6: THE PUMP HOUSE QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
AURON – Stood flat footed and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride. Also had some difficulty securing clear running in the straight.
 
BETTER LAD – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
HE'S THE NEWS – Put its head down as the start was affected and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
POUPEE – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with ZOU ZOU KACANARKIS. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
ZOU ZOU KACANARKIS – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with POUPEE. Over-raced in the early stages. Raced three wide with cover throughout. Weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings. Lost a near fore plate in running.
 
GOLDSCHLAGER – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until a point near the 200m when obliged to steadied after being disappointed for a run. Shortly afterwards shifted wider on the track and was again held up from the 150m and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
RICH LISTER – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until approaching the 200m.
 
FIGHTING MAD – Held up for clear running for a short distance passing the 100m.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres
 
TRU BLU TANGO – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
MOSCINI – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Near the 100m was eased when placed in restricted room between ARRIVERDERCI ROMA and CHICADILLY which shifted out under pressure despite the efforts of its rider.
 
SO SHY (NZ) – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
KING RAGNAR – Entering the home straight had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between TRU BLU TANGO which shifted marginally and ZUMIKON which had shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
ZUMIKON - Trainer L Gough was fined $200 for the late declaration of Jockey B Stewart as the rider. Began awkwardly.
 
UNO AMOR - Approaching the 200m was steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of HE CAN STAR which shifted in under pressure. App J Lloyd was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
CHICADILLY – Hung out throughout and as a result was awkwardly placed and the heels of UNO AMOR approaching the 400m.
 
ARRIVERDERCI ROMA – Inclined to lay in during the middle stages.
 
Race 8: REED RACING BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres
 
LET'S CHEER AGAIN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer C Tyrell was advised that the horse would incur a 3 month ban from racing and must undertake a 1000m gallop to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again. AR79(4). Trainer C Tyrell was reprimanded for failed to present on course by the prescribed time.
 
ROYAL PHOENIX – Near the 500m became awkward and made contact with the running rail when racing in restricted room to the inside of SPIRIT HOUSE which laid in and away from TOURMASTER which shifted in momentarily.
 
THREEPOINT MISSILE – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
SPIRIT HOUSE – Laid in rounding the home turn and shifted in.
 
TOURMASTER – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
ROCK ON DESTINY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
Race 9: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Class 1 Handicap 1600 metres
 
CLAIRVUE SUN – Slow to begin.
 
VALLEY OF DREAMS – Bumped approaching the 200m.
 
IMITARI – Weakened in the home straight and finished a distance last. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings. Rider R Maloney advised Stewards that he was of the view that the horse may have go its tongue over the bit which may have affected the horses breathing and that he had suggested to the stable representative to experiment with the addition of a tongue tie to the horse’s gear.  Trainer L Kelly undertook to report to Stewards anything that may become apparent which may have had an effect on the horse’s performance in the days subsequent to the event and that he would experiment with the addition of a tongue tie.
 
JAY CURVE – Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted in today’s event in which the horse lead which is in contrast to the established racing pattern. Rider J Bayliss advised Stewards that he had been instructed to be positive in the early stages and that trainer E O’Rourke was happy if there was a lack of speed in the event to allow the mare to stride forward to the lead. Trainer E O’Rourke confirmed that he had instructed Jockey Bayliss to roll forward in the event. Mr O’Rourke pleaded guilty to a charge under AR100(1) in that he had failed to notify Stewards of a change of tactics and as a result was fined the sum of $400.
 
TONI TOO (NZ) – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
