SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Ipswich Turf Club 15th September 2021 Race 4 – Trainer K Fogden advised Stewards following the disappointing performance of BARONIAL, a subsequent endoscopic examination failed to reveal any abnormalities, and that it was her intention to continue with the gelding’s preparation. Trainer Fogden also indicated that she may vary the gear worn by BARONIAL.
 
GENERAL
 
Due to covid restrictions Stewards permitted the following eight variations:
 
Race 7 – BOLD INSPIRATION – Ryan Wiggins - 56.5kg (+1kg)
Race 7 – MORNING FARE – Michael Hellyer – 55kg (+1kg)
 
 
Race 1: BLAKE MACHINERY GROUP QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden
Handicap 1200 metres
 
After being loaded into the barriers CAPITAL GIRL became fractious and got its off foreleg caught over the barrier partition, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice at 12:55pm. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on CAPITAL GIRL refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st MENAZZI – 17c win, 7c place
2nd FEAR THE NIGHT – 25c place
3rd FLYING DEPUTY – 19c place
 
Co-Trainer W Hulbert was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of CAPITAL GIRL.
 
The start was further delayed when KING HAMMURABI, which bumped its mouth when moving into the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination before being cleared to start.
 
FLYING DEPUTY – Approaching the 700 metres blundered after improving onto the heels of ART HEIST which was being restrained to obtain cover.
 
ART HEIST – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and near the 400 meters was obliged to steady when disappointed for a run.
 
LAZ BOY – In light of today’s poor performance Trainer C Vick was advised the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
HE'S A DEVIL – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
KING HAMMURABI – Slow to begin.
 
VIRGO VISION – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off-hind leg. Trainer S Kendrick was advised VIRGO VISION would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. Mr Kendrick also advised Stewards the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
DAME RETTA – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Rider L Tilley reported the filly raced greenly from the 800 metres onwards. In light of today’s poor performance Trainer S Dwyer was advised the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
MERSEY – In light of today’s poor performance Co-trainer T Edmonds was advised the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
COMMIT TO SUCCESS – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 2: FURNISH & FINISH QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
DEVASTING – Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
TOP DOG – As the gelding was unable to be pre-raced blood sampled, trainer D Batters was advised the nomination of TOP DOG would be refused until such time that Stewards are satisfied that a blood sample will be able to be taken in the future. The neck strap on the gelding became detached shortly after the start. When the pace steadied near the 900 metres was restrained and had to checked to avoid heels. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off-hind leg. Trainer D Batters was advised TOP DOG would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
SOCK'EMSID – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
THAT'S A MIRACLE – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
I KNOW DAT – From the wide draw restrained shortly after the start to obtain cover.
 
ITZ PARIS – Leaving the 1000 metres restrained to avoid heels and was shifted wider on the track for a short distance. Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
NO CHOICES – At the start restrained to obtain cover. When the pace steadied near the 900 metres was restrained and had to checked to avoid heels. Raced greenly and hung out for the majority of the event. Trainer M Hemmings was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of NO CHOICES.
 
 
Race 3: AUSTRALIAN ENERGY ANALYTICS Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
BELLICOSITY (NZ) – Near the 700 metres obliged to steady from heels when the pace steadied.
 
NAPOLEON GOLD – Inconvenienced near the 200 metres. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
BOWTIE BETTY – Approaching the 200 metres shifted out and away from MAXIMUM OUTPUT which had shifted out to improve, resulting in DUSTY HAZE being inconvenienced. M Butler, rider of BOWTIE BETTY, was advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.
 
DUSTY HAZE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
KURU LASS – Slow to begin.
 
MAXIMUM OUTPUT – Began awkwardly and contacted the barrier partition.
 
NANNA KNUCKEY – Approaching the 200 metres, when attempting to secure clear running, improved onto the heels of DUSTY HAZE which shifted out resulting in NANNA KNUCKEY being obliged to move wider on the track to secure clear running.
 
PRINCESS AMITY - Inconvenienced near the 200 metres. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
MAYBE IT’S TIME – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer J Johnston was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
Race 4: INGREDIENTS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes after a cast shoe, which had been sighted on the course proper, was located and retrieved.
 
BROKEN HERO – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
IOLITE – Began awkwardly making heavy contact with the outside barrier partition.
 
MAGIC DELTA – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
 
Race 5: OUTFIT OF THE DAY Class 2 Handicap 1800 metres
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to determine if KAIBERRY had been denied a fair star. After doing so Stewards ruled that KAIBERRY reared as the start was affected and other than for its barrier manners had been afforded a fair start.
 
KAIBERRY (NZ) – Reared as the start was affected and lost ground. Rider M Hellyer reported KAIBERRY did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event and may not have appreciated the seven day back up adding that the gelding also performs best on rain effected surfaces.
 
RADICAL SPIRIT – Near the 200 metres, whilst weakening, was placed in restricted room between CAIRNDOW and WAY BEYOND, which shifted out to secure clear running.
 
OUTBACK GLADIATOR – On arrival at the barriers the tongue tie on the gelding was refitted.
 
NEPTUNE'S WINK – Over raced in the early stages of the event. Trainer W Melvin reported the mare sustained a laceration to the off-hind stifle during the event.
 
 
Race 6: LIGGINS CONCRETING Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres
 
EXPLOSIVE TRUTH - S Tomlinson, rider of MISS MAKEPEACE, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100 metres, one more than permitted. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MISS ALLE BE – Near the 900 metres had to be steadied to avoid the heels of EXPLOSIVE TRUTH which shifted out. S Tomlinson, rider of EXPLOSIVE TRUTH, was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground.
 
RIP CITY – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer K Jones stated at its most recent start RIP CITY was obliged to race wide throughout the event and that he expected a forward showing today.
 
 
Race 7: COASTAL MEDICAL IMAGING BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1600 metres
 
 
After being loaded into the barriers RED LIGHT ROXANNE kicked out behind, was removed from the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination, and was scratched by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice at 4:32pm. After being loaded into the barriers SHY GIRL became fractious and kicked out behind, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and Stewards, acting on veterinary advice, declared SHY GIRL a late scratching at 4:36pm. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on RED LIGHT ROXANNE and SHY GIRL be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st DON’T DESPAIR – 20c win for bets prior to 4:36pm and 5c win bets between 4:32pm & 4:36pm.  
1st DON’T DESPAIR – 27c place for bets prior to 4:36pm and 9c place bets between 4:32pm & 4:36pm. 
2nd LEISA LOUISE – 17c place for bets prior to 4:36pm and 4c place bets between 4:32pm and 4:36pm
3rd JOY’S REWARD – 27c place for bets prior to 4:36pm and 9c place bets between 4:32pm and 4:36pm
 
WHEELS (NZ) – Rider R Maloney reported it was not his intention to lead however the horse overraced during the early and middle stages. When asked to comment on the performance trainer D Vandyke confirmed instructions were not to lead, and after the mare became agitated during the parade and worked very strongly to the barriers, WHEELS over-raced for the majority of the event. Mr Vandyke added it would be his intention going forward not to start WHEELS at the Sunshine Coast track as he is of the opinion, being the horses home track, this contributed to WHEELS becoming agitated prior to the event and also overracing throughout. 
 
PARANGAS – Near the 100 metres placed in restricted room when weakening and had to steadied.
 
IRISH ACE (NZ) – Had to be steadied when placed in restricted room and taken wider on the track near the 100 metres when LEISA LOUISE shifted out under pressure. Apprentice Z Llyod, rider of LEISA LOUISE, was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) for failing to stop riding and straighten.
 
MORNING FARE – Rider M Hellyer reported the horse failed to stretch out at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
LEISA LOUISE – Altered course near the 200 metres to secure clear running.
 
TRUST IN ALOHA – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
Race 8: COASTLINE MINI GARAGE Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres
 
CALCAREOUS – Raced wide during the early stages.
 
TRAVOLI – Forced wider when steadied from heels near the 900 metres. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MARLA JANE (NZ) – A short distance after the start was crowded room and after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of LOVEISABATTLEFIELD struck that runners heels and blundered Rider B Stewart reported the mare settled further back in the field than anticipated and when placed under pressure from the 500 metres failed to respond to his riding.   
 
A BIG CHANCE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ATLANTIC ROYAL – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
BOOM RANGA – Jumped out at the start. Inclined to lay in under pressure after being taken out by SIENNA’S REWARD in the early stages of the home straight and near the 300 metres rider S Fawke momentarily lost use of his near side rein.
 
LOVEISABATTLEFIELD – Near the 850 metres placed in restricted room and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CALCAREOUS which shifted in. Rider G cartwright reported that her mount laid in throughout the event.  
 
CRACK OF DOOM – On jumping taken out and crowded for room. Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer R Pereira stated CRACK OF DOOM had been caught very wide throughout at its most recent start and that the stable had expected a forward showing in today’s event.
 
STRATOBEL – Tightened for room and checked near the 900 metres when AMBER BLONDE laid in despite the efforts of its rider. 
 
AMBER BLONDE – Laid in near the 900 metres. Held up for clear running between the 600 metres and the 200 metres.
 
DU MAURIER- Tightened for room and checked near the 1000 metres when MISS DISS laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Held up for clear running between the home turn and the 300 metres.
 
CLEARY ADONIS – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 1200 metres commenced to over race and after being bumped by MARLA JANE which was racing to its outside, commenced to race fiercely and became awkwardly placed at the heels of STRATOBEL which was racing to its inside. CLEARLY ADONIS continued to race in restricted room until approaching the 900 metres when obliged to check to avoid the heels of STRATOBEL which had been restrained and lost ground.  
 
SIENNA'S AWARD – Shifted wider during the early stages of the home straight.
 
MISS DISS – Laid in near the 900 metres.
 
PARLOUR – Crowded for room on jumping.
 
HELSUN – Laid in for the majority of the event particularly when under pressure in the home straight. Raced three wide with cover throughout the event.
