Held up for clear running from passing the 200m to inside the 100m and then was disappointed for a run to the inside of STARSONIC, contacting STARSONIC approaching the finish. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted on the gelding, especially on entering the home straight, Jockey Du Plessis stated that he was instructed to settle at the rear of the field as per the geldings racing pattern and not to expose the gelding too early. He added he was instructed to ride for luck rather than shift wide in the straight and potentially travel off the crown of the track which he felt was inferior going. He added that on entering the home straight, he shifted in as per his instructions and was able to obtain a position following GAVE US UP which he felt would carry him into the race but after that gelding became held up passing the 300m he shifted in and attempted to improve into a run to the inside of STARSONIC but wasn’t able to improve and ran to the line without being fully tested. Trainer S Kendrick confirmed the instructions provided. Stewards advised connections that they intend to analyse the betting data of the race.
