SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Sunshine Coast –Race 8 - 2 January 2022 - BAYERISCHE
 
Stewards concluded an inquiry into the riding tactics adopted by Jockey M Du Plessis on Bayerische in this event. On review of wagering information, and considering the evidence provided by both Mr Du Plessis and trainer Mr Stuart Kendrick, their explanation was noted.
 
Ipswich – Race 9 - 19 January 2022 – MIDNIGHT RAMBLER
 
A routine swab sample was taken from the gelding which finished 2nd in the race.
 
GENERAL
 
As Jockey Travis Wolfgram was not riding at the meeting due to illness the changes were approved as per the riding summary.
 
Stewards approved the following rider to ride overweight.
Race 1 – Adam Sewell (Take Me On) plus 1/2kg at 54.5kg.
 
 
Race 1: BLAKE MACHINERY GROUP PTY LTD Maiden Plate (POLY TRACK) 1100 metres
 
 
 
UPLOADS – Slow to begin.
 
QUEEN SAFARI – Jumped awkwardly. Connections advised the mare bled from one nostril during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that this bleeding was due to external trauma rather than an exercised induced bleed.
 
GODDESS OF DREAMS – Trainer S Kendrick was fined $100 pursuant to LR67 for a late rider declaration. Raced wide throughout.
 
INDEEP – Raced wide throughout. Rider Taylor Marshall explained the travelled well, however didn’t sprint as he expected in the home straight. He added the filly felt comfortable in its action throughout the race. A routine swab sample was taken.
 
KIRELLA SHORES – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: NUMBER ONE QUALITY HOMES BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (POLY TRACK) 1100 metres
 
GOLLY HUTT – Slow to begin.
 
CHARLIE SPHENE – Apprentice Castle reported that gelding wasn’t comfortable on the poly track surface.
 
BOUNTY HUNTER – Raced three wide throughout.
 
KNOCKKNEE – Connections reported the mare will now be sent for a spell.
 
NOKONDI – Jumped awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages and had to be restrained from the heels of KNOCKKNEE. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
KALIYA – Restrained in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the rail. Raced three wide over the final 800m.
 
HIDDEN SECRET – Held up rounding the home turn. Rider dropped the whip near the 100m. Steadied off the heels of CHARLIE SPHENE near the 50m.
 
WINE NOT ROSES – Steadied off the heels of CHARLIE SPHENE (M Castle) near the 1000m. Apprentice Castle was reminded of her obligations to provide greater clearance to her fellow riders when shifting ground in the future.
 
Race 3: MASK EVENTS Maiden Handicap 1800 metres
 
GIBBED – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
DOUBLE QUICK – Over-raced in the early stages and as a result raced three wide over the final 1400m.
 
 
GENTLE PRINCE – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
STRONG AND FAST – Slow to begin.
 
Race 4: GARRARDS HORSE AND HOUND BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1800 metres
 
 
STAR STATUS – Slow to begin.
 
ZAWADI (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
LOUIS JANUARY – Held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of QUOTANT.
 
EVITA LA VIE – Held up in the home straight until near the 250m
 
QUOTANT – Rider reported that his saddle slipped back in the home straight placing him at a disadvantage.
 
BUMRAH (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
PRINCESS CAVALLO – When asked to explain the disappointing performance, rider L Cassidy explained the mare races best on heavy tracks and failed to respond to his riding in the home straight.
 
LORD LENNOX (GER) – Raced forward three wide from 1000m to take the lead near the 600m.
 
 
Race 5: COASTLINE BMW BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1600 metres
 
BRAVE NICK – Contacted the rail near the 1000m.
 
EL CHAPARRO – Bumped by SPURIOUS in the early stages of the home straight. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight and bumped SPURIOUS on several occasions. Apprentice M Castle was reminded of her obligations to stop riding and straighten her mounts when they shift ground in the home straight.
 
SPURIOUS – Unable to muster early pace despite the efforts of the rider. Hung in the early stages of the home straight and contacted EL CHAPARRO. Was carried wider over the final 300m by EL CHAPPARO.
 
Race 6: SOUTHEAST STAINLESS Class 1 Plate 1200 metres
 
Correct was delayed allowing the rider of the 2nd placing A Allen (JEEHAN) to view the footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against CHECKERS. After declining to do so, correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.
 
SKILORD (NZ) – Shifted in near the 1000m when not fully clear of JEEHAAN. Rider B Stewart was reminded of his obligations to allow his fellow riders greater clearance in the future. Shifted in despite the effort of its rider near the 300m and bumped heavily with AGARN. Shifted in near the 100m before being straightened.
 
AGARN – Raced three wide in the early stages, bumped heavily near the 300m and had to be checked.
 
GENERAL WOLFE -  Became awkwardly placed on heels near the 300m and had to be restrained.
 
GREY DEFENCE – Pulled hard in the middle stages, became awkward at the heels of SKILORD approaching the 100m and shifted in and bumped ATOUCHOFSYN.
 
LE FORCE – Held up in the early part of the home straight, Shifted out near the 300m and bumped MISHANI SCANDAL.
 
MISHANI SCANDAL – Checked near 300m when tightened between LE FORCE and FINICKY.
 
ATOUCHOFSYN – Hampered near 300m. Tightened for room near 100m and had to be steadied.
 
FINNICKY – Shifted in near 300m and bumped MISHANI SCANDAL.
 
JEEHAAN – Had to be steadied from the heels of SKILORD near the 1000m, following this incident raced fiercely.
 
PRETTY DEVINE – Checked when tightened for room near the 100m.
 
CHECKERS (NZ) – Inclined to lay in during the home straight. Rider was reminded on his obligations to stop and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.
 
CORBIN – Passing the 200m was momentarily held up for clear running.
 
Race 7: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
 
THAT'S A MIRACLE – Reared at the start and lost significant ground. Became awkward in its action in the home straight and shifted out near the 100m. Trainer advised that he would report back on the condition of THAT’S A MIRACLE in the days subsequent.
 
DANISH BOOM – Cast the off-hind plate during the race.
 
RUSTY ROSE – Reared at the start and lost significant ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed it to displaying tenderness to its head
 
 
Race 8: 8 SKY RACING QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
CHANCE AT MIDNIGHT –Jumped awkwardly.
 
RALPHIE – Jumped awkwardly. Held up near 200m and shifted out to improve.
 
FEE – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
SCREAM QUEEN – Raced wide throughout.
