STEWARDS REPORT

SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB

SUNDAY 13th FEBRUARY 2022

WEATHER – Fine   TRACK RATING –  Good 4         RAIL – 8 meters entire

Stewards – J Adams, K Daly, P Kennedy
Clerk of Scales – J Robinson

GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following weight variations:
Race 1: J Orman – BOOM RAIDER – 56.5kgs (+1kg)
Race 7: M Butler – AMBERTONE – 54.5kgs (+0.5kg)

Race 1: SOMMER PETROLEUM Maiden Plate 2200 metres

CONQUERING DREAMS – Shifted out under pressure from the 150m and brushed with BOOM RAIDER.

ROYAL SKY – Passing the 800m was unable to improve when held up on the heels of the tiring STRONG AND FAST. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

STRONG AND FAST – Change of tactics – more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. When the pace steadied near the 1300m commenced to over-race and had to be steadied from the heels of CONQUERING DREAMS. Passing the 1200m shifted in and bumped the running rail.

BOOM RAIDER – On arrival at the barriers the tongue tie on the mare was refitted. Bumped near the 150m and taken wider on track.

OCEANARIUM (NZ) – Made the turn out of the home straight awkwardly.

SAXON ROSE – After making the 1800m crossing awkwardly, a short distance later was taken wider on the track by OCENARIUM. Left a rearward trailing midfield position near the 1600m and progressed forward to race outside the leader from the 1400m.

Race 2: TENSENS Class 3 Handicap 1800 metres

ZAWADI (NZ) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

AMERICAN SAINT – When asked to comment on tactics adopted in the early and middle stages, apprentice A Jones advised instructions were to race in a one-off position and come to the outside, however stated she was unable to comply with these instructions when racing to the inside of  EVITA LA VIE passing the 1300m, she attempted to restrain and shift to the outside of that runner, however she was prevented from doing so as MR SO AND SO improved quickly to her outside approaching the 1200m, resulting in her settling on the rails further back in the field than anticipated. After viewing the patrol footage Ms Jones agreed with Stewards that she had erred in not maintaining a more forward position behind ZAWADI leaving the 1300m however bearing in mind apprentice Jones relative inexperience and her attempt to comply with instructions, Stewards were of the opinion her ride was not culpable under the rules for a charge to be laid under AR129(2).
