GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following weight variations:
Race 7: A BIG CHANCE – M Butler 55kgs (+1kg)

As L Tilley was ill, Stewards permitted A Thompson to ride COMETTI in Race 4. L Tilley was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride.

Race 1: VAWDREY TRAILERS QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

GALAXY GENERAL – After being loaded into the barriers, the horse’s near hindleg became cast on the barrier partition. GALAXY GENERAL was removed from the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and declared a late scratching at 12:28pm. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on GALAXY GENERAL refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st LARRIKIN ROGUE – 9c win, 4c place
2nd HEMSBY – 14c place
3rd PRIMED FOR VICTORY – 11c place

On return to the enclosure broke away from the attendant and galloped a short distance to the tie up stalls. Underwent a veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.

HEMSBY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

HEROIC SPIRIT – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

LARRIKIN ROGUE – Reared at the start and lost significant ground. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.

PHOSPHER BRONZE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

SHERIFF OF LONDON – Bumped at the start and lost ground.

CAPITEEL – Slow to begin. Restrained from heels near the 600m.

EARLSTON – Restrained from heels near the 600m.


Race 2: ULTIMA HOTEL QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

CHICKA – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was adjusted. Bumped on jumping and lost ground. Near the 800m checked and lost ground.

LA SOEUR – Slow to begin. Held up rounding he home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

PARIS AVENUE – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced and steadied near the 900m.

SIMPLY BETTER – Near the 900m shifted in and bumped TAMSIN on the hindquarters. Leaving the 300m tightened for room, bumped on the hindquarters of THE MISSIONARY and lost ground after being taken out by SPILLIFY which shifted out and away from PARIS AVENUE.

SPILLIFY – Slow to begin. Shifted out leaving the 300m.

WICKED CHANCE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CHIKA. Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 700m. Raced wide for the remainder of the event.

YES TO EXCESS – Near the 800m, when racing greenly, shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail and became very unbalanced. CHIKA and HEROIC MISS, which were following, were both inconvenienced and lost ground. Raced greenly for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the nearside canon, consistent with having been galloped on during the race.

HEROIC MISS – Bumped on jumping and lost ground. Near the 800m checked and lost ground.

ROY'S GIRL – Began awkwardly and shifted bumping HEROIC MISS.

THE MISSIONARY – Raced wide throughout the event. Bumped on the hindquarters leaving the 300m.

TAMSIN – Bumped on the hindquarters near the 900m and became unbalanced momentarily.



Race 3: FOLLOWMONT TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1200 metres

MISS DIVINE EM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

APPLE TART – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.

QUACKERY – Slow to begin. Steadied near the 900m when placed in restricted room to the inside of APPLE TART which was taken in by MISS DIVINE EM when not fully clear. T Harrison, rider of MISS DIVINE EM, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight before shifting to the inside to obtain clear running.

DEJANOVA – Trainer N McCall advised that in light of today’s performance connections will be reviewing the horse’s immediate racing future.



Race 4: QUBE LOGISTICS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1400 metres

BALTRAY – Leaving the 300m shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip resulting in both JOLLY RUPERT and HEAR HEAR being bumped heavily and becoming unbalanced. HARD OFFER, which was following, was hampered as a consequence. Trainer L Wheeler was advised BALTRAY must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr Wheeler indicated BALTRAY would now be sent for an immediate spell.

JOLLY RUPERT – Bumped heavily and became unbalanced leaving the 300m.

ENTERPRISE JEWEL – Slow to begin.

DAY TIME MARTINIS – Shifted three wide from the 800m and then raced wide for the remainder of the event.

BONLOE – Checked at the start when crowded for room between HEAR HEAR which jumped in and HARD OFFER which was taken out by ZATARA.

HARD OFFER – Jumped in at the start. Shifted wider from the 800m to improve and then raced wide for the remainder of the event. Hampered leaving the 300m.

NIDAROS – On arrival at the barriers a small amount of blood was present in the horse’s mouth, subsequently underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground.

HEAR HEAR – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Bumped heavily and became unbalanced leaving the 300m.

ZATARA – Trainer T Button was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of rider on the horse. Jumped out at the start.


Race 5: RPM Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

After contacting the enclosure gate moving onto the track BARNSBURY underwent a veterinary examination on arrival the barriers, was found to be lame in the off-hind leg and was declared a late scratching at 2:55pm. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on BARNSBURY refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st ARGYLE LANE – 4c win, 8c place
2nd WIN BURN – 1c place
3rd CARRY ON DRAGON – 12c place

Trainer A BRISKEY was advised BARNSBURY would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

As a result, the start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes.

WIN BURN – Rider J Orman reported the horse over-raced in the early stages of the event.

OZARCH – Slow to begin.

SECRET RED – Began very awkwardly, shifted out and lost ground. Raced greenly for the majority of the event.

BONGANI – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.

BOITUMELO – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.

CAPTURED IN TIME – Bumped at the start by SECRET RED.

PRINCESS AMITY – Trainer M Eggleston was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of rider on the horse. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.



Race 6: ALCOA WHEELS QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres

AMERICAN RED – When asked to comment on the disappointing performance rider M Savva could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an elevated post-race heart rate and a poor post-race recovery.

NORD LYON – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced and forced wider passing the 400m. Raced four wide for the majority of the event.

CARRIBEAN KING – After being loaded into the barriers kicked out behind, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SOUL SPIRIT – Raced five wide for the majority of the event.

ANOTHER SPIRIT - Near the 600m raced in restricted room to the inside of NORD LYON.

CHIEF ARTIE – After sustaining abrasions to the nearside hip and nearside hock when being transported to the track, was declared a late scratching at 2:39pm on veterinary advice. Trainers’ representative for R Heathcote was advised CHIEF ARTIE would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

RALPHIE – Slow to begin.

SMASHINGPLATES – Near the 600m raced in restricted room to the inside of NORD LYON.


Race 7: WERRIBEE MITSUBISHI BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1400 metres

TOOMAI – Slow to begin.

BURY ROAD – Slow to begin.

BOUNTY HUNTER – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

MOZART'S RIVAL – Improved onto heels near the 700m and had to be steadied.

JEEHAAN – Slow to begin.

A BIG CHANCE – M Butler, rider of A BIG CHANCE, had his license to ride in races suspended for a period of 15 days to commence midnight 24th July up to and including midnight 8th August 2022 under AR132(5) for use of the whip on 21 occasions in totality.


Race 8: WALK WITH ME BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1600 metres

ALL BUT GONE – Slow to begin.

FINSCEAL – Slow to begin.

DOUBLE BARRELL – Held up from the 150 metres until the end of the race and went to the line without being fully tested by its rider.

FEND OFF – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. Rider A Thompson reported the horse travelled comfortably during the early and middle stages of the event however when placed under pressure from the 600m failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. Trainer L Anderson advised Stewards FEND OFF is better suited when leading or racing handy in its races. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

THE KNIGHT – As C Robertson could not ride the horse at the allotted weight, and no senior rider was available, Stewards permitted apprentice M Castle to ride THE KNIGHT. Checked leaving the 1500m. J Molloy, rider of MARK THE HORSE, was found guilty of a charge under AR131(a) in that near the 1500m when riding his mount forward permitted MARK THE HORSE to shift in when insufficiently clear of THE KNIGHT which had to be checked. The license of J Molloy to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 24th July up to and including midnight 2nd August 2022.

DIVENIRE – Raced three without cover for the majority of the event.
