GENERAL
Race 1 – Stewards permitted jockey D Turner to ride 1kg overweight on LUCIFER THE CAT.
Race 8 – Stewards permitted jockey L Tarrant to ride 1kg overweight on STAR CHANCE.
Apprentice C Vitler is not riding at today’s meeting. Stewards accepted his explanation.
Jockey N Beriman is not riding at today’s meeting due to being ill. Stewards accepted her explanation.
Race 5 – Trainer S Ryan was fined $100, pursuant to LR67.1 for the late declaration of a rider on SUPER ZAMBONI.
Race 8 – EIGHT CYLINDERS (NZ) – Stewards approved a late rider change from apprentice M Philpot to apprentice L Martyn for acceptable reasons.
Race 1: TAPS MOOLOOLABA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600 M
CHARPANDA Stood flat footed as the start was effected losing considerable ground. Stable representative for Chris Lees racing M Jupp was advised that the gelding would now require a barrier certificate prior to resuming.
LUCIFER THE CAT Began awkwardly.
Race 2: INCA TAPAS BAR QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1600 M
LAW MARSHAL Began awkwardly. Near the 1200m was obliged to steady from the heels of Dempsey.
ROYAL EDITION Over raced early. Near the 1200m momentarily steadied from the heels of ATLAS JOHN which shifted in. J Guthmann-Chester was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
SIX OF WANDS Raced wide until approaching the 900m. When asked to comment on the gelding’s performance. D Thornton reported that SIX OF WANDS failed to muster early speed as expected, and as a result was caught wide in the early stages before he permitted his mount to stride forward and reach the position outside the lead near the 900m. He also added that the gelding did not let down as expected in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
SLUGWORTH Began awkwardly. Put in an awkward stride near the 350m. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted in today’s event jockey J Lloyd stated that from the widest barrier, he was instructed to try to ride the gelding with cover however after being caught very wide, was obliged to restrain to rear of field. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of the thumps, a slow post-race recovery, as well as a small abrasion to the off-hind pastern.
BUBBLY MOON Began awkwardly.
EVADE THE GAME Raced keenly early.
LADY THINKABELL Slow to begin.
TWIN ISLAND (NZ) Near the 1300m was obliged to steady when BOLD BEAUTY shifted in. Apprentice L Martyn was advised to exercise more care when restraining for cover.
Race 3: SEE RESTAURANT OPEN HANDICAP 1200 M
TYCOONIST Brushed with CALICO JACK in the early part of the home straight.
DEMON AWARD When asked to comment on the performance, D Thornton stated that the gelding was inclined to lay in throughout, and did not let down in the straight as expected. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of the thumps and a poor post-race recovery.
CALICO JACK Laid out rounding the home turn.
Race 4: AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS & HOSPITALITY TRAINING CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 M
FISTSOFFURY Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with NIGHTCAPPED. Tired over the concluding stages and a post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. When questioned in regard to the tactics adopted in today’s event. Jockey K Wilson-Taylor stated, as the gelding had been disappointing of late when ridden back in the field, he was instructed by trainer S Kendrick to be more positive and attempt to race in a forward position. Trainer S Kendrick confirmed the instructions as it had led recently in a trial and at its most recent start at Rockhampton, similar instructions were issued, however after beginning poorly settled back in the field. Trainer S Kendrick was further advised of his obligations pursuant to AR100.
BALTRAY Raced keenly early. Near the 800m, hampered and obliged to steady from the heels of FISTOFFURY which shifted in. Jockey K Wilson-Taylor was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a). Near the 300m bumped with FISTOFFURY.
MONASTERY Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running leading up to and passing the 300m.
NIGHTCAPPED Trainer J Buce advised that it would be their intention to attempt to lead on the mare in today’s event. Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Ridden accordingly.
HAYAKU Slow to begin.
Race 5: CTB ADVISORY CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 M
Correct weight was delayed to allow trainer J Moore to view the official vision.
NEW HAMPSHIRE Raced wide.
DONT CALL ME HONEY Laid out approaching the finishing line and bumped with THE SUN DANCE.
PROVANCE Trainer advised that it would be his intention for the gelding to be ridden with cover in today’s event. Ridden accordingly. Held up rounding the home turn and until near the 150m.
SECRET STATEMENT Improved onto heels approaching the finishing line and was held up. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer J Symons & S Laxon were advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to a future jump out, trial or race.
THE SUN DANCE Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Near the 50m raced in restricted room and was bumped by DON’T CALL ME HONEY which shifted out and SUPER ZAMBONI which shifted in. Jockeys D Smith and D Turner were both reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a).
SUPER ZAMBONI Began awkwardly. Raced keenly. Laid in over the final 200m.
Race 6: VIBE PR & MARKETING BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000 M
SIR MAURICE Raced wide.
ITALIAN DANCER Near the 800m was steadied from the heels of BOLD AS BRASS which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey J Bayliss was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a). Near the 200m was awkwardly placed on the heels of WHISKEY AND BEER which shifted out and was hampered. Jockey J Lloyd was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a).
WHISKEY AND BEER Improved onto heels over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested.
BOLD AS BRASS Raced wide.
HERECOMESANTORINI Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Held up and unable to shift wider until approaching the 300m.
IRISH THUNDER Raced in restricted room near the 800m.
ALBION SQUARE (GB) Raced in restricted room near the 800m.
YAMUMZA Over raced early. Near the 800m raced in restricted room to the inside of WHISKEY AND BEER which shifted in slightly before being corrected.
RIVA D'AMOR Raced wide.
Race 7: INDEPTH ACCOUNTING CLASS 1 PLATE 1400 M
DECRYPT Raced wide.
BOLD ARTIC Near the 900m improved onto heels, shifted out momentarily. Over raced in the early stages of the event. Momentarily held up near the 200m before shifting around heels to improve.
LITTLE JEANIE (NZ) Hampered on jumping. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 300m. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
SHALMUM Began awkwardly.
BLONDE ON BLONDE Trainer D Vandyke advised that it would be their intentions to ride the filly more forward in today’s event. Hampered on jumping. Raced wide in a midfield position.
EXCEEDAQA Began awkwardly. Apprentice B Wheeler reported that in his opinion the filly proved disappointing and may be best suited ridden further back in the field.
SHARON DRIVE Hampered on jumping.
UCELLE Leaving the 800m, improved onto heels and was steadied. Apprentice C Sutherland reported on return to scales that the filly over raced in the early stages.
VICTORY STATEMENT Near the 900m improved onto heels, shifted out momentarily.
Race 8: KANPEKI AUTOMOTIVE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1600 M
WAR DRAMA (NZ) Raced wide.
TREVENSON Stewards declared TREVENSON a late scratching by order of stewards at 7:40am at trainer S Morphy’s request due to there being no other suitable apprentice rider available to replace apprentice C Vitler.
UMETINI Rounding the home turn, obliged to steady and lost ground between BOLD HUSSAR and TOROS which momentarily shifted out before being corrected by its rider. Jockey K Zechner was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a). Laid in over the final 100m.
BETTER NOT FORGET Performed poorly. A post-race veterinary examination which found no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K Schweida advised that it would be his intention to send the gelding for a spell.
STAR CHANCE Had difficulty obtaining clear running. Jockey L Tarrant reported at on jumping hi right foot made heavy contact with the barriers.
EIGHT CYLINDERS (NZ) Raced wide.
