GENERAL
Due to the abandonment of two interstate meetings, race times were amended as follows:
Race 1. 12.17pm
Race 3. 1.34pm
Race 4. 2.14pm
RACE 1: LIFE MEMBER MICK SULLIVAN COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres
The start of this race was delayed when OUT OF TURN became fractious in the barriers, was removed to undergo a veterinary inspection and was cleared to start.
BEFORE THE THUNDER – Began awkwardly.
BUTWEDID – Slow to begin.
COOL RUNNING – Steadied from heels at the 500m. Held up for clear running passing the 400m and had to be steadied.
FULL STRENGTH – Raced wide throughout. Steadied from heels leaving the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Cast the near fore plate in running.
KANANASKIS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
MISHANI REACTOR – Began awkwardly. Over raced at heels from the 800m to the 600m when the pace of the race slackened. Hung out and became awkward in its action rounding the home turn.
WEATHER – Raced wide throughout.
RACE 2: LIFE MEMBER BILL WENDT FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres
The start of this race was momentarily delayed when the electrical system of the barriers malfunctioned and the starter effected this race manually.
LILLY GRACE (NZ) – Raced wide from the 700m.
MEANIE – Began awkwardly.
ROXSET – Began awkwardly.
SONECHKA – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
THE QUEEN OF TIME – Shifted out on jumping.
WHISKEY TOWER (NZ) – Buffeted between runners on jumping and lost ground.
BOLD MARIE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced fiercely during the early stages when attempting to obtain cover.
BUSHANN – Hampered between runners on jumping. Jockey J. Molloy reported the filly was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
HEAVY REIGN – Bumped on jumping and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. Near the 300m, tightened for room and had to be steadied when buffeted by SONECHKA which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider and BOLD MARIE which was taken out by BUSHANN which shifted out under pressure. Jockey J. Molloy, rider of BUSHANN, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
LADY SANTOS – Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room to the inside of SHAMROCK’S SECRET when taken in by BUSHANN. Jockey J. Molloy, rider of BUSHANN, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
SHAMROCK'S SECRET – Began awkwardly. Obliged to alter course near the 150m to obtain clear running. When asked to comment on the improved performance, trainer J. Edwards reported that he was not overly surprised at the win today adding that SHAMROCK’S SECRET had been scratched from several races over the past five weeks due to drawing wide barriers. He added that the run at Gatton on the 13th of June was very good, and it was 5 weeks between starts until running at Doomben on the 18th of July. In addition, trainer J. Edwards stated that the 10 day back up today suited the filly and he was confident of an improvement today.
RACE 3: LIFE MEMBER PAUL DOLAN QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 Metres
The start of this race was delayed when XTRAVAGANT GIFT refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 1.36pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on XTRAVAGANT GIFT be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st NINJITZOU 11c win, 9c place
2nd KING MAL 14c place
3rd FROTHSAY 17c place
Trainer N. Siiankoski was advised that the gelding must barrier trial prior to racing again.
HE'S A FIGHTER – Declared a late scratching at 12.43pm after a veterinary inspection revealed HE’S A FIGHTER to be displaying symptoms of an active ringworm infection. Trainer G. Taylor was found guilty of a charge of negligence under AR227(a) in that he failed to notify Stewards and/or scratch HE’S A FIGHTER after becoming aware that the horse was displaying symptoms of an infectious disease, namely ringworm, and this negligence led to a breach of AR90. Mr Taylor was fined $1000 and advised of his rights of appeal.
JAX AXE – Leaving the 400m, became awkward in its action and commenced to weaken.
LUDWIG – Slow to begin.
BUSKER – Slow to begin.
BELLA SPIRITO – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
RACE 4: LIFE MEMBER MARY HENZELL QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1400 Metres
The start of this race was delayed when PIERTAGA refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 2.17pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on PIERTAGA be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st GO MARO 2c win, 3c place
2nd COOL MOON 2c place
3rd PIGGIETALES 6c place
Trainer R. Tyrell was advised that PIERTAGA will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
FLOP SHOT – Slow to begin.
GO MARO – Raced wide throughout. Jockey A. Jones reported that it had not been her intention to lead, however due to the lack of pace during the early stages, she then allowed the horse to stride forward to a leading position.
LOVER NOTA FIGHTER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
SPOT THE AUSSIE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
SUDDEN STRIKE – Commenced to over race in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Raced wide throughout.
COOL MOON – Laid in under pressure during the early stages of the home straight.
NEWEVA – Commenced to over race in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
TOI TOI – Raced wide throughout.
INSIDE PASSAGE – Commenced to over race in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
RACE 5: LIFE MEMBER NEIL MANSELL CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
The start of this race was delayed when THELWELL underwent a pre race veterinary examination revealing a small laceration to the inside of the nostril and was cleared to start. Following this, TROIKA became fractious in the barriers, getting the off hind leg up, was removed and scratched on veterinary advice at 2.56pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on TROIKA be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st THELWELL 18c win, 20c place
2nd FIGHTING IDOL 26c place
3rd LITTLE VISTA 30c place
THE FIXER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
THELWELL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
FIGHTING IDOL – Cast the off hind plate in running.
LITTLE VISTA – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and obliged to alter course near the 250m to obtain clear running. Cast the near fore plate in running.
MISS HELMUT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
RACE 6: LIFE MEMBER TOM BLACKLAW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
BEE TWO – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Trainer G. Richardson was reprimanded pursuant to AR206(2) for incorrectly declaring the gelding’s gear with an offside blinker rather than a nearside blinker.
ABSINTHE CAT – Steadied approaching the 800m to avoid the heels of SIX MORE SONGS which shifted in. Rider A. Jones, rider of SIX MORE SONGS, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Raced wide throughout. Cast the off fore plate.
BREEZIN' – Began awkwardly and lost significant ground. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and the early stages of the home straight.
MISHANI STORM – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after working strongly during the preliminary and cleared to start. Began awkwardly, bumped and lost significant ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer D. Stanbridge was advised that MISHANI STORM will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
CLICK CLICK BOOM – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
TIPSY TIGER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
CRAVINGS – Began awkwardly. Apprentice S. Willis reported that her mount hung out under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 7: LIFE MEMBER PETER ALLAN BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2400 Metres
PAPAL MISS – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after contacting its offside hip on leaving the enclosure, underwent a pre race veterinary inspection and was cleared to start.
JUSTICE SERVED – Approaching the winning post on the first occasion when trailing SHAPE OF WATER, was steadied, improved onto heels, blundered and lost ground.
SHAPE OF WATER – Near the 1900m, steadied from the heels of PURE THOUGHTS, which shifted in. Jockey L. Dempsey, rider of PURE THOUGHTS, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Over raced onto heels near the 1600m, shifted wider and raced wide the remainder.
JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – Raced wide and was ridden forward from the 1800m before obtaining the lead near the 1000m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion. Trainer J. Hepworth was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
TRAPEZE TORQUE – Raced wide and was ridden forward from the 1800m before obtaining the lead near the 1300m.
BOLD TYRANT – Shifted wider near the 1300m and raced wide for the remainder. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from the offside nostril. Trainer G. Taylor was advised of the provisions of AR79(8).
I AIN'T CHICKEN – Jockey S. Sheargold replaced jockey A. Thompson when he was found to be overweight. Jockey A. Thompson was fined $300 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of NITROGLYCERINE near the 700m.
BIG HITTER – Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 300m. Rider J. Bayliss dropped his whip over the concluding stages.
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Over raced during the early and middle stages due to steady pace of the event and raced wide from the 700m when improving.
NITROGLYCERINE – Slow to begin. Near the 700m, raced in restricted room to the inside of HELL FOLLOWS which shifted in momentarily. Jockey M. Gray pled guilty to a charge pursuant to AR185 was fined $300 for changing his boots after weighing out.
RACE 8: LIFE MEMBER TONY LONG RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1400 Metres
ARCHERS REIGN – Connections advised of a change of tactics – to be ridden further back from the wide barrier. Ridden accordingly. Raced in restricted room near the 300m. Held up for clear running momentarily near the 200m, and again near the 50m and went to the line without being fully tested.
MIDNIGHT DRIFTER – Began awkwardly. Over raced for a short distance near the 1100m.
WONFORWAZZA – Raced wide throughout.
KEEPMEINTHELOPE – Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider.
JACKS AND SODA – After passing the 1200m, whilst over racing, improved into restricted room to the inside of KEEPMEINTHELOPE and had to be checked.
AU REVOIR – Raced wide throughout.
ECHO HUNTER – Slow to begin.
