GENERAL
Race 3 – K Purdy was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time for BRITANNIA ROSE.

Stewards permitted jockey B Lerena to ride 0.5kg overweight on SONECHKA.
 
Race 1 - P Butterworth was reprimanded pursuant to LR42(1) for failing to declare colours on the stable return for SERENE ECHO by the prescribed time.

RACE 1: CHEERS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M

SILVIO DANTE When asked to comment on performance, jockey T Marshall stated that he was disappointed with the gelding’s performance as it was reluctant to stretch out during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
BLOOD RED Slow to begin. Over raced for a short distance passing the 800m.
 
WELLY Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BLOOD RED.
 
WITNESS DIS Over raced whilst racing ungenerously in the early stages.
 
PERHAPS PERHAPS Inconvenienced passing the 400m when WELLY shifted out to obtain clear running. Altered course after approaching the 100m in order to secure clear running.
 
SONECHKA Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader.
 
RACE 2: COCA-COLA BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP         1200 M
The start of this event was delayed due to KAIZAD breaking through the front of the barriers before being restrained.
 
KAIZAD Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination prior to the running of this event after breaking through the front of the barriers and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly.
 
PRIME ASSET Underwent a veterinary examination prior to the running of this event and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly, shifted out, lost ground and bumped BONDED AFFAIR. Near the 900m, restrained to avoid the heels of BONDED AFFAIR which shifted in, when restrained, raced with head in air and hung out. Stewards inquired into this incident and issued jockey B Thomspon rider of BONDED AFFAIR with a reprimand pursuant to AR131(a). In assessing penalty stewards took into account, the racing manners of PRIME ASSET.
 
BONDED AFFAIR Tightened after the start and lost ground.


RACE 3: SPRITE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE       1200 M
The start of this event was delayed due to REIGN OF IVANHOE dislodging its jockey J Lloyd on two occasions.
 
REIGN OF IVANHOE Dislodged its rider on multiple occasions on route to the barriers and again behind the barriers. On the second occasion, jockey J Lloyd was struck in the head by REIGN OF IVANHOE. Stewards therefore declared REIGN OF IVANHOE a late scratching at 1:49pm. Subsequent to this event, jockey J Lloyd underwent a concussion protocol assessment and was cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements. Trainer L White was advised that REIGN OF IVANHOE would now require a barrier certificate prior to accepting for a future race for its pre-race behavior. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on REIGN OF IVANHOE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st STATEMENT OF TRUTH - 0c win 1c place
2nd KOHLER KID - 2c place
3rd MISS ADRIFT - 1c place
 
WALLY'S BOY Raced wide. Hung out throughout the event, particularly when rounding the home turn.
 
ALIQUAM Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
 
BRITANNIA ROSE Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Near the 200m was inconvenienced when KOHLER KID shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
EMPHATIQUE Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
 
MISS ADRIFT Began awkwardly.
 
ROTH QUEEN Slow to begin.
 
SECRET ROSE Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 

RACE 4: MT FRANKLIN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M
The start of this event was delayed due to QUEEN ARNI losing its near fore plate enroute to the barriers and, which then had to be replaced.
 
KINGSLAND Inconvenienced in the early stages of the home straight when
OVERTERN shifted out. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
WILD DUST Laid out in the home straight.
 
MOSCOW CITY After being bumped at the start, shifted out and inconvenienced OVERTERN. Raced greenly throughout.
 
ARISTOCRATIC GIRL Raced wide.
 
COLINTON Held up rounding the home turn.
 
ELEGANT STAR Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SWEET ANTHE Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
THE PUBLICAN Began awkwardly and made contact with MOSCOW CITY. Raced wide.
 
OVERTERN Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
WHAT ARTISTS DO Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.


RACE 5: RATU RUM BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP                     1600 M  

MONASTERY Near the 200m was bumped, and again near the 150m when BIT OF GRUNT shifted in under pressure, before shifting out under pressure in the final 100m and bumping BIT OF GRUNT.
 
ATLAS JOHN Began awkwardly. On return to scales jockey J Guthman-Chester reported that in his opinion the gelding was making respiratory noises over the concluding stages whilst weakening in today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
MOOTESSA Over raced in the early and middle stages and was checked from heels on a number of occasions approaching the 900m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a laceration to the off-hind heel bulb, consistent with having been galloped on.
 
BIT OF GRUNT Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages until near the 900m. Laid in under pressure approaching the 300m and bumped with  MONASTERY near the 200m, continued to shift in and near the 150m again made contact with MONASTERY. After passing the 100m was bumped when MONASTERY shifted out under pressure.
 
AUTUNNO Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
SET ABLAZE Raced wide. When over racing, near the 1200m was awkwardly placed on the heels of MOOTESSA.
 

RACE 6: BATI RUM BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP         1600 M

NAGAMIE Proved difficult to load. Connections were advised that the gelding would now require a further barrier certificate prior to accepting for a future race.
 
TURBULENT Approaching the 500m was steadied to avoid the heels of ATLANTIC ROYAL which shifted in. Jockey G Cartwright was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
YOU AND I (NZ) Trainer J Morris advised that it would be his intention to ride the gelding with cover in today’s event. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Ridden accordingly to today’s change of tactics.
 
TOROS Jockey B Thompson reported that whilst he had planned to race in a forward position, he had not planned to lead, however, after beginning well the mare travelled strongly and he allowed the horse to stride to the lead.
 
CRAZY EYED FRED Raced wide until approaching the 900m.
 
THE LOVE OF MARY Tightened shortly after the start and was steadied.
 

RACE 7: BILSONS'S TANGLE CLASS 3 PLATE         1800 M
 
ULTIMATE OUTCOME Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
JUNE Approaching the 1000m attempted to shift out to improve when there was insufficient room to do so between HECTOR DE MARIS (IRE) and KARIACTION, and as a result was buffeted between those runners for some distance before being restrained near the 950m.
 
CARIACTION Approaching the 1000m bumped and became unbalanced for a short distance when JUNE attempted to shift out to improve.
 
SACRED TED (NZ) J. Morris was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight and having to be replaced on SACRED TED (NZ) by D. Turner. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
PAULI Raced wide before being able to stride forward to the lead near the 1000m.
 
PRIDE AN' JOY Slow to begin. Following today’s disappointing performance, trainer L Wanless was advised that PRIDE AN’ JOY was stood down from metropolitan and provincial races until such time its form improves to the requisite standards.
 

RACE 8: MONSTER CLASS 1 HANDICAP     1000 M

MINOR KEY Blundered shortly after the start when FINAL VOYAGE shifts out, despite the efforts if it’s rider. After passing the 200m, attempted to improve into a tight run to the inside of ROCKY BLONDE and when ROCKY BLONDE shifted in slightly was obliged to check when approaching the 100m and lost significant ground. Stewards inquired into this incident and were satisfied that neither rider had ridden in a careless manner in the circumstances and took no further action.
 
PICKAXE Raced wide.
 
HUMPHREE BEAR Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
 
RARE AND RELIABLE (NZ) Held up from near the 600m until entering the home straight.
 
BOLD AS BRASS Raced wide.
 
FINAL VOYAGE Began awkwardly, and shifted out making contact with MINOR KEY.
 
NOBLE INTENT Raced wide.
 
DASHING HOPE Raced wide.
 
CAPIANA Slow to begin. Improved onto heels leaving the 600m and had to be steadied. Held up during the early stages of the home straight.
