SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
9 August 2025 Race 4. Eagle Farm
Trainer’s representative for the Archibald stable reported that NATIVE KING returned to the stable with blood present in one nostril and reported that the gelding would go for a spell.
 
 
 
RACE 1: INGHAM'S BUTTERMILK MAIDEN HANDICAP         1200 Metres
 
BEFORE THE THUNDER – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
COOL RUNNING – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Forced wide approaching the 900m when OUR MATE LOCKY shifted out. Raced wide throughout.
 
BOLD MARIE – Over raced during the early stages. After passing the 400m, attempted to shift out to improve and disappointed for a run between BEFORE THE THUNDER and COOL RUNNING and had to be checked as a result.
 
MEANIE – A post race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the left hind pastern and heel bulb consistent with being galloped on. Cast the left hind plate.  
 
OUR MATE LOCKY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 900m, whilst over racing, shifted out and forced COOL RUNNING wider.
 
SOUND THE BUGLE – A post race veterinary examination revealed superficial lacerations to the right hindleg consistent with being galloped on.
 
ZARLA – Jockey B. Thompson reported that his mount raced greenly and would derive benefit from the race experience.
 
WHAT ARTISTS DO – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Severely checked from heels of SOUND THE BUGLE near the 100m, became very unbalanced and lost ground. Stewards inquired into this incident and found that at a point near the 200m, a run had presented to the inside of SOUND THE BUGLE (apprentice C. Vitler) and jockey Rutledge (WHAT ARTISTS DO) rode aggressively to obtain this run and despite improving quickly, WHAT ARTISTS DO was disappointed for this run when SOUND THE BUGLE shifted back towards the rail and Stewards found in the circumstances, no rider had ridden carelessly and took no further action.
 
 
RACE 2: PFD FOODSERVICES CLASS 5 HANDICAP            1200 Metres
 
PERVADE (GB) – Jockey P. Hamblin reported that the gelding slipped behind on jumping. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DESIAH – Held up for clear running entering the home straight and unable to obtain clear running until the 150m.
 
SENESCHAL (IRE) – Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Began awkwardly and lost ground.  
 
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Heavy (8).
 
 
RACE 3: SAPUTO MAIDEN HANDICAP        1600 Metres
 
BARGARA BOUND – Slow to begin.
 
WHISKEY TOWER (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
LIFE OF TREE – Raced keenly whilst leading in the early stages.
 
 
 
RACE 4: OLI & VINE CLASS 1 HANDICAP      1600 Metres
 
BACKSTAGE – Jockey B. Thompson reported that his mount raced flat today. Trainer J. Gilmore indicated that the gelding would now go for a spell. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CHAYSE 'N' PENNY – Began awkwardly.
 
LORD DANILO – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 250m and unable to be fully tested.
 
HAZEY HILL – Began awkwardly.
 
SUPER FAIR – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 300m.
 
 
RACE 5: MCCAIN STAYCRISP CLASS 2 HANDICAP              1000 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes when CAFÉ MOCHA dislodged a winker enroute to the barriers.
 
STREAK OF WINNING – Began awkwardly.
 
CAFE MOCHA – Slow to begin.
 
 
RACE 6: PRIMO BACON BONANZA RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP             1200 Metres
 
SCRIPT WRITER – Began awkwardly and buffeted between runners several times shortly after the start.
 
RESOLUTE LADY – Hampered on jumping. Inconvenienced near the 100m when HOT FLAMINGO shifted out to obtain clear running. Jockey T. Marshall reported his mount was inclined to lay in throughout.
 
DASHING HOPE – Shifted out on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Leaving the 800m, restrained from the heels of RESOLUTE LADY which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey T. Marshall was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.  Approaching the 700m, checked from the heels of RESOLUTE LADY whilst over racing when RESOLUTE LADY shifted in. Near the 300m, bumped and raced in restricted room between SCRIPT WRITER and RESOLUTE LADY, which shifted out and away from HERECOMESANTORINI which shifted out slightly. Inconvenienced near the 100m when HOT FLAMINGO shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
EXCEEDAQA – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight until leaving the 200m.
 
VICTORY'S GHOST – Hampered on jumping.
 
IRISH THUNDER – Began awkwardly and bumped RESOLUTE LADY.
 
HOT FLAMINGO – Apprentice R. Thorburn was fined $300 pursuant to AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance (0.5kg of 2kg). Had difficulty securing clear running near the 150m.  
 
 
RACE 7: MASTERFOODS PROFESSIONAL CLASS 2 PLATE    1400 Metres
 
LITTLE JEANIE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Laid in during the early stages and over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 300m, when attempting to secure clear running, improved onto the heels of HALF LISTENING and became awkward.
 
NAVILLUS HELLFIRE – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
MIGRATORY – Raced wide the majority.
 
DARLHISMA – Over raced during the middle stages.
 
 
RACE 8: PFD BUTCHERY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP         1800 Metres
 
AUTUNNO – Slow to begin.
 
BOLD HUSSAR – Raced wide throughout.
 
KHANT QUIT (NZ) – Jockey B. Thompson reported that his mount was inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight.
 
ROSSO LEVANTO (NZ) – Near the 350m, shifted in abruptly. Jockey R. Maloney reported that his mount was inclined to over race which may have had an effect on the finishing effort of the mare.
