GENERAL

MOTORBIKE was declared a late scratching at 8:21am on veterinary advice. Trainer M. Hoysted was advised the gelding would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.
 
RACE 1: ARCHERS MAIDEN PLATE   1400 M
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing C. Graham rider of second placegetter FROTHSAY to view the Stewards footage of the home straight. After doing so, she elected not to pursue the matter further and correct weight was declared.
 
BEFORE THE THUNDER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer W. Bannerot was advised to report back to stewards in the days subsequent regarding the gelding’s condition post-race. Trainer W. Bannerot stated it is her intention to send the gelding for a freshen up and undergo a blood profile analysis.
 
BUSKER – Connections advised a change of tactics, to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Bumped heavily at the start and lost ground. Laid out when racing greenly leaving the 200m.
 
HEROIC REBEL – Slow to begin and hampered shortly thereafter. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
 
CAESAR CAKE – Bumped at the start having its hindquarters turned out.
 
FLAMING MAREE (NZ) – Jockey H. Van Der Hoven reported his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event.
 
FROTHSAY – Near the 200m, shifted in slightly before bumping with BUSKER which also laid out.
 
PILASSO – Connections advised a change of tactics, to settle midfield. Ridden accordingly.
 
INSIDE PASSAGE – Began awkwardly.
 
LACEYLACE – Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping. Over raced in the early stages. Approaching the 300m when weakening, momentarily laid in and steadied from the heels of FLAMING MAREE (NZ) which shifted out slightly.  Raced wide throughout.
 
RACE 2: BOSS ELEVATORS MAIDEN PLATE         1400 M
 
ELROND – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Bellamy was reminded of her obligations to seek permission from Stewards prior to communicating with trainers via telephone post-race.  
 
MAN OF THE TOWN – Shifted in on jumping.
 
BELLE OF BERLIN – Near the 1200m, bumped and became unbalanced.
 
LA GRACIA (NZ) – Hampered on jumping. Near the 500m, momentarily raced in restricted room to inside of RUSTY TYCOON which laid in.
 
INQUICKTIME – Bumped and became unbalanced when BELLE OF BERLIN shifted in when momentarily racing in restricted room to the inside of BUFFALO THEORY. Jockey A. Jones reported her mount would benefit from more racing experience. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
RUSTY TYCOON – Near the 400m, laid in and was awkwardly placed on heels. Continued to lay in for the remainder. Brushed with KACHI near the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an upper respiratory noise. Stable representative J. Coetzee was advised RUSTY TYCOON would require veterinary clearance inclusive of an endoscopic scope prior to resuming racing.
 
KACHI – Tightened for room at the start when MAN OF THE TOWN shifted in on jumping. Brushed with RUSTY TYCOON near the 300m.
 
RACE 3: STRATA COMPLIANCE SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1000 M
 
STREAK OF WINNING – Near the 200m, bumped with HUMPHREE BEAR.  Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Maloney stated his mount failed to muster speed early, was obliged to settle further back and wide from today’s barrier and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
HUMPHREE BEAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 200m, bumped with STREAK OF WINNING.
 
THE SUN DANCE – Slow to begin.
 
KING OF THE JUNGLE – Trainer B. Healey was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.
 
After the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Soft 6 at 6:40pm.
 
RACE 4: MAI STRATA RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP         1000 M
 
BOLD AS BRASS – Shifted out on jumping and bumped BRAIDWOOD PRINCE. Laid out near the 300m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
COUNT NICHOLAS –Near the 300m, inclined to lay in and was awkwardly placed on the heels of BOLD AS BRASS which shifted out, obliging COUNT NICHOLAS to shift wider. Raced wide for the majority.
 
CUTTING EDGE – Shifted out near the 150m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Maloney stated the gelding may have choked down. Co-Trainer T. Sears advised Stewards he would report back in the days subsequent regarding the gelding’s condition. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
ABSINTHE CAT – Raced wide for the majority. Near the 150m, momentarily steadied when CUTTING EDGE shifted out.
 
NOBLE INTENT – Slow to begin and hampered shortly thereafter. Near the 500m, obliged to steady when racing to the inside of BRAIDWOOD PRINCE.
 
BRAIDWOOD PRINCE – Bumped heavily at the start. Near the 500m when over racing, contacted the heels of EARLSTON, blundered and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority.
 
EARLSTON – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period and was subsequently cleared to start. Blundered at the start. Over raced in the middle stages.
 
RACE 5: HIGGINS COATINGS CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1200 M

GAMBINO – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn and for the remainder of the event and went to the finish line unable to be fully tested.
 
ORIENTE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority.
 
RICKYTHESTEAMBOAT – Began awkwardly. Near the 1100m, obliged to steady from the heels of FINAL VOYAGE when that runner shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice C. Collis was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Near the 850m when racing keenly, was obliged to steady from heels.
 
HOFFMAN – Trainer B. Healey was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden with cover. Ridden accordingly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
TIME TO CRY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period and was subsequently cleared to start.
 
ARABIAN ROSE – Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance, Trainer J. Healy stated after being caught wide at its most recent start, the mare was obliged to position further forward and in his opinion races better just off the speed.
 
SMART SHAZZA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until approaching the 100m, before shifting in to secure clear running. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey T. Marshall stated it was his intention to settle further forward however after being slow to begin, he had to settle further back than anticipated.
 
FINAL VOYAGE – Began awkwardly. Near the 850m, obliged to steady when racing keenly.
 
RACE 6: PROPERTY AUDIT SOLUTIONS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1400 M
 
BIT OF GRUNT – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOLSHEVIC ROAD – Laid in over the final 100m.
 
LORD DANILO – Slow to begin.
 
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Raced wide for the majority.
 
ECHO HUNTER – Raced wide for the majority.
 
HARD TO DISMISS – Leaving the 100m, momentarily steadied when BOLSHEVIC ROAD shifted in.
 
BAUHAUS – Over raced in the early stages.
 
STAR CHANCE – Restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
 
VICTORY STATEMENT – Began awkwardly.
 
THE LOVE OF MARY – Slow to begin.
 
RACE 7: ARCHERS CLASS 3 HANDICAP     1800 M
 
UMETINI – After being caught three wide early, was allowed to stride forward and reach a position outside the leader near the 800m.
 
PIREONTI – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being fractious in the barriers, dropping its head and momentarily getting it under the front of the gates and was subsequently cleared to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CONTRERAS – Raced wide for the majority.
 
REEL WILD (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
ROTHSPHENE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
RACE 8: LANNOCK FINANCE MAIDEN PLATE         2200 M
 
KALAMIA KING – Raced wide for the majority. Jockey M. Hellyer reported his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event.
 
LUCIFER THE CAT – Began awkwardly and bumped with OBSTRUCTIONIST (NZ).
 
OBSTRUCTIONIST (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Bumped with ARGERICH approaching the finishing line.
 
ARGERICH – Bumped with OBSTRUCTIONIST (NZ) approaching the finishing line. Jockey A. Jones reported her mount was inclined to over race in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to settle. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, stable representative J. Coetzee stated there was no specific instructions issued other than allowing the mare to settle where it was comfortable. Nonetheless, J. Coetzee was reminded of his obligation to notify stewards should there be any change of tactics from the horse’s most recent start.  
 
CUT DIAMONDS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making heavy contact with the outside rail exiting the parade area and was subsequently cleared to start. Trainer V. Heading was advised a warning would be placed on CUT DIAMONDS for its pre-race manners.
 
SHIRLEY PEARLY – Inconvenienced leaving the 200m when KALAMIA KING shifted out. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
