OUR JEWEL – Over raced in the early stages. Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Stewards questioned C. Graham regarding her tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, which resulted in her mount racing three-wide without cover throughout, Stewards asked Jockey Graham if there had been an opportunity when the pace of the race was only steady, to allow her mount to stride forward which may have resulted in her obtaining a position closer to the fence. Ms Graham explained she had been instructed to obtain a position handy to mid, however when her horse began very well, she was in two minds as to whether she could fulfil these instructions, however attempted to do so and in the early stages felt that BATTLE WORTHY would cross to the fence and this would allow her to settle one off. When BATTLE WORTHY commenced to over race and caused her to remain three-wide, this allowed BERTUS to improve to her inside. Jockey Graham added that in hindsight, she should have then allowed her mount to stride forward from the 1200m, despite the instructions she had been issued. Trainer Representative L. Sears confirmed the instructions given. Stewards noted the explanation advised by Jockey Graham and agreed that she would’ve been better served pressing forward from the 1200m, whilst accepting this was an error, Stewards were not satisfied that it was an error that was so unreasonable as to be culpable under the rules given the instructions she had been issued and took no further action.
