Race 3 – M. Palmer +0.5kg
Trainer B. Healey was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider on CLIVE’S GLORY within the prescribed time.
Trainer C. Anderson was fined $200 pursuant to LR 68(1) for failing to scratch THE AVIATOR within the prescribed time.
RACE 1: FRANCES' FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
HIGHGROVE ROSE – Declared a late scratching at 5:42pm on veterinary advice after the filly became fractious when being saddled and sustained an injury to the near hindleg. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on HIGHGROVE ROSE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – TAKE ACHANCE ON ME 42c win, 21c place
2nd – MISSISSIPPI DREAM 29c place
3rd – KOBABILITY 29c place
Trainer J. Bruce was advised HIGHGROVE ROSE would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialling.
MISSISSIPPI DREAM (NZ) – Held up for clear running momentarily when rounding the home turn. Stable representative for D. Vandyke was advised that a reprimand would be issued pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting MISSISSIPPI DREAM (NZ) without pre-race earmuffs.
TAKE ACHANCE ON ME – Bumped with YAKITORI rounding the home turn and buffeted with that runner for a few strides.
AMELIORATION – Began awkwardly. When inclined to lay in during the home straight, became awkward at heels when attempting to secure a clear run to the outside of LUKEY BLUE which shifted out slightly.
PENSIERO – Bumped after the start. Raced wide throughout.
BELLOVE – Held up for clear running during the early stages of the home straight before shifting back to the inside to improve and was then obliged to race in restricted room from the 150m when racing to the inside of KOBABILITY (C. Vitler) which shifted in under pressure and was obliged to shift in near the 50m as that horse shifted in further. Apprentice C. Vitler was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
KOBABILITY – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with PENSIERO.
YAKITORI – Bumped with TAKE ACHANCE ON ME rounding the home turn.
RACE 2: MATTHEW'S COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
MASTERS APPRENTICE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
CLIVE'S GLORY – Trainer B. Healey was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting CLIVE’S GLORY with pre-race earmuffs, which is not a part of the geldings approved gear.
TRYMESOON (NZ) – Bumped after the start.
ATOMIC TIME (NZ) – Bumped after the start. Obliged to alter course near the 150m to secure clear running. Raced in restricted room between runners over the concluding stages.
TOO DARN SMART – Forced wider near the 400m when TRYMESOON shifted out to improve. Raced greenly whilst weakening in the home straight.
ARODASI – Bumped after the start.
PENROD – Near the 1100m, commenced to over race when awkwardly placed at the heels of TRYMESOON. Continued to over race and shift out and at a point near the 1000m, obliged to steady from the heels of TOO DARN SMART (B. Youngberry) which shifted in. Apprentice B. Youngberry was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised a warning would be placed on the colt for its racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
STILL UNWANTED – Bumped after the start.
RACE 3: CANNONBALL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
HELLO PUNTERS – Jockey J. Huxtable reported his mount had a tendency to hang in throughout the event.
MR DEMOCRAT – Began awkwardly. Obliged to race in restricted room after passing the 200m causing its rider to stop riding when racing to the inside of HELLO PUNTERS.
VAREJAO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Improved onto heels near the 600m and had to be checked when the pace slackened. Shifted out near the 200m and bumped with EGYPTIAN GODDESS.
CARBONARA – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey A. Jones stated that her mount travelled strongly throughout the event, however failed to respond as expected when asked for an effort passing the 250m.
EGYPTIAN GODDESS – Over raced near the 600m for a short distance.
RACE 4: KIMSIA'S OPEN HANDICAP 1000 M
LOST IN TRANSIT – Began awkwardly and lost significant ground. When attempting to secure clear running approaching the 300m, shifted out and bumped with LAYDOWNLILY, causing both runners to become unbalanced. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding after being very slow to begin.
RISE OF THE MASSES – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until approaching the 200m before again having difficulty securing clear running for a short distance near the 100m.
HEARTONI – Steadied from heels approaching the 500m when the pace slackened. Held up for clear running from rounding the home turn onwards and went to the line without being fully tested.
EN POINTE – Trainer R. Heathcote was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting EN POINTE with a tongue tie, which is not a part of the geldings approved gear. Lost it’s near fore plate.
SHALAILED – Raced wide throughout.
TROIKA – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
LAYDOWNLILY – Approaching the 800m, obliged to race in restricted room between ALLOUTATIME when steadied from heels and TROIKA which was taken in by EN POINTE (D. Moor). Jockey D. Moor was advised to exercise more care in greater circumstances. Bumped with LOST IN TRANSIT approaching the 300m and became unbalanced.
ALLOUTATIME – Near the 800m improved onto heels. After passing the 600m when the pace slackened, obliged to steady from heels and shifted out and initiating contact with TROIKA. Held up rounding the home turn onwards and went to the line without being fully tested.
RACE 5: GORDON'S BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M
BIG BOY GEORGE – Began awkwardly and bumped with CRACKENTHORPE (NZ). Raced wide throughout. After passing the 300m, became awkward when bumped on the hind quarters by SILVER CITY which shifted out after being contacted by LUTON HOO (NZ).
CRACKENTHORPE (NZ) – Bumped after the start and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
LUTON HOO (NZ) – Slow to begin.
CAXTON LASS – After passing the 1000m, obliged to check from the heels of ZINGALONG (M. Philpot) after that horse had obtained the lead and was then restrained. Apprentice M. Philpot was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(d) for excessively slowing the pace of the race. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until obtaining clear running approaching the 250m.
MISHANI STORM – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have mild heat stress.
RACE 6: RICK'S CLASS 1 PLATE 1400 M
KEENAN – Began awkwardly. Commenced to over race near the 1300m.
SANCTUARY STORM – Held up for clear running from the 400m until leaving the 300m. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey H. Van Der Hoven was advised to stop and straighten his mount in similar circumstances.
BOLLINGER MISS – Jockey M. Harley reported his mount raced quite flat throughout the event and proved disappointing when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BROOKLYN DAISY – Held up rounding the home turn.
GAGNANTE ENCHERE – Slow to begin. Over raced passing the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened.
QUALITY MISS – Began awkwardly.
RACE 7: MARIE'S RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1600 M
IONACELTIC – Approaching the 1500m, raced in restricted room between DEEP DAWN and SCOUNDREL which shifted in. Over raced during the early stages whilst being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover.
SCOUNDREL – Raced wide during the early stages before being ridden to a position outside the leader near the 1000m. Trainer J. Bellamy was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting SCOUNDREL without pre-race earmuffs. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MIDNIGHT MADNESS – Raced wide throughout.
DEEP DAWN – Approaching the 1500m, bumped on the hind quarters and became unbalanced after IONACELTIC shifted in which was taken inwards by SCOUNDREL (K. Wilson-Taylor). Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. Held up rounding the home turn and until approaching the 300m.
PERRI LASS – Over raced during the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
BONJOUR RUPERT – Stewards questioned Jockey A. Mallyon on his riding over the final 500m, he stated that after pressuring his horse rounding the home turn, it was reluctant to improve between runners and was inconvenienced near the 300m when PRIDE OF SAVABELLA shifted in, he was of the opinion that his mount would have finished the race off better had he been able to position his mount outside runners earlier in the event. Stewards noted Jockey A. Mallyon’s comments.
FORTY TIMES (NZ) – Raced wide during the early stages before being ridden to a position outside the leader near the 1000m.
PRIDE OF SAVABELLA – Slow to begin.
ATLANTIC ROYAL – Held up rounding the home turn up until the 200m.
FRIJOLES – Slow to begin.
