SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 3 – M. Hellyer +1kg
As Jockey J. Huxtable was ill and unable to fulfil his engagements, he was subsequently replaced as per the race day summary. J. Huxtable was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to resuming.
As Jockey J. Bayliss was injured and unable to fulfil his engagements, he was subsequently replaced as per the race day summary. J. Bayliss was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to resuming.
RACE 1: COOLUM BEACH HOTEL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1800 M
OLD FAITHFUL (NZ) – Jockey D. Moor reported his mount laid out for the majority of the event whilst racing wide throughout. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for it’s racing manners.
ZEDIQUETTE (NZ) – Jockey B. Thompson stated that he elected to lead in the early stages as the mare had a tendency to over race in the past and rather than allowing horses to cross the mare and potentially over race, he elected to lead. He further added that the horse travelled comfortably from the 600m however weakened noticeably from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
HAPPY COFFEE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 2: PETER ANDREW REAL ESTATE CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000M
SHAKO – Over raced into restricted room to the inside of DEFIANT SPIRIT near the 700m and had to be restrained as a result. Obliged to alter course after passing the 400m to obtain clear running.
KING SPIRIT – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 3: MEND BUILDING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD & FOUR-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M
LONE ARTIST – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 700m, steadied and shifted across the heels of READY TO SCHIPP when that runner shifted in.
BLUE ALLURE – Jockey B. Thompson reported that from a wide barrier he was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated in order to secure cover.
WHAT ARTISTS DO – Bumped after the start.
BREEZIN' – Near the 700m, steadied from the heels of LONE ARTIST when that runner shifted ground.
RED FEATHER BOA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after getting kicked behind the barriers and was subsequently cleared to start. Leaving the 900m, steadied and obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of LONE ARTIST which shifted in and away from READY TO SCHIPP. Leaving the 800m, again restrained when racing to the inside of LONE ARTIST which again shifted in and away from LONE ARTIST.
WANTED HILLBILLY – Bumped after the start. Raced in restricted room between the 600m and 500m when attempting to improve.
BRAZEN SAILOR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
DO WHAT I SAY – As there was no suitable rider replacement who was able to make the weight, Stewards permitted M. Hellyer to ride +1kg overweight. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers at the request of rider M. Hellyer and was subsequently cleared to start.
RACE 4: SUNSHINE COAST SHADE SAILS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M
HE'S A FIGHTER – Bumped after the start.
THE AVIATOR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after sustaining minor superficial abrasions to its off-hind leg and was subsequently cleared to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
SHEMAKESMENERVOUS – Over raced for a short distance when the pace slackened near the 700m. Trainer T. Edmonds was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.
QUEEN ARNI – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have heat stress and was subsequently treated by the on-course veterinarian.
RACE 5: CHRISTMAS COMPLETE CLASS 2 PLATE 1000 M
ENCOURAGED – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Commenced to over race when the pace of the race slackened after passing the 700m and continued to do so until rounding the home turn.
LANTAU ISLAND – Jockey R. Maloney reported that he was somewhat disappointed in the gelding’s finishing efforts as it failed to quicken in the home straight.
CORRUPTED – Slow to begin.
RACE 6: COOLUM AT THE BEACH RESORT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1600 M
FIFTH FORCE – Shifted in on jumping.
KERKORIAN – Significantly slow to begin.
MANHATTAN'S – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey C. Graham indicated that the mares best form is on rain affected tracks.
HUSSY EMPRESS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which found the mare to have abrasions to both hocks and was subsequently cleared to start. Slow to begin.
RACE 7: COOLUM BEACH SURF CLUB RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1200 M
GONE TO CAPE YORK – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until approaching the 300m. Obliged to steady near the 250m when ZARIPPA shifted out under pressure.
ZARIPPA – Jockey D. Moor reported that his mount did not travel strongly throughout the event despite having a favorable run behind the leaders and did not quicken in the straight when placed under pressure.
CHILPUR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after sustaining minor superficial abrasions to its near hind leg and was subsequently cleared to start.
DUKE OF LANCASTER – As there was no apprentice available to replace Apprentice R. Thorburn, he was subsequently replaced by Jockey C. Graham. Apprentice R. Thorburn was advised he would require medical clearance prior to resuming. Slow into stride.
FUNKY ME – Slow into stride.
ROYAL GLADIATOR – Raced in restricted room near the 150m when tightened between RARE AND RELIABLE (NZ) which shifted out and SHOW ME THE STARS which shifted in under pressure.
GULF OF SAROS – Raced wide throughout.
