RACE 5: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS CLASS 3 PLATE 1600 M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey K Wilson-Taylor rider of JEMOMA ALPILAGE (2nd place) lodged a protest against 1st placegetter NAILS MURPHY (IRE) ridden by apprentice J Williams alleging interference near the 300m. Stewards, after hearing evidence from all parties and on review of the stewards replay vision, found that near the 300m, JEMOMA ALPILAGE commenced to improve into a run to the outside of NAILS MURPHY (IRE) and to the inside of ZOU BIG BOY. Stewards determined that NAILS MURPHY (IRE) then continued to shift outwards, momentarily placing JEMOMA ALPILAGE in restricted racing room between NAILS MURPHY (IRE) and ZOU BIG BOY, resulting in JEMOMA ALPILAGE brushing with ZOU BIG BOY, who had shifted in marginally, before NAILS MURPHY (IRE) was then corrected by its rider. When considering the degree of interference and where it took place, the official margin between both horses and the manner in which both horses finished the event, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred, JEMOMA ALPILAGE would have finished in front of NAILS MURPHY (IRE) and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.
FISTSOFFURY – Bumped with NAILS MURPHY (IRE) on jumping. Lost its near fore plate in running.

When asked to comment on performance, Jockey A Jones stated that after beginning awkwardly, she was obliged to settle further back in the field than expected, she further added that the mare over raced in the early and middle stages which had a detrimental effect on its finishing effort.
JEMOMA ALPILAGE – Bumped with MORE THROUBLE (NZ) on jumping. Raced in restricted room and brushed with ZOU BIG BOY near the 300m when NAILS MURPHY (IRE) shifted out before being corrected by its rider. Apprentice J. Williams, the rider of NAILS MURPHY (IRE), was advised to show greater care when his mounts shift ground.
RACE 6: SPOT PRODUCTIONS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 M
BETTA BEING SINGLE – Tired over the final 200m. Jockey J. Huxtable could offer no explanation for the mares disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be display clinical signs of heat stress. Stewards will follow up with stable in the coming days regarding the post-race condition of the mare.
ITALIAN DANCER – Hampered at the start when REVITUP CHARLIE shifted out. Approaching the 100m improved onto the tiring BETTER BEING SINGLE and had to be steadied.
TIME OF MY LIFE – Shifted in under pressure over the final 150m. Rider A. Jones reported it wasn’t her intention to lead, however her instructions were to allow the mare to travel comfortably and to not overly restrain TIME OF MY LIFE. Rider A. Jones added that after beginning well and with no speed shown by inside runners, she elected to allow the mare to stride forward to the lead in the early stages.
TREVATT COURT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was subsequently clear to start after becoming fractious in the parade enclosure and breaking free from its handler. Began awkwardly.

RACE 8: TAB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M
BUNDELLA – Raced wide until leaving the 800m.
TORQUE I TEE – Apprentice J Williams reported that the gelding was disappointing when placed under pressure and in his opinion, TORQUE I TEE may have come to the end of its preparation. Apprentice J Williams was fined $100 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip above shoulder height.
ARABIAN ROSE – Raced wide majority of the event. Improved onto heels rounding the home turn and had to be steadied. Disappointed for a run between TORQUE I TEE and DEVINE FORCE approaching the 300m before then being severely restrained at the 200m point and shifting out across the heels of DEVINE FORCE to obtain clear running. Stewards questioned rider T. Brooker regarding her riding of the mare. Rider T. Brooker advised Stewards that she was issued instructions to have the mare travel where comfortable from the outside barrier and to obtain cover as the mare races best when ridden with cover. Jockey T. Brooker added that she was satisfied with the position she obtained in the race, however, approaching the 700m she was mindful that if she was to shift wider to improve, she would have to either follow sockemsid or improve wider of that runner and at that point of the race she felt it would have been detrimental to the mares’ finishing effort to follow that runner or shift wider and cover extra ground with the 59kg impost, therefore she elected to then follow CHIEF IN CHARGE from that point. Rider T. Brooker further added that she had anticipated an emerging run between TORQUE I TEE and DEVINE FORCE near the 300m, however this run did not fully eventuate, and she was then forced to restrain and shift wider around the heels of DEVINE FORCE. Jockey T. Brooker added that in hindsight, she may have erred in not improving wider of sockemsid passing the 600m given the way the race unfolded for ARABIAN ROSE in the home straight. Trainer J. Healy confirmed the instructions issued, however whilst not critical of the riding of the mare by T. Brooker, he was extremely disappointed with the result. Stewards in assessing T. Brooker’s riding of ARABIAN ROSE agreed that she may have been better served shifting wider of SOCKEMSID leaving the 600m however, where not of the opinion given her explanation that her riding was unreasonable or culpable to a breach of the rules given the circumstances, and elected to take no further action other than to note her explanation.
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
CHIEF IN CHARGE – Approaching 300m momentarily steadied when Sutherland attempt to shift out to secure clear running. Laid in, in the straight. Disappointed for a run near the 150m and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running.
DEVINE FORCE – Raced wide throughout. Jockey B Thompson reported DEVINE FORCE was obliged to race wide and was of the opinion this may have been detriment to its finishing effort.
