GENERAL
Apprentice O Webb did not ride at today’s meeting due to being injured, rider replacements as per summary report.
Jockey C Lowe did not ride at today’s meeting due to being injured, rider replacements as per summary report.
Jockey D Smith did not ride at today’s meeting due to acceptable reasons, rider replacements as per summary report.
Jockey J Morris did not ride at today’s meeting due to illness, he was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to riding again. Rider replacement as per the summary report.
RACE 1: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M
Prior to the running of race 1 apprentice E Molloy was injured in the mounting enclosure after being dislodged by MIDNIGHT MAGGIE (NZ) and required attention from Queensland Ambulance Service, whilst this was being arranged, ERAJA, DRAGON LINK & MASHEAN had commenced leaving the enclosure and proceeded to the barriers, all other runners returned to the tie up stalls. ERAJA, DRAGON LINK & MASHEAN were then returned to the tie up stalls and examined by the veterinarian. ERAJA was declared a late scratching at 12:25pm and DRAGON LINK was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12:40pm on veterinary advice. MASHEAN was cleared to start. Jockey B Thornton, rider of DRAGON LINK was dislodged at arrival at barrier on the first occasion and examined by the Queensland Ambulance Service and passed fit to fulfill his future riding engagements. Apprentice E Molloy was taken to hospital for further examination and was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to riding again, she was replaced by jockey M Kennedy. All races were moved back one race time with race 8 being rescheduled to 5:15pm. Due to the failure of the deductions calculator on the QOP and when the manual deductions system resulted in what would have been significant deductions to bets made prior to the scratching of both ERAJA and DRAGON LINK, stewards acting under BR23(7)(b) ordered that all bets prior to the scratching of DRAGON LINK be subject to tote prices.
MIDNIGHT MAGGIE (NZ) – Became fractious in the mounting enclosure and dislodged apprentice E Molloy. Fractious in the barriers and was slow to begin. Raced wide. Jockey M Kennedy reported that she attempted to restrain to a position but in her opinion the filly raced greenly in today’s event and refused to settle. Trainer P Duncan was advised that MIDNIGHT MAGGIE (NZ) would now be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to accepting for a future race.
GREYT PERFORMER – Trainer J Bellamy was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(1) for failing to declare a gear change for hoof pads on the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed to be lame in the off foreleg, trainer J Bellamy was advised GREYT PERFORMER would require a medical certificate prior to accepting for a future jump out, trial or race.
UNFAITHFUL – Laid out in the home straight.
RACE 2: HELLO SUNSHINE MAGAZINE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1600 M
ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR – Began awkwardly. Over racing in the early stages. Laid in, in the home straight.
CARAMELFUDGESUNDAE – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
KOOLATAH QUEEN – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and as a result was significantly slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight causing its rider to stop riding and straighten near the 100m. Trainer C Anderson was advised that a warning would be placed on KOOLATAH QUEEN for its barrier manners. Trainer C Anderson stated that it will be their intention to remove the blinkers to the fillies’ gear for future starts.
LITTLE MISS CLASSY – Approaching the 100m became unbalanced and lost ground when racing between ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR which shifted out, and KOOLATAH QUEEN which shifted in.
NEWEVA – Over raced in the early stages. Leaving the 1300m, when over racing, shifted out onto PEROXIDE who had to be steadied and shift wider.
PEROXIDE – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 1300m had to be steadied and shift wider when NEWEVA was over racing and shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer C Maher was advised PEROXIDE would require a veterinary clearance prior to accepting for a future jump out, trial or race.
ROCKING FROCKS – Over raced in the early stages. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until near the 300m.
RACE 3: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600 M
BELLE FRANCAIS – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. Laid in rounding the home turn.
EVADE THE GAME – Raced wide until near the 1000m.
BLIGHTYS HOPE (GB) – Over raced in the early stages. Forced wider and had to be steadied rounding the home turn when OAKFIELD GALAXY shifted out.
OAKFIELD GALAXY – Began awkwardly and shifted out onto EVADE THE GAME. Shifted out to obtain clear running rounding the home turn, hampering BOLD BEAUTY which was taken out onto BLIGHTYS HOPE (GB). Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight and shifted in significantly.
ZOUSOUL – Bumped at the start with STILL UNWANTED. After obtaining he lead, raced keenly during the middle stages and as a result weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination upon request of trainer J Healy revealed the gelding to have heat stress.
STILL UNWANTED – Bumped at the start with ZOUSOUL.
BOLD BEAUTY – Laid in, in the straight. Forced wider and having to be steadied rounding the home turn when OAKFIELD GALAXY shifted out. Apprentice J Lloyd, the rider of OAKFIELD GALAXY, was issued with a severe reprimand pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
FERGUS EN MARCHE – Slow to begin.
IRISH ACCOLADE – Held up rounding the home turn until near the 300m.
Following the running of this event, jockey B Thornton was examined by the Queensland Ambulance Service after reporting pain in his right foot, which he believed was a result of the incident in race 1. After examination, Queensland Ambulance Service ruled jockey B Thornton unfit to fulfill his remaining riding engagements. B Thornton was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to riding again.
RACE 4: ALLCHIN AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1600 M
WILD GYPSY – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and until the 200m.
TAMBOURINE MAN - Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with BRAZEN KINGDOM.
BRAZEN KINGDOM (NZ) – Began awkwardly was then tightened for room and had to be steadied when TAMBOURINE MAN shifted out. Lost the off-hind plate in running.
HELL FOLLOWS – Bumped heavily with BRAZEN KINGDOM at the start and lost ground as a result. Laid in rounding the home turn.
RACE 5: HAYMANS ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2200 M
LIKEABEEL – Inconvenienced near the 400m when SACRED BULL (NZ) shifted ground when not sufficiently clear. Apprentice J Franklin was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Apprentice J Busuttin dropped her whip near the 300m.
SACRED BULL (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages.
GOOD PHILLY – Slow to begin.
PAPAL MISS – Steadied near the 1800m when racing between LIKEABEEL and GOOD PHILLY which shifted out.
MAKAMAE (NZ) – Fractious in the barriers before beginning awkwardly and losing ground. Laid out rounding the home turn. Apprentice C Sutherland reported that the mare began to hang out from the 1000m and weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S Sutherland advised that MAKAMAE (NZ) would be sent for a spell, he added that it would be his intention to trial the mare prior to MAKAME (NZ) racing again.
VANCITY – Held up for clear running passing the 500m.
FLYING ROTHE – Raced wide. Over raced in the middle stages.
FRIJOLES – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
RACE 6: IAT TRANSPORT RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 HANDICAP 1000 M
HUMPHREE BEAR – Raced wide.
JAGGERY – Raced in restricted room near the 800m between MISS MERCY which shifted in and EXCELBOOM.
TARA'S REWARD – Trainer J Bruce advised it would be their intention to instruct that TARA’S REWARD be ridden with cover in today’s event. Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Ridden accordingly. When asked to comment on the performance of TARA’S REWARD in today’s event, jockey D Thornton, after travelling well behind the leaders, proved disappointing in the home straight and weakened badly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BELLE AFFAIR – Leaving the 900m became very awkward when crossing to the lead after attempting to jump a shadow on the track cast by the on-course lighting.
LEVAR – Raced wide.
EXPRESS BARBIE – Raced wide.
EXCELBOOM – Had difficulty securing clear running from 400m until leaving the 200m.
RACE 7: HIGGINS COATINGS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 M
The start of this event was delayed when OUT OF ACES lunged forward and made heavy contact with the front of the barriers, was then removed from the stalls and examined. OUT OF ACES was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4:48pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on OUT OF ACES be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – CAPITAL DIVA 10c win, 7c place
2nd – DECORATIVE 14c place
3rd – ITZA MOTZA 15c place
Trainer S Kendrick was advised a warning would be placed on OUT OF ACES for its barrier manners.
LIMERO – Raced wide. Near the 300m was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of TOUCHOFCLASS which shifted out.
CASANOVA MAN (NZ) – Slow to begin.
DECORATIVE – Trainer M Currie was fined $100 pursuant to AR65 for failing to provide the thoroughbred identification card.
INTRECCIATO – Raced wide. Jockey F Larson reported that INTRECCIATO hung out in the middle stages of the event and suggested to the connections that the mare may appreciate a step up in distance.
MOONLIGHT KICKS – Connections advised that it would be their intention to ride MOONLIGHT KICKS with cover in today’s event. Ridden accordingly.
EIGHT CYLINDERS (NZ) - Raced wide.
After the running of this race, stewards inquired into a report made by veterinary surgeon Dr T Doherty regarding concerns with the conduct of apprentice J Franklin prior to the running of race 7. After hearing evidence from Dr T Doherty and apprentice J Franklin was admonished and advised that whilst he did not use poor language, he must be mindful of the manner in which he conducts himself when interacting with race day officials.
After the running of this event, jockey T Brooker reported pain in her right foot caused when her mount was fractious in the barriers. Examined by the Queensland Ambulance Service and was cleared of any injuries.
RACE 8: TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1400 M
BIT OF GRUNT – Held up rounding the home turn until near the 200m.
I STOLE IT – Contacted the running rail near the 1100m. Held up rounding the home turn and the early stages of the home straight until leaving the 300m. Leaving the 200m, despite being pressured by its rider, was reluctant to improve between HEY CHARDONNAY, which was shifting in and MELTDOWN, which was shifting out.
KETTLEBELL – Trainer B Mair advised that it would be her intentions for KETTLEBELL to be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit from the wide barrier in today’s event. Ridden accordingly.
SHOW ME THE STARS – Got its head down as the start was affected and as a result was significantly slow to begin. After passing the 300m was obliged to alter course to secure clear running.
GULF OF SAROS - Slow to begin.
