RACE 7: TAB BM68 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes when NEW HAMPSHIRE became cast in the barriers for a significant period and was declared a late scratching at 4.23pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on NEW HAMPSHIRE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st JOY A PLENTY 13c win, 12c place
2nd ALLY 8c place
3rd BOLD JULIUS 20c place
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, trainer’s representative for the C. Munce stable, Mr N. Boyle lodged an objection on behalf of second past the post ALLY (ridden by A. Jones), the post versus first past the post JOY A PLENTY, alleging interference in the home straight. After viewing the films and taking evidence, Stewards were of the view that on entering the home straight, BOLD JULIUS commenced to shift out, impeding the running of JOY A PLENTY, forcing that runner out initiating contact with ALLY. Stewards therefore did not attribute this interference to any shift from JOY A PLENTY. However, over the final 200m although JOY A PLENTY shifted out, ALLY was not impeded in the run to the line and rider A. Jones was able to ride her mount out fully to the finish. Given the manner in which both runners finished the race off and the margin of half a length, Stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.
Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that NEW HAMPSHIRE will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
BOLD JULIUS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
CHILLIWACK – Jockey D. Moor reported that it had been his intention to ride in a more forward position however, during the early stages he was going to be caught wide and elected to steady and consequently raced further back than anticipated.
JOY A PLENTY – Raced in restricted room from the 800m to the 600m whilst racing to the inside of ALLY, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 8: XXXX GOLD CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1400 Metres
OCTOBER (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MISHANI CROWN – Commenced to weaken from rounding the home turn and finished last. Apprentice O. Kendal reported that in her opinion, the mare has come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Stanbridge advised that it was her intention to send MISHANI CROWN for a spell. Ms Stanbridge was advised that MISHANI CROWN must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
