GENERAL
Trainers T. & M. Sears were fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare the rider of KING OF VALHALLA by the prescribed time.
Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare the rider of DOUBLE WHAMMY by the prescribed time.
RACE 1: HIGGINS SUNSHINE COAST QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1000 M
JUNGLE RHYTHM – Was bumped on jumping
POINT DRIVEN – Began awkwardly and bumped with SLING which then bumped JUNGLE RHYTHM.
RACE 2: SKYRISE SCAFFOLDING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD COLTS AND GELDINGS MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
ENCRYPTED FEELING – When asked to comment on the performance rider M. Du Plessis reported the gelding did not travel strongly throughout the event and weakened in the home straight. M. Du Plessis further added he felt this could be attributed to being first up from a spell, on a heavy racing surface.
MAGIC INVADER – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. The gelding was noted to be making an abnormal respiratory noise when pulling up, a post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
YOURE NOT THE KING – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
ZOUSTROLOGY – Raced greenly throughout, particularly when under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 3: 24-7 ACCESS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
The running of this race was delayed 3 minutes owing to DOUBTFUL ANGEL refusing to load and subsequently being declared a late scratching at 7:03pm.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DOUBTFUL ANGEL be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - ELUSIVE DOMINA 0c Win 2c place
2nd -HEAD OF THE RIVER 1c place
3rd - ICYMISS 2c place
Trainer K. Clark-Peoples was advised the filly would be required to trial or jumpout to stewards satisfaction before racing again.
ICYMISS – Began awkwardly.
IT'S KAOS – Raced greenly over the concluding stages.
KAIPAKI ROAD – Apprentice S. Wilcock reported the filly did not race comfortably on the rain affected track.
RACE 4: OCEAN VIEWS RESORT CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1100 M
HEY DAISY – Rider B. Thompson reported the mare didn’t travel comfortably in the rain-affected conditions.
LOOSE UNIT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
DATA SCRAMBLE – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. Laid out when rounding the home turn.
A TOUCH FROM FAYT – Shifted out on jumping. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
BLAKEMORE AVENUE – Shifted in on jumping.
CROWN GUINEA – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.
RACE 5: HAYMES PAINT CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1600 M
LET'S DO IT AGAIN (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping. Shortly after entering the home straight Apprentice B. Youngberry lost the use of her off-side reign for a short distance.
WEONA REDWOOD (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the improved performance trainer D. Vandyke reported at his most recent start the gelding settled further back than expected, and his instructions today were to pressure WEONA REDWOOD in the early stages in an attempt to have it settle in a position further forward. Trainer D. Vandyke further added that in his opinion the gelding was down in class in todays event and it would be his intention to continue to step WEONA REDWOOD up in distance.
MORE FOR READY – Slow to begin. Near the 250m was obliged to race in restricted room between COOL RUNNING and LET’S DO IT AGAIN which shifted in. Apprentice B. Youngberry was advised to exercise greater care in future circumstances.
BUSKER – Shifted out on jumping.
KENSHIN MARU – Tightened for room and lost ground shortly after the start when BUSKER shifted out and LET’S DO IT AGAIN shifted in.
LORD DANILO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer J. Johnston was reprimanded pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting the gelding in pre-race ear muffs which are not a part of its declared gear.
DEVINE FALLS – Raced wide in the early stages whilst over racing. Rider M. Butler reported his mount didn’t travel comfortably at any stage of the event, due to the rain affected track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RACE 6: DULUX BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1400 M
Due to lightning in the vicinity of the course races six (6) and seven (7) were delayed and rescheduled to 9:00pm and 9:25pm respectively.
Prior to the running of this event the course received heavy rainfall and the track was inspected and downgraded to a Heavy 10 at 8:40pm.
UNDER THE CAP – When the stable was unable to attach the nasal strip to the gelding, stewards permitted UNDER THE CAP to race without that piece of gear. Began awkwardly.
KATDEEL – Began awkwardly. From the 100m onwards rider C. Collis lost the use of his off-side reign.
SIZZLING GAL – Rider C. Graham reported the mare didn’t handle the rain affected track.
PIREONTI – Raced wide throughout.
RETAINER – Raced wide throughout.
TILL DUSK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 7: WHATEVER IT TAKES BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1800M
CENTRAL PARK - Raced three wide throughout without cover. Rider C. Graham reported the gelding didn’t handle the rain affected conditions.
SPOOKY SPIRIT – Commenced to weaken from the 700m and finished a distant last, a post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. The gelding was noted to have lost its near fore plate. Apprentice O. Webb reported that in her opinion the gelding did not handle the rain affected track conditions. Trainer K. Kemp reported it was his intention to drop the gelding back to country class. K. Kemp was advised to report back to stewards on how the gelding comes through the run.
RING BEARER – From the 700m was obliged to steady and lost ground from the heels of the weakening SPOOKY SPIRIT and was unable to improve until approaching the 500m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from entering the home straight until approaching the 200m.
PULVERISER - Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
CANTARITO – Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
