SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Toowoomba Turf Club – 18 July 2026 – Race 6
Stewards concluded an inquiry from Race 6 at Toowoomba on the 18th July 2026 regarding D. McGillivray’s use of the whip. Rider D. McGillivray pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m and 9 occasions in totality. Rider D. McGillivray was subsequently fined $500. Rider D. McGillivray was also reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
GENERAL
EVERYREADY BUNNY was declared a late scratching at 11:00am after sustaining minor injuries in a stable mishap prior to coming to the races. The training partnership of A. & D. Simpson was advised EVERYREADY BUNNY will need to obtain a veterinarian certificate prior to racing again.
Stewards acceded to a late gear request from the training partnership of B. Lockwood & E. Vincent to add a tongue tie to the approved gear of TASMAN BAY, which had recently trialed with a tongue tie after resuming from a long break since August 2025. The training partnership of B. Lockwood & E. Vincent was fined $300 pursuant to AR106(2).
Trainer M. Hoysted was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late rider declaration of A. Butler on CANTANKEROUS in Race 3.
RACE 1 - BROTHERS RUGBY SC COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
BARTLE FRERE – Laid out over the concluding stages.
SOLVENT – Shifted in on jumping and bumped with ZOUS A CHANCE. Rider M. Rodd reported his mount raced very green throughout and would derive benefit from the experience.
TERRAX – Rider J. Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip above shoulder height.
YO LEV – Bumped at the start. Commenced to weaken in the early part of the home straight. Trainer P. Butterworth was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its performance.
ZOUS A CHANCE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped YO LEV. Laid in for the majority of the event and in the home straight, obliged to stop and straighten on several occasions.
RACE 2 - VANTAGE BUILDING GROUP FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
MAGNETIC ISLAND – Inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
BRAVE FACE – Began awkwardly. Near the 300m, momentarily raced in restricted room between QUEEN OF THE MOON and MAGNETIC ISLAND, which laid out before being corrected.
EPIC ROSE – Approaching the 600m, became awkward for several strides when over-racing to the inside of TASMAN BAY.
QUEEN OF THE MOON – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m, bumped and carried out when BRAVE FACE steadied from heels and shifted out.
RACE 3 -SOLAR UNITED ENERGY SOLUTIONS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M
ABRAHAM – Slow to begin. Apprentice K. Lenton reported her mount was inclined to hang throughout and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. The stable representative for Trainer N. Keal was advised the gelding would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
CANTANKEROUS – Steadied approaching the 300m when RALOS STAR shifted out. When asked to comment on the performance, rider A. Butler could offer no explanation, however advised connections that the addition of blinkers may assist the gelding on its next start.
MISS FUNNY HONEY – Began awkwardly and bumped JARDIN DE LYS.
RALOS STAR – Over-raced in the early stages. Held up in the early part of the home straight until approaching the 250m. Cast its
FORTYSECONDSTREET – Began awkwardly and bumped between runners. Held up in the early part of the home straight until approaching the 200m.
KATIE AINE – Raced three-wide without cover in the early stages.
HANNABANA – Raced three-wide throughout.
JARDIN DE LYS – Shifted out on jumping and bumped MISS FUNNY HONEY.
APPARATE – Slow to begin.
RACE 4 - ADVANCED AQUARIUM TECHNOLOGIES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 2240 M
TRUMP CARD (NZ) - Hampered shortly after the start when OLD FAITHFUL shifted out on jumping. Hampered and carried out near the 250m when MISS DYNAMO was carried out by BIG TICKET BOY.
BIG TICKET BOY – Held up in the early part of the home straight.
SUNNY DISPOSITION – Began awkwardly.
OLD FAITHFUL (NZ) – Laid out over concluding stages.
MAKAMAE (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Held up in the early part of the home straight before being awkwardly placed on the heels of MISS DYNAMO which lost its rightful running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. When questioned regarding tactics adopted, apprentice C. Sutherland advised he was mindful of the quick back-up after seven days, the step up in distance from 1600m to 2240m and the mare’s tendency to over-race. He also noted that the mare raced dour and approaching the 250m, was inconvenienced and obliged to steady to avoid the heels of MISS DYNAMO. Stewards, whilst noting the explanation tendered, reminded apprentice Sutherland of his obligation to continue pressuring his mount to the end of the race.
MISS DYNAMO – After being caught wide in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward to outside the leader near the 1500m. Inconvenienced and lost its rightful running near the 250m when BIG TICKET BOY (T. Brooker) shifted out under riding. T. Brooker, rider of BIG TICKET BOY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a), in that near the 250m, she permitted her mount to shift out under riding when insufficiently clear of MISS DYNAMO, inconveniencing that runner and resulting in the mare losing its rightful running. T. Brooker’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of eleven (11) days, commencing midnight 19/07/2026 and concluding midnight 30/07/2026.
MONTEVECCHIO – Laid out near the 250m.
WOODLAND WONDER – Reared as the start was effected and hampered shortly after the start.
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Hampered shortly after the start.
BIG HITTER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MAKAMAE.
RACE 5 - FACTORY DIRECT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 M
AIR WE GO – Commenced to over-race passing the 800m and shifted out.
THANKYOU HENRY – Shifted out on jumping and bumped KELANOA.
CHERRABAH – Carried wider leaving the 800m when AIR WE GO shifted out while over-racing. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
KELANOA – Bumped at the start. Raced in restricted room passing the 900m.
RACE 6 - SPORTS HUB SUNSHINE COAST CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1600 M
DRACENA – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Continued to lay out over the concluding stages, obliging its rider to stop and straighten.
ICONIFY – Slow to begin and bumped shortly after the start.
AND I AM – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Raced three-wide without cover for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
BERTUS – Shifted out on jumping on bumped CLIVE’S GLORY. Carried wider near the 200m when DRACENA (Apprentice R. Thorburn) shifted out. Apprentice R. Thorburn was advised to exercise greater care.
CLIVE'S GLORY – Bumped at the start. Laid out over the final 200m.
JAM PACKED – Shifted in on jumping and bumped ICONIFY. Near the 200m, steadied when AND I AM shifted in under riding and BERTUS shifted away from DRACENA.
PLANNED ENCOUNTER (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
RACE 7 - MAZDA SUNSHINE COAST BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400 M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately four minutes. After undergoing a veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers, STATE A FACT was found to have a laceration on the near fore and declared a late scratching at 4:53pm. Trainer T. Hurley was advised the gelding will need to obtain a veterinarian certificate prior to racing again.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on STATE A FACT to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st – STATE A FACT – 1c win, 2c place.
2nd - SUPAIRO – 2c place.
3rd – PRIDE OF SAVABELLA – 2c place.
JUNGLE FEVER – Bumped on jumping. Near the 1200m, raced ungenerously when attempting to restrain.
NINJASK – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. Near the 1200m, racing in restricted room to the inside of KAFFIR LILY which was racing ungenerously. Near the 300m, momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of BADDA BOOM BABY which shifted in.
ENCOURAGED – Raced wide throughout. Over-raced early, near the 1000m when the speed slackened, improved onto heels and shifted very wide and raced wide for the remainder. Trainer D. Hansen was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its racing manners.
WHATA SORT – Bumped shortly after the start, became unbalanced and lost ground. Rider dropped his whip near the 100m.
KAFFIR LILY – Bumped with VREDEFORT shortly after jumping and became unbalanced. Commenced to over-race, proving very difficult to settle and raced ungenerously. Approaching the 1200m, awkwardly placed on the heels of BETTER YET (A. Allen) which shifted in. Rider A. Allen was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide throughout. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.
VREDEFORT (NZ) – Severely buffeted between runners and lost ground when NINJASK was bumped and shifted away from SUPAIRO. Obliged to steady from heels near the 1200m. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
PRIDE OF SAVABELLA – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room to the inside of NINJASK near the 1200m, which was placed in restricted room by KAFFIR LILY which shifted in when racing ungenerously.
REDCLOUD – Slow to begin.
SUPAIRO – Shifted out on jumping and bumped NINJASK. Leaving the 1200m, improved onto heels and was steadied. The stable representative for A. & R. Archibald was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its pre-race manners.
BADDA BOOM BABY – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in near the 300m. Trainer R. Beaton reported she had been satisfied with how the horse has been working and advised it had been luckless in previous starts. Stewards noted the comments.
