GENERAL
 
As jockey C. Meehan was indisposed, he was replaced by apprentice R. Thorburn as no senior riders were available.
 
Trainer T. Thomas was fined $200 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor EAGLES BEWARE by the prescribed time.
 
 
 
Race 1. PFD MAIDEN HANDICAP         1000 Metres

MAGIC INVADER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment, apprentice B. Youngberry reported that the gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a cardiac arrythmia and a swab sample was taken. Trainer C. Anderson was advised that he would be required to fulfill the Racing Australia Code of Practice for cardiac arrythmia prior to MAGIC INVADER resuming racing.           
 
FAWUNDERPAR – Bumped on jumping. Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until the 300m.  
 
SAVASTEEL (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
MAJESTIC MORN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SNITZSTREAM – Improved onto heels near the 700m when SUBPOENA COLADA steadied the pace. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn for a short distance.


RACE 2. MASTERFOODS CLASS 2 HANDICAP       1000 Metres
 
On arrival at the barriers, EAGLES BEWARE underwent a veterinary examination at the request of its rider and was found to be lame in the right foreleg. EAGLES BEWARE was declared a late scratching at 1.04pm with the following deductions applicable:
1st OOHLALOUVRE 0c win, 1c win
2nd DON’TCHA LUV’ER 1c place
 
Trainer T. Thomas was advised that EAGLES BEWARE will require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
DON'TCHA LUV'ER -  Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Laid in pressure in the home straight.
 
MERCATELLO – Began awkwardly and bumped DON’TCHA LUV’ER.
 


RACE 3. PRIMO CLASS 4 HANDICAP  1600 Metres
 
SENESCHAL (IRE) – Began awkwardly.
 
MOSTRO – Change of tactics – to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Failed to muster speed in the early stages despite being ridden aggressively and settled towards the rear of the field. Laid in throughout. Apprentice J. McMurray reported failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the event and weakened in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Peoples advised he will have his stable veterinarian examine the gelding and report back to Stewards on any significant findings.  
 


RACE 4. PFD SEAFOOD BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP          1800 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes when CIGAR MAN required farrier attention on arrival at the barriers.
 
WHATJEUDOIN' – Steadied from heels near the 1600m, then over raced until approaching the 1400m.
 
MAKAMAE (NZ) – Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn and in the home straight.
 
LORD PROTECTOR (NZ) – Underwent a pre race veterinary inspection after racing at Doomben on the 5th of August. Slow to begin.      
 
ROCKED – Began awkwardly.


RACE 5. INGHAM'S QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP   1200 Metres
 
EDDINGTON – Apprentice B. Osmond reported his mount was disappointing and advised connections that the gelding may benefit from the addition of blinkers as he was obliged to significantly pressure the gelding in the early stages to take up a forward position. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative N. Boyle reported that the stable will have veterinary tests performed on the gelding in the coming days and will experiment with the use of blinkers at trackwork.
 
SKY JEST – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ENUFF TORQUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment, jockey T. Marshall reported that the gelding raced extremely greenly throughout, however was doing its best work over the concluding stages, and would derive benefit from the race experience and a step up in distance.
 
RADOMIR (NZ) – Over raced in the middle stages.
 
SUMMER SENSATION – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

EMBER ROYALE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey M. Rodd reported that his mount raced greenly and would derive benefit from the race experience.
 
SOVEREIGN STYLE – Change of tactics - to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Obliged to stop riding near the 100m when placed in restricted room between RADOMIR and SUMMER SENSATION, which shifted out.


RACE 6.  MCCAIN OPEN HANDICAP   1000 Metres
 
MAXIMUM OUTPUT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
THELWELL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KRAKARIB – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
STATE IN TEXAS – Began awkwardly.


RACE 7.   FARM FRITES CLASS 1 HANDICAP                 1400 Metres
 
COMIN'HOMETOYOU – Near the 1200m, improved into restricted room to the inside of CANTARITO when that runner was shifting in, and as a result had to be restrained and lost ground. During this incident, COMIN’HOMETOYOU shifted in, tightening the running of IN SOCIETY.
 
ADRANOS – Over raced in the early stages.
 
EL CENTRO - Jockey B. Thompson reported that it was not his intention to lead, but to settle in a forward position, however when caught wide in the early stages he allowed his mount to stride forward to the lead.
 
LOVE TO TORQUE – Began awkwardly.
 
LET'SGO HUGO – Began awkwardly.
 
IN SOCIETY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Tightened for room near the 1200m and was steadied when COMIN’HOMETOYOU shifted in.
 
HEROIC DELANEYS – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 


RACE 8.   PFD BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP     1200 Metres
 
YES DONALD YES – Laid out under pressure from the 400m causing its rider to stop riding and straighten near the 200m, and then continued to lay out for the remainder.         

PIERANT - Began awkwardly and lost ground.           
 
CAPITAL CEE – Near the 250m, raced in restricted room between LIMERO which shifted in and PAPER COWBOY which shifted out and was obliged to alter course.      
 
KELANOA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
INTRECCIATO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn and in the home straight.
