GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 3. D. Peisley +0.5kg
 
Race 5. Trainer J. Healy was fined $200 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor MAD ANA by the prescribed time.
 
Race 7. Trainer S. Deacon was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider.
 
 
 
Race 1 - COOLUM SURF CLUB MAIDEN PLATE                  2200 Metres
 
ACTS ALONE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages when the pace of the race slackened.  
 
MISSILE AWAY – Slow to begin. Near the 2100m, momentarily steadied after improving to the inside of HIGHLAND KITTY, before continuing to race keenly in the early stages. Near the 1900m, momentarily raced in restricted room. Raced wide from the 800m. Laid in under pressure approaching the home turn.
 
DISGRUNTLED – Raced wide until the 1700m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
HIGHLAND KITTY – Raced wide until the 1300m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
MIZFAWAZ – Began awkwardly, before being bumped heavily by ACTS ALONE and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages.


Race 2 - COOLUM BEACH HOTEL QTIS THREE-& FOUR YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP    1400 Metres
 
ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn. Disappointed for a run near the 400m and obliged to shift in.
 
WANTED HILLBILLY – When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice A. McColm reported that the gelding was inclined to over race, and in his opinion, may not have run out the 1400m and would be suited to a drop back in distance. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and the gelding to be coughing. Trainer K. Clark-Peoples was advised that WANTED HILLBILLY will require a veterinary clearance inclusive of an endoscopic examination prior to racing or trialling again.
 
WEEKEND SPIRIT – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m, when racing keenly had to be steadied from the heels of FINANCIALLY FAMOUS. Laid in under pressure during the early stages of the home straight, and again in the concluding stages.  
 
WELCOME ADVICE – Near the 1100m, shifted in and away from SILVER SMASH. Laid in rounding the home turn. Leaving the 400m, brushed with SILVER SMASH. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
FINANCIALLY FAMOUS – Began awkwardly.
 
SILVER SMASH – Laid in rounding the home turn. Leaving the 400m, brushed with WELCOME ADVICE. When asked to comment, rider T. Brooker reported that in her opinion, SILVER SMASH does not run out a strong 1400m and would be better suited to shorter distances than that of today’s event.


Race 3 - SUNSHINE COAST SHADE SAILS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE       1400 Metres

BOUND FOR MOSCOW – Bumped at the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.  
 
ENUFF TORQUE – Shifted in momentarily near the 900m when racing greenly. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 350m. Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
HANG UP – Declared a late scratching at 1.15pm due to becoming fractious in the tieup stalls. Trainer L. White was advised that HANG UP will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
KAVA EXPRESS – Near the 150m, became unbalanced when bumped by VICTORIA (Apprentice R. Houston) which shifted out. Apprentice R. Houston was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.   
 
ONE MORE DRINK - Began awkwardly.
 
SPIRIT OF TORQUE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure approaching the 200m.
 
SYRINX – Bumped at the start. Near the 900m, momentarily raced in restricted room when ENUFF TORQUE shifted in when racing greenly. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 200m when VICTORIA shifted in.
 
TRADE BARBS – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
VICTORIA – Shifted out under riding near the 150m and bumped KAVA EXPRESS. Shifted out over the concluding stages.   


Race 4 - COOLUM AT THE BEACH OPEN HANDICAP          1000 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when WONDEREACH underwent farrier attention after casting a near fore plate enroute to the barriers.

CHAKRA BOY – When asked to comment, jockey J. Stanley reported that CHAKRA BOY travelled well, however when asked for an effort in the home straight, proved disappointing. He added that, in his opinion, the gelding may not have appreciated today’s racing surface. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer S. Livingstone will report back to Stewards in the coming days on the post race condition of the gelding.  
 
MAXIMUM OUTPUT – Apprentice S. Tierney reported that her mount was inclined to over race in the middle stages.
 
HEARTONI – Raced wide throughout.
 
STATE IN TEXAS – Began awkwardly.
 
WONDEREACH – Leaving the 800m, commenced to over race and had to be steadied from the heels of MAXIMUM OUTPUT when over racing near the 600m.
 
BRING ME KASH – Slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
JOY A PLENTY – Slow to begin.


Race 5 - MEND BUILDING CLASS 3 HANDICAP      1600 Metres
 
CASTELLO GRANDE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. Near the 1300m, inconvenienced by FIFTY CALIBRE which shifted out after being checked from heels.  
 
CARDIOLOGIST – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure approaching the 200m.
 
FIFTH FORCE – Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until the 300m.
 
FIFTY CALIBRE (NZ) – Near the 1300m, laid in and had to be checked from heels of FIFTH FORCE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 6 - PETER ANDREW R/E BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP          1200 Metres
 
CRESSBROOK – Slow to begin.

BIT OF GRUNT – Slow to begin.

CUESTA (NZ) – Tightened at the start. Rider R. Stewart reported his mount travelled well, however was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight and may be better suited to a step up in distance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
VIN SANTO (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200m. Apprentice M. Mankelow was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using her whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
ROYAL GLADIATOR – Bumped at the start.   

SIMPLY FUN – Bumped at the start. Became awkwardly placed at the heels of CUESTA rounding the home turn.

DOUBTWILLY – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Over raced during the early stages. Hung out near the 600m and became awkwardly placed at the heels of VIN SANTO. Hung out rounding the home turn. Apprentice S. Tierney reported her mount had a tendency to over race and hang out throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.


Race 7 - COOLUM MEN'S SHED RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP   1800 Metres
 
BIG BOY GEORGE – Began awkwardly. Obliged to alter course and shift in near the 400m in order to improve. Shifted out near the 200m, inconveniencing BOSSIRI.
 
DRAW ATTENTION – Shifted in under pressure approaching the 150m before being corrected by its rider. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
CLUBMAN (GB) – Near the 1300m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MAD ANA. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MAD ANA – Near the 1200m, was inconvenienced and had to be steadied from the heels of the riderless GLENRAY’S MATE. Near the 1000m, was inconvenienced and carried wider by SWEET PRETENDER, which shifted out to avoid the riderless horse. Raced wide from that point. From the 700m, was carried wider by the riderless horse. Rounding the home turn, was severely hampered and taken wider by the riderless horse. Near the 250m, had to be eased to avoid the heels of the riderless horse and, as a result, took no further competitive part in the event.

BOSSIRI – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Inconvenienced near the 200m by BIG BOY GEORGE.
 
GIDDY GAN'S JOY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SWEET PRETENDER – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Near the 1100m, had to be checked from the heels of the riderless horse. Carried wider from the 700m by the riderless horse. Checked near the 500m when tightened for room between MAD ANA and the riderless horse which shifted out.  
 
STORMSTOUT – Slow to begin.
 
GLENRAY'S MATE –Shortly after the start, tightened for room between BOSSIRI, which shifted out after beginning awkwardly, and SWEET PRETENDER, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, and as a result blundered and dislodged apprentice O. Kendal. Apprentice O. Kendal was examined by QAS officials, including an assessment under the QLR Racing Concussion Protocol, and was cleared of concussion. Notwithstanding this, Stewards advised Apprentice Kendal that she would be required to provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.
