As App N Vuille reported an injury to her right knee and was unable to fulfil her engagements, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. App. Vuille was advised that a medical would be required prior to her next race riding engagements.
Race 1: Minerva Mine/ XXXX Gold Class B Handicap- 900 metres
EXPEL- App L Dodds was allowed to claim 2 kilograms of his 4 kilogram claim.
WAR DRAKE- Began a little awkwardly
KAYAN- Raced wide throughout.
GIVE IT BERRIES- Raced wide throughout.
VALHALLA MIST- Raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Beverley O’Keefe Memorial QTIS Maiden Plate- 900 metres
SPINY BURR- When Jockey S McGovern was to be overweight; he was replaced by Jockey S Galvin. Jockey McGovern was fined $100 under AR 120(b) and advised that further weight breaches would attract more severe penalties. Contact with another runner at the start. Near the 300 metres, when racing greenly for a short distance, shifted out and made contact with another runner.
BRADBURY’S BRANDY- Declared a late scratching at 1.20pm when trainer advised Stewards the mare was unable to be transported.
MOKKIE MAGIC- Blundered on jumping.
MISHANI TRADER- Began awkwardly and shifted in on another runner.
BOOMTOWN GIRL- Jockey A Lawrence made application to have the mare declared a non-runner. It was established that Jockey Lawrence discarded a towel from the barriers prior to the start, had sufficient time to anticipate the start however began awkwardly with the field. Accordingly the mare was declared a runner.
SAVANNAHZEES- Raced wide throughout. Bumped near the 300 metres.
SISTER KATIE- Slow into stride. Trainer notified that the mare was distressed immediately following the race, however a subsequent veterinary inspection did not reveal any abnormalities.
Race 3: Rolleston Coal/ Travers Transport BM 55 Handicap - 1400 metres
MISS SNIPSTER- Owing to a miscommunication with Jockey S McGovern for his engagement on this runner, Jockey J Lait was substituted. Blundered on jumping. Jockey J Lait was fined $100 for use of his whip more than 5 times forehand prior to the 100 metres.
LA HDOOD- App L Dodds fined $100 for use of his whip on more than 5 time forehand prior to the 100 metres.
NINE TIMES- Slow into stride.
GREAT DANSAAR- Explanation regarding late rider declaration was accepted. Trainer advised Stewards prior to Race 1 that he would instruct to have the mare ridden forward. Ridden accordingly however raced three wide for the majority of the race. Jockey Sheargold was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip.
Race 4: Michael O’Donohoe Memorial Class 2 Handicap- 1100 metres
HAYYLER’S DRAGON- Slow into stride
FISCAL CLIFF- Slow into stride.
KOORAGAN LANE- Rider reported mare was inclined to hang out in the straight.
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 900 metres. While acknowledging the incident was significant, due to insufficient patrol footage and evidence, Stewards established that DOUBLE RICH shifted in and tightened FADED in onto MOSCOW which was checked. As Stewards could not establish if KOORAGAN LANE had contributed to this incident, Stewards could not be satisfied to issue a careless riding charge, however Jockey Abe was advised to afford runners to his inside more racing room.
Race 5: Dooley’s Tavern & Motel Bracelet Open Handicap- 1100 metres
FLIGHT COMMAND- Slow to begin and raced wide throughout.
INDY MISS- Stewards inquired into the performance of the mare and riding of Jockey D Evans. Rider stated the mare raced very poorly after racing wide early in an attempt to hold a forward position. Further stated that after obtaining a position three wide behind the leaders in the middle stages, from near the 400 metres failed to stretch out and did not feel comfortable in its action. Jockey Evans was admonished for failing to report his concerns to Stewards as soon as practicable and Stewards would follow up with Trainer G Bell.
