The following runners were declared late scratchings at 8:07am due to no riders being available
Race 3 - TAMIEKA WARRIOR
Race 3 - DANCING TROFFEA
Race 4 – STAR CHANCE
Stewards permitted trainer G Rafter to scratch HIT ‘EM UP from race 3 on Friday the 20th of March with no rider available due to the time that he would be required to leave his stables to travel to the meeting, being earlier than scratching time.
RACE 1: HOWARD FAMILY RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 900M
REBELIOUS RED – Bounded at the start. When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance apprentice A Meisnner stated that following a disappointing performance at Barcaldine on the 7th of March, the stable were of the view that the gelding may have gotten it’s tongue over the bit and subsequently added a tongue tie for today’s start, which in their opinion proved beneficial. She further added that the drop in class and the addition of an apprentice proved beneficial in REBELIOUS RED’s chances.
LADY CONSORT – Inclined to lay inwards rounding the home turn. Laid inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
BONTOBEWILD – Shifted inwards on jumping bumping PULL THE CATCH. Apprentice T Orr was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for his use of the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m. In determining penalty stewards were mindful that Mr Orr had no prior breaches in relation to this rule.
PULL THE CATCH – Bumped on jumping by BONTOBEWILD and carried inwards hampering and tightening WHISKEY DANCER, shortly after bumped with IMPERIONESSS.
WHISKEY DANCER – Hampered and tightened on jumping when PULL THE CATCH was carried inwards by BONTOBEWILD and slow to begin as a result. Inclined to lay inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
TOO MANY KISSES – Began awkwardly and slow to begin as a result.
IMPERIONESS – Bumped with PULL THE CATCH shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the right fore and was treated accordingly. Trainer R Williams advised that it would be the stables intention to retire the mare. Nonetheless Mr Williams was advised that IMPERIONESS would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing or trialing again.
RACE 2: DOOLEY'S TAVERN & MOTEL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 900M
KENNY THE BAKER – Laid inwards under pressure over the final 200m.
TIGER JIM – Shifted inwards on jumping bumping LOADED WEAPON and slow to begin as a result. Resented the kickback noticeably during the middle stages and climbed in its action for some distance as a result. Trainer K Miller was advised that a warning would be placed on TIGER JIM’s record due to its racing manners.
LOADED WEAPON - Bumped on jumping by TIGER JIM. Slow into stride.
BELLAH'S HOPE – Fractious prior to the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Trainer D Rideout was advised that a warning would be placed on BELLAH’S HOPE’s record due to its barrier manners.
MISS IMPRESSIVE - Raced wide throughout. Shifted wider upon entering the home straight carrying SAINT ANNS wider on the track.
SAINT ANNS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Carried wider on the track upon entering the home straight by MISS IMPRESSIVE.
TAMIEKA WARRIOR – Declared a late scratching at 8:07am due to no rider being available.
ASK ME HARRY – Raced wide throughout.
BONDONGA BELLE – Raced wide throughout.
DANCING TROFFEA – Declared a late scratching at 8:07am due to no rider being available.
Following the running of this race stewards questioned the starter in relation to ASK ME HARRY not being loaded in barrier order. It was explained after some confusion regarding the barrier position of ASK ME HARRY they reviewed official paperwork and loaded ASK ME HARRY into the correct barrier position. Stewards reminded the starter that all runners are required to be loaded in barrier order.
RACE 3: WHITEHEAD PASTORAL CO BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1400M
NOTACLUEHOWORWHO –Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages and had to be restrained from heels on a number of occasions.
GIGI FILLE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
SAINT MARTIN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
JETPACK VERDI (NZ) – Slow to begin. Laid inwards across the heels of MASALI RAFFA near the 100m and had to be restrained.
MASALI RAFFA – Bounded on jumping and slow to begin as a result. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in particular electing to improve wide during the early and middle stages after beginning poorly, jockey N Summers stated that it was her instructions to be positive and find a forward position, after beginning poorly Ms Summers was mindful of the geldings tendency to race fiercely with cover and such elected to allow her mount to travel where comfortable. Stewards noted the comment.
PAMPUNI – Blundered on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
SILENT ANGEL – Blundered on jumping. Inclined to lay inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
STAR CHANCE – Declared a late scratching at 8:07am due to no rider being available.
RACE 4: PAUL TAYLOR MEMORIAL/GLENCORE ROLLESTON COAL CLASS B HANDICAP 1100M
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of second placed KABUKICHO to view the available replays to ascertain if there were grounds for a protest against first placed QUARRY MAN over the final 200m. After doing so, the connections elected not to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.
QUARRY MAN (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid outwards when under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice A Meisnner was reminded of her obligations to ensure she stop and straighten her mount when shifting ground under pressure.
BUSH BATTLE – Slow into stride.
TWIN ISLAND (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay inwards over the concluding stages.
KABUKICHO - Over raced in the early stages. Laid inwards when under pressure over the final 100m.
RACE 5: KEVIN WOOLCOCK MEMORIAL BRACELET OPEN HANDICAP 1100M
JUST SUPER – Raced wide in the early stages.
MR TANGLES – Raced keenly in the early stages.
TAVANASIA (NZ) – Raced wide in the middle stages.
INVICTUS LAD – When questioned in relation to the performance jockey W Satherley stated that the gelding had travelled well in the early stages however the heavier track conditions may have proved detrimental over the concluding stages. Jockey W Satherley was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for his use of the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of mild dehydration.
KEYBOARD - Kicked out simultaneously as the start was effected and was very slow to begin as a result. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey N Summers was reprimanded under AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out fully to the finish. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful that Ms Summers actions had no effect on the finishing positions and her record which had no prior breaches under this rule. Trainer D Johnston was advised that a warning would be placed on the mares record for being slow to begin.
