Race 1: M J CLEANERS/STANTHORPE PAINTING SERVICES MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
1st – CASSE BLEU 2nd – CLOSE ENOUGH 3rd – ROCK ON IVY 4th – LEILA’S CALL

BY EMTEEARE – Examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the race as the gelding was having its first race start in 16 months, and cleared to take its place in the field.

MT STURT – Broke through the barriers prior to the start being effected and galloped a short distance before being restrained. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Tightened for room at the start.

MISS SERENA – Jumped out at the start and lost ground.

CASSE BLEU – Tightened for room at the start.

LEILA’S CALL – Checked approaching the 600m when tightened for room to the inside of CASSE BLEU (M. O’Brien), which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Raced ungenerously with its head in the air for a short distance following this incident. At a subsequent inquiry jockey O’Brien was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) and was suspended for a period covered by 8 days, to commence midnight 17 October 2015 and expire midnight 25 October 2015.

JUE JUE ANGEL – Steadied and shifted wider to obtain clear running near the 150m. Jockey D. McIntosh reported that the mare raced greenly throughout the event.

Race 2: K & A BUILDING QTIS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – TYCOON ACE 2nd – FINNOMONY 3rd – WHATEVER MISS 4th – DEEP CROSSING

The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the film of the start. After viewing the footage it was established that the front gates of RHODRY opened prior to the start being effected. Stewards did not deem RHODRY had gained an unfair advantage as the gelding was expected to race in a forward position and gave ground in the home straight to finish 8th. As Stewards were satisfied there would have been no change to the placings had RHODRY’s gate opened with the rest of the field, correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.

BEYOND THE STORM, which was kicked in the mounting yard by another runner in the mounting yard, was declared a late scratching by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 2.22pm. All monies invested on BEYOND THE STORM were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:

3 cents in the dollar for the winner #1
4 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #1
5 cents in the dollar for second place #3
5 cents in the dollar for third place #5

SPs are subject to deductions.

VILLAINOUS LASS – As there were no riders available at the weight, Stewards permitted C. Maund to ride the mare at 2.5kg over the handicapped weight. Slow to begin.

DEEP CROSSING - Tightened for room at the start.

WHATEVER MISS - Tightened for room at the start.

FINNOMONY – Inclined to hang in in the early stages.

Race 3: COUNTRY CLUB HOTEL/LIQUOR LEGENDS BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1200M

COVER UP – Bumped another runner shortly after the start.

REAL TRICKY – Bumped another runner shortly after the start.

WYLIE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

STEEL TO THE HEEL – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey C. Maund reported the gelding was not suited to the fast tempo of today’s event and was making a respiratory noise over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Overall indicated he would give consideration to the gelding’s racing future.

Race 4: CENTRAL MOTORS HOLDEN STANTHORPE CUP OPEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – WRITTENINTHERAIN 2nd – BARONESS ZEENA 3rd – GOING GOING GONE 4th – MR THATCHER

BILLY AUCASH – Bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, trainer S. Iverson reported that the gelding was having its first start after a spell and does not race well first up. He also reported the gelding is better suited to races over a longer distance than today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.

GOING GOING GONE – Bumped at the start. Returned to the enclosure with blood in its mouth. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a superficial laceration to its tongue.

ACHIEVEMENTS – Steadied from heels near the 200m. Held up for clear running until the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.

VICE OR VIRTUE –When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice E. Ljung reported that she raced in restricted room in the middle stages and the gelding did not respond to her riding in the home straight. She added that in her opinion the gelding would have finished the race off better if she had been able to allow him to stride forward in the middle stages of the event. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 5: STANTHORPE RSL/CRISPS COACHES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1400M
1st – DOING OUR BEST 2nd – QUELLE BEAUTE 3rd – BLACKMORE VALE 4th – HIP TO BE SQUARE

MEANJIN – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey F. Jervis reported that after beginning awkwardly and losing ground the gelding was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages, resulting in her being unable to obtain a leading position as anticipated. She added that the gelding was inclined to hang in throughout the event. Stewards noted the explanation.

ROMP IT IN – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey M. O’Brien reported the gelding pulled hard in the early stages, and in her opinion was not suited by today’s firm track. Stewards noted the explanation.
