GENERAL
HARBOUR TRICK and OH WHY were both scratched at 10:30am after stewards were contacted by trainer P Webster and were advised that he had encountered transport difficulties on route to the track. As Jockey S Sweedman was traveling with Mr Webster to the meeting he was therefore unable to attend and rider changes were made as per the steward’s summary.
Race1: IGA TAROOM QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200m
GREAT BRAVE- Slow to begin and consequently settled further back than anticipated. In the opinion of the rider the gelding did not handle the dirt racing surface.
VALAR DOHAERIS- Shifted out rounding the home turn forcing another runner wider on the track.
MARYLEE- Forced wider by another runner rounding the home turn.
MS SPICY- Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages without cover. Hung in in the home straight on 2 occasions causing the rider to stop riding and straighten.
Race 2: COUNTRYSIDE ELECTRICS CLASS B HANDICAP- 1000m
GRAND GIFT- The filly put her head down just as the stalls opened dislodging the rider who was able to hold on to the horse which took no part in the race. This was bought to the attention of trainer C Smith.
RINGO’S MAGIC- Hung out in the early stages. Shifted out rounding the home turn.
MISS MAGNOLIA- Lost ground in the early stages when placed in restricted room.
SAM’S ALLYCAT- Raced greenly in the early stages and did not handle the reverse way of going.
SO STUNNING- Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
STRYKING PRINCESS- Was not comfortable with the track direction and changed legs on several occasions losing momentum.
WUNULLA LADY- Shifted wide rounding the home turn.
GLAMOURON- Shifted wide rounding the home turn.
SMARTY JACK- Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
After passing the winning post Jockey R Faehr was dislodged from STRYKING PRINCESS when shied by another horse. Jockey R Faehr did no sustain any injuries in the incident.
Race 3: COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER TAROOM PHARMACY OPEN HANDICAP- 1000m
RED DEVIL- Jumped inwards at the start. An inquiry was opened into reasons for RED DEVIL losing ground at the 850m. After taking evidence from Jockey’s L McCoy and H Phillips and viewing the patrol video stewards believed that there were contributing factors which did not allow them to attribute the blame to any one rider. The patrol video was not conclusive, however it appeared that VOLUM and ESSAKA moved out slightly and WALSHIE shifted inwards causing RED DEVIL to shift out onto the heels of NEW ALLIANCE and lost ground.
Race 4: PHIPPS FAMILY TRUST ANNIVERSARY CUP BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP- 1400m
There was a start delay when riders requested that the starting stalls be moved outwards closer to the outside rail as they were concerned that the barriers and tractor would be in a dangerous position on the pull up.
SIDINA- Slow to begin and raced well back in heavy dust.
JETINTOIT- Raced ungenerously in the kick back in a rearward position.
Race 5: COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER/LEICHHARDT HOTEL TAROOM CUP OPEN HANDICAP- 1400m
GALAPAGOS- Made a forward move from the 550m into a very wide position and raced wide rounding the home turn.
KING MAX- Slow to begin
GUD ONYA- Raced wide rounding the home turn.
BOILING- Raced greenly in the middle stages and eased off heels at the 550m.
